Itsalingthing, you are right. We were at one time where your friend is now. Maybe you will be the one who gives him the courage to leave. Good luck! (It feels so good to be able to say that again!)

Bill, I admire your strength (along with Barbara Anderson's and the Pandelo's). My blood boils as I read all this BS! I just realized how very much I hate the WTS for all the hurt that they have caused! I am so glad that I finally woke up. I hope that many others will as well! Keep up the good work!

What Am I thinking?????
by butalbee inwith all the recent hog wash going on in my life, i can't believe i am even entertaining this notion.
everybody on this board knows how i feel about this path, these beliefs, and here i am thinking, pondering wondering, maybe jehovahs witnesses do have something to offer me, maybe i need their 'close nit' love inside their congregations?
maybe i could see the truth, if i only opened my eyes to it and tried to accept it???

Butalbee, you said that "they all look so happy on the outside". That is so true. Just remember that on the inside they are miserable. I know. I studidly played the game for 23 years. What a waste!

LOL at "home but hiding". We used to write down "HBH" on our not at home slips when we knew someone was home but not answering. Hubby and I did the HBH thingy on the Saturday before the memorial. Figure they must have decided to invite us after not seeing us for a few years. Or maybe they have another reason? Who knows? Oh well, didn't even bother to turn off the TV. Figured maybe that way they would get the hint. Haven't seen them since.

Puff, doesn't your mother know that JW's are not supposed to watch Oprah? Yep, at a Circuit Assembly about 7 yrs. ago the CO said from the platform that we should not be watching her show because she lives an immoral life and is therefore a bad example. No kidding. By the way that particular CO was a real jerk!

Just one little comment...How many times have we all heard this illustration? If there was just a little poisen added to a glass of water would we drink it? If you don't agree with some of the WTS teachings are you still going to drink the water? Something to think about...

Self-love
by wonderwoman77 ini posted on the belief board last week when i started reading a book by thich nhat hanh.
i read the chapter on self-love and was deeply moved.
i know society, but especially the borg tells people to be selfless and do all these things for others and the borg, that we tend to feel awful about ourselves.

Wonderwoman, I've been thinking about this subject for the past few days. Seems like we have all observed a lack of love in the congregations along with much gossip. I do believe this is because we are not taught to love ourselves. We are constantly told we are not doing enough for Jehovah, we are sinners deserving of death, etc. It truly is hard to love others when we have no love for ourselves. Great topic.

My son contemplates suicide.
by dmouse inmy 14 year old son, benjamin, confided in me last night that he almost tried to commit suicide this week, he felt so low.. he has been brought up as a jw by his mum all his short life and until recently totally believed all the crap.
although he has not been baptised yet he expressed the desire to pioneer and go to bethel.. then, in the past few months, he suddenly woke up and smelt what he was shovelling.. my son is an extremely gregarious, likable boy with lots of friends in the congregation.
he is always invited to the get-togethers etc.

My heart goes out to you and your son. What the elders told your son just sickens me. If your son really wants to study with the elders and you agree with it maybe you should insist on sitting in on the study. That way you will know exactly what is going on. After all you are the head of the house and your son is a minor. Just something to consider...

Hubby just left for the Memorial. This is the first time I've missed it. Feels a bit strange. Guess brainwashing can be hard to get over. If I went I would feel like such a hypocrite, and we all know that there are already enough of those at the KH. Wonder if hubby will talk to anyone and where he will say that I am. Hmmm.
