Office Space - My answer to all things JW

so..... i bumped into an old jw aquaintance who actually asked me if i enjoyed the assembly.. when i said i did not attend - they asked me why i missed it...... i said "well, i can't say i missed it, bob!

" (knowing he had seen the movie office space - when it was r rated!!).

he just looked at me dumbfounded and changed the subject......haha... i'm waiting for an old elder to come by and tell me that they miss me at the meeting........... i love their "fishing" approach!

New 3D smurf movie

there is a smurf movie coming in july.

http://www.smurfhappens.com/ they look like the avatar in miniature.. do you think this time around jws will be able to see it, or are they still considered demonised?

will there be a new generation of kids hearing about smurfs running out of kingdom halls, and will they be told about it by the overlapping generation?.

I live in the midwest United States.....the Smurf scare of the early 1980's was HUGE in my congregation.

People were freaking out - throwing them away, telling tall tales of evil things that happen to those in possesion of Smurfs, etc.

Our family scoffed at it since we had family in Europe, and they had been over there for years before the Smurfs invaded the USA.

The European continent was still standing, so we figured there was nothing to worry about.

I remember around the same time, the whole "backmasking" of records scare was going on, along with the extreme fear of any hard rock band.

My friend, who was like an older brother to me, bought Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil" around the height of the SMURF scare - I remember people freaking out. He ended up getting DF'ed a few weeks later for messing around with a girl at the hall. Of course, people blamed the CRUE (and probably the SMURFS for possessing him to SMURF around with that girl at the hall)........

Is it even possible to prove the existence of free will? Certainly it is assumed, but that hardly presents a 'proof'.

without "free will" , there can be no evil, if by evil we mean an entity has the ability to undertand what good is, and then freely chooses its opposite.. that so, then what?.

English Football Fans - your thoughts about the WC team?

i am really curious to get some thoughts from some of the england supporters...... the media over here in the usa has been pretty critical of the english squad, but it looks like the media in england is completely trashing the team.. it appears that much of the criticism is valid, but i also feel that england got shafted horribly by the blown call on the goal, and this is from a die-hard germany supporter.

i think germany was the better side yesterday, but who knows what would have happened if the score is 2-2 at halftime?

I think Germany was the better side yesterday, but who knows what would have happened if the score is 2-2 at halftime? The German side is young and if the game is 2-2, England may have taken a different tactical approach. Even Miroslav Klose came out today and said that England did not play as a team right from the start of the game. My family just says that was the soccer gods making amends for 1966.....

I have read a couple of articles that destroyed the team and didn't mention the goal that wasn't counted. The outrage was completely toward the team, not toward the idiot referee who missed that call.

That being said, they looked very average during the 3 group stage games - I was disappointed when I watched those matches since I expected more out of the English side.

Are you more angry about the goal that wasn't or the poor play overall? The defensive breakdowns yesterday had to have people pulling their hair out.......Do you think the coach will return?

Magazine Distribution--Your Area?

i found out that in a local congregation the service overseer has directed that magazines not be given by jws to:.

a) inactive jws.

b) return visits that are not coming to the meetings after 6 months.

Thats interesting Blondie.

I have heard similar things from my wife and a couple of people I still keep in touch with.

I think it is more of a congregation-level decision than a clear directive from the WTBS, but who knows since I am so out of the loop. (Thankfully!)

That is pretty comical since at my wife's congregation, they leave them at bus stops, with homeless people, and at laundrymats - basically any way to place the stuff without having to go door-to-door. Its all about the numbers.....not about the message.

Plus like UC said, you can download it off the internet.
