  even when i was a devout witless, i always winced a bit when i heard or especially had to utter "jehovah".

  it's just one of those uncomfortable words to say like "colostomy", "vagina", or "erectile dysfunction"..

  LOL. Well, I'll use it under certain circumstances, but it's kind of a take it or leave it kind of thing. Knowing it's no longer obligatory to say it 15 times in a sentence makes it easier to pick and choose when it's a good time for me and when it's not.

  Do Jehovah's Witnesses Even Have A Child Abuse Policy?

  i know that sounds like a strange question.

  jehovah's witnesses have many procedures that are hidden from members and the public in a maze of letters and the elder's book with handwritten notes.

  they have also made many statements about their alleged child abuse policy, but these statements are not the actual policy.. most businesses have actual policies for issues like sexual harassment and reporting abuse.

  This actually makes me wonder, how far can they go before they commit perjury on this sort of issue? The policy posted on jw-media.org has plenty of truth to it, but there's a lot of the 'lie of omission' going on there. Hmm.

  i was just thinking of something i read recently, a thread about the district convention talk, that mentioned how 'apostates' are always picking at 'the organization'.

  i just had a thought about that.. pick up any copy of the watchtower or awake!

  or any other publication the watchtower society publishes, and more than likely, in every single one of them, there will be several statements made against all other christian religions, all religions in general, or the scientific community so far as it conflicts with jehovah's witnesses' doctrines.

  The thing that gets me with this response is the various links--the one that discusses the JW policy regarding child abuse.

  The example they give regarding a person who was guilty of child abuse in the past being appointed as an elder or servant, I guess:

  "In a few instances, individuals guilty of an act of child abuse have been appointed to positions within the congregation if their conduct has been otherwise exemplary for decades. All the factors are considered carefully. Suppose, for example, that a long time ago an 18-year-old male had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl who was a willing participant. Depending upon the U.S. jurisdiction where he lived when this happened, elders may have been required to report this as an incident of child abuse. Let us say that 20 years have passed. He has been living an exemplary life and he is respected. In such a case, the man could possibly be appointed to a responsible position within the congregation."

  "A few instances"? Would this be three or four, or three or four thousand? What do they consider "a few"? It's an unprovable statement for the audience, as we don't have any access to their files on these issues!

  Second, a teenager having sex with another willing teenager is the best example they can come up with?? That's a total red herring! The real issue is child molestation, which would involve something quite different from an 18-year-old doing it with a willing 15-year-old, which would be statutory rape, another matter altogether, even if the girl was willing. Maybe there's no legal distinction between the two, so I may be off-base here, I'm no legal expert.

  Even so, uggh...they really are on a different planet here. It's just hard to imagine that I was ever part of this kind of reasoning. They really need to get hit harder than this $28 mil, because they still don't have any sense.

  we are always urged to "make sure of all things", namely, that anything we preach or teach is verifiable and true.

  especially when we are referring to the bible.. at our convention, two things which came from the platform made me cringe, especially as one of the statements came from a regular and experienced convention speaker.

  first; "over a quarter of a million new brothers and sisters were baptized last year - doesn't this show love on jehovah's part that he is allowing time for such ones to get to know him".

  Unbelievable. This is a great point about Revelation 20:12. It doesn't say the 'scrolls' are new. It just says "scrolls were opened". The dead were judged according to what was written in the scrolls, which I would guess implies that these scrolls contain a record of the deeds of said individuals, not a bunch of new rules to obey. Fascinating...

  Pick up any copy of The Watchtower or Awake! or any other publication the Watchtower Society publishes, and more than likely, in every single one of them, there will be several statements made against all other Christian religions, all religions in general, or the scientific community so far as it conflicts with Jehovah's Witnesses' doctrines. They often quote from other religions' publications or scientific journals in the process. But the common theme is emphasizing their superiority over all other religions, contrasting themselves and their beliefs with the 'false' beliefs of everyone on the outside. The Russian government has recognized this as a recurring pattern and as part of the reason the Society's literature was labeled as 'extremist' in that country. Even if that label weren't deserved, at the very least, such literature would come across as anti-Christendom, anti-most-other-religions, and anti-science-so-far-as-it's-not-WTS-approved.

  So the question is, how is this not 'picking at' everybody else?

  The bottom line with this is, Jehovah's Witnesses just don't like it when they get a taste of their own medicine. They reveal their insecurities when they cry persecution if someone points out their very real faults, contradictions, falsehoods, abusive speech, and missteps. Rarely do they consider the possibility that constructive criticism might be worth listening to and acting on. It's easier to plug up the ears and pretend that the organization can do no wrong than it is to be willing to make meaningful adjustments that might actually help people and not merely adjustments that help minimize legal liability, give more power to the Governing Body (or at least make them seem all-important to the divine purpose), or create yet another conveniently non-specific timetable for when the end will arrive.

  An organization that claims its members are 'in the truth' ought to be a lot more open to facing all forms of truth, especially the uncomfortable ones, wouldn't you think?
