Well, blaming God is only relevant if you believe God is real. If you don't, then it's not.

As much as it's making me revert to old JW form, my belief on this is, if God is real, then God is not Superman. He's not going to swoop in and stop bad things from happening. If he was that kind of God, the Bible stories wouldn't even exist, because he would've stopped Adam and Eve from eating the fruit--or just executed them on the spot. Or let their kids be born perfect with a similar fruit-in-the-middle-don't-eat-it command laid on them. Or something else. Ultimately, these are man's problems and man has to solve them.

Whatever the case, I would find it difficult to comprehend a god of love who could watch things like this happening all over the Earth and not get involved. He'd have to have a hell of a lot of self-control, that's for sure. Either way, it's not his job to save us from ourselves; presumably the only job he took on was to save us from sin, and with that done, all the rest can be fixed in the end anyway. Maybe from Godview, all of this stuff is a drop in the ocean of time...just a thought.

for what ever reason i have been contacted by a number of jw's as to why i do not attend the meetings etc.

in the past i have blown it off by saying i am super busy, tired, sick etc.

i had the opportunity just last week when i ran into an elder and his wife at the grocery store to respond to their comment.

After A Day In Field Service, Did You Get Euphoric Or A Spiritual High?

i know this might sound silly but field service did provide a strange type of good feelings after i was done.

i called this the "halo-effect" because i felt so "righteous, obedient and good" for taking the weirdos or "the friends" in my station wagon.

vans and station wagon owners in the congregations often get used hard, pile up seven whacks and your off!

Way ahead of you, pal; I've had Netflix for awhile. I've upgraded since those days, and my movie collection is sufficient now that I have no great lack in entertainment even if I didn't have Netflix. I've definitely caught up on some episodes I missed, that's for sure. I was just reminiscing on the early post-high school days. I had a VCR and a 13" TV and like, 8 VHS movies that I watched over and over and over and over when I wasn't watching stuff I'd taped. But thanks for the advice.

Man Of Steel

coming out in june 2013.. while i have always been a bigger fan of batman ( martial arts infulence) there was always something special about superman.. my favorite superman storyline is kingdom come.. i was never a fan of the superman series with christopher reeves, superman returns was at best ok and while i liked smallville ( tv series) it was overlong and had some glaring faults.. this movie, however, is filling me full of hope :).

the first two are teasers, one with kevin costner voice over ( john kent), the other with russel crowe vo ( jor-el).

I'm looking forward to it. I'd prefer to reserve any judgment until after I've seen the film. I'm not too worried. Even 'Superman Returns' had its moments for me, though I didn't really like some things about it. I've read a few Superman comics, but none of the classics ones, I'm more of a Batman fan. I think my perception of Superman is shaped more by the old Superman films and the Superman Animated Series. I'm hoping for this genre to get beyond origin films and this excessive retelling/rebooting of characters that have been around for decades. Most moviegoers already know what they probably need to know about Superman, can't we just have a straight comic book story, bring in characters like Brainiac, Darkseid, maybe even Doomsday? But it's Superman, that's all I need to know.

Only thing I ever got was hungry and tired after the recruitment work. I wanted to order some KFC, pop in a VHS tape with the day's Saturday morning cartoons, and fall asleep halfway through it.

I was probably pretty scared the whole time and relieved when the day was done. Often we didn't see any actual people anyway, mostly just doors, so...I seriously doubted that I was doing anything more than my duty and figured my sins would probably counterbalance any hours I put in anyway.

So...now that I'm old enough to watch Saturday morning cartoons without having to tape them (can't figure out how to hook up the VCR to these new-fangled TVs anyhow), naturally there are no more good Saturday morning cartoons except on cable, which I of course, cannot afford. So glad I went out there and failed to save lives...

Speaking to some-one having a study using the book "Keep Yourself In God's Love"

help needed pretty please.. has any-one read this book "keep yourself in god's love" or got any critical notes on it?.

are there any big bloopers, contradictions, old light or anything i can discuss with him?.

he has almost finished it and so far thinks jehovah's witnesses are the only true religion and is now considering baptism.

Been awhile since I read that one. It's basically an additional rule book. There's only so much to be gleaned from it, but I suppose I could look into it, though this is kind of a tricky situation. The study is clearly nearing the 'refreezing' stage of thought reform....it could be tough to get through to this person.

i thought this quote on msn regarding all the interest in end of the world stuff because of today's date 12/12/12 and the 21st as the end of the mayan calendar.. "figuring out when it all comes crashing down isn't easy, though.

Aah...so they were preparing our brains for the big change 2 years ago....this was planned well in advance, then. Subtle bastards. Gotta love 'em. Good to know, by the way, that holy spirit operates only in upstate New York... That 'not previously understood' thing is really a big leap of logic. So they understand more about God & Jesus than anyone has ever understood before. This would have to include the writers of the Gospels, Paul, Peter, James, Jude, pretty much everybody short of Jesus himself. (Remember, we're ultimately talking about understanding a 2,000+ year-old text, so by definition 'not previously understood' has got to include 'not previously understood back then' as well, and from the NT itself we know they didn't fully understand everything either. I don't think that kind of statement has meaning otherwise, since it's got to be in the context of understanding the scriptures.) If that's not a special ability, I don't know what could be.

Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?

i was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.

all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.

my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

Well, I got so used to it that it became like a second skin for me. I still wear a shirt and tie everyday except Fridays (and sometimes I wear the tie on Fridays too) for work. I did like wearing the suits, maybe it made me feel like James Bond or something. I get so caught up in evening activities with helping prep dinner or the kids or groceries (or Internet, TV or Kindle reading, let's be honest) that I sometimes don't take off the dress clothes until well into the night.

I think when I see the JW men in their suits going into the KH, I feel like they look so burdened, so weighed down. (The giant briefcases do not help that perception.) I at least gave up the suit jacket at some point. That's about as relaxed as I can get.

Sometimes I miss it because maybe some part of me actually did feel like I looked good, as much as I tried to deny it for so long. Now, I don't know--gettin' old, and even my mom just compared me to a bearded U.S. President that's in a Spielberg movie right now. So...but that's another story. Otherwise, too much hand-shaking, trying to put on and feeling uncomfortable and utterly out of place and unable to measure up and hoping the prison guards don't decide to 'check in' on me today.

Certainly the recruitment work was problematic while wearing a suit--the extremes of weather, mainly the heat, oh, man...the jacket was such a liability. And the dress shoes. That's one thing I don't miss--my feet hurt terribly from dress shoes. I've still got to wear insoles all the time, even in my slippers from all those hours of streetwork and the like.
