  Have you ever noticed how similar the Society is to a Multi-Level Marketing Business?

  maybe this discussion has already taken place on this forum, or maybe some of you may scoff at this observation as just stating the obvious, but i think it may be worth while to post this for those of you who have yet to discover this paralell.

  i was involved in a mlm business in the insurance industry from 1993 - 2000. this life insurance agency was started in 1977 by just a few individuals and had grown by recruiting average working class people to become part-time sales agents and sold them the american dream.

  in just a few years time, this agency entered every state and grew into a sales force of roughly 200,000 people, part time and full timers, and by 1984 had become the #1 seller of life insurance in the country for approximately 15 years straight.

  I have. I currently have a client (that I helped purchase a life and health insurance policy) pressuring me to sign up for "Team National" or the "Nationals Company"

  It's CLEARLY a MLM program, the premise being pay a certain amount of money for a lifetime membership that gives you tax free savings, commission paid back to you savings, and membership benefits.

  For the life of me, I can't shake this woman. I almost want to tell her that I'll be sending some people over for bible study, it's right up her alley.

  Sick little boy!

  my 10 year old grandson is in the hospital with really high blood pressure.

  he has a urinary tract blockage which is affecting his kidney function,which resulted in the high blood pressure.

  his dad, soonernc7 and his mom are with him now.

  Poor kid!! I have a child that suffers from recurrent kidney stones, its so upsetting to be powerless to help take away the pain. Good thoughts for him.

  I want to also welcome you here, glad you joined! So you mentioned that you have 3 children, do you also have a partner to raise them with, or are you doing that alone? Do they ask about grandparents, cousins etc? That's the stage my kids are in, having had them, and now they are gone. It's a tough adjustment.

  Good for you living your authentic life. I could kick myself too.

  What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?

  i've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".

  the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

  I was counciled for watching 90210 and Melrose Place. Obviously it caused me to commit adultery and be disfellowshipped.

  Did you ever feel let down by the Bethel tour?

  reading jeff's thread about dress made me think of my one and only trip to bethel.. i can't remember if i was babtised at the time, but i went with a bus load of jws.. like someone said in the last thread, printing presses and empty rooms.

  i was very disapointed, however i don't think i had any pre-concieved notions of what it would be like.

  what i was diapointed in was so much of the "tour" was walking hallways looking at exhibits behind glass.

  Oh yeah, Ann, the didn't want us TOUCHING them, I just read the titles. Had I not had a squirming almost 2 year old in my arms, I'd have broken that rule for SURE. I was too curious, and then later labeled as being prideful, and a fault finder.

  Wouldve hurt, you know, if I hadn't FOUND fault. Just took a few years to act on it. I swear though, I never was very interested in following the Society after that, it was like seeing the man behind the curtain.

  Also, what do you mean by be allowed to own these? Did you see some off limits books?

  There were books about demons, occult, magic, not just a couple, but like a whole ROW...then another about catholics and a lot of their books. Just seemed contrary to what they tell us, to not put value in these writings, how misleading and wicked, yet they keep them for reference and for "enlightenment" when they see fit?

  It sounds like the only way to really see the place is have friends take you around.

  Thats just how we roll.

  i hate to exercise, therefore i haven't really ever done it, and stuck with it.

  i've had 6 children, and am quite sedentary.

  i get really bad migraines when my blood pressure rises, hence hating excercise.. .
