Being in my 20s I haven't really thought about that, but I think it wouldn't have been too far from me to do that - provided I have no kids.

When you fully believed it was the truth .
by Broken Promises indid you intend to leave your estate to the wts when you died?.
in several threads ive read, ppl make comments to the effect that theres no point leaving money to jws, because they would just leave the money to the wts anyway.. .
this is an assumption that i believe is a generalisation.. .

Deconversion
by goddidit inso i gather most of the people on this forum are ex-jws who have seen the error of their ways.. good for you guys.. would that put you in the unique position of knowing exactly how to make a current jw have doubts.. if so, how might that be?.
i've tried science, philosophy, even simple logic and pointing out the quote mining but to no avail.. i'm not even saying there isn't a god, just that their version of the story blatantly contradicts emperical science in so many ways..

Goddidit, welcome.
Unfortunately there is no surefire method to make a JW doubt, it's highly dependant on the person. I suggest you read the "Combatting Cult Mind Control" or "Releasing the Bonds" by Steven Hassan. You have to understand, the JWs are a cult, and it's a high control group with use of indoctrination. There's not much one can do against that, except a long road of very small steps and hope. There are some who are just perfect to be inside a cult, spiritual children, who couldn't live a meaningful life if noone is there to direct every step of theirs. If one is not ready to accept the truth about the "Truth" (TM) then no amount of logic and reasoning helps.
Is there a close family member inside? My condoleances then. Maybe if you give more details we can help you more. Stick around the forums, you can learn a lot about the cult here.

"Spiritual conversation"? What is that?
by teel inyou surely remember that there were numerous exhortations to talk about spiritual things, especially in kh.
i never quite understood what that's supposed to mean.
(which is probably why i talked so little in the kh i guess).

You surely remember that there were numerous exhortations to talk about spiritual things, especially in KH. I never quite understood what that's supposed to mean. (Which is probably why I talked so little in the KH I guess). Observing others it seemed the "spiritual conversation" basically revolved around praising the elder giving the talk, and repeating points of the speech.
Because "individual thinking" is strongly discouraged, I fail to see how can people have a truly spiritual discussion. It may be my fault, but I see nothing spiritual in repeating one more time what has been said.
To be fair there was one elder in my cong who I felt knew what spiritual discussion meant. When he was in a group, he actually made us think. He was quite manipulative though, he had a knack for directing our thoughts to society approved thinking only. Still, with him at least I felt almost free to think. I feel that without freedom of thinking there can be no true spirituality.
So what is your experience? Have you ever had a spiritual conversation with a JW? Care to explain to me what they actually mean by that?

I think the answer to the officials is that they provide free education to anyone.
But true, as you said, it's just like any other company.

Yeabook 2010 cover up -Rutherford's false prophecy that Armagedon was coming in 1925....half the Publishers leave the truth!
by Witness 007 inthis years yearbook covers "albainia" as i read these experiences i get to around 1920-25 and i notice that 3 or 4 healthy congregations turn into just 13-14 publishers by 1926 after "a time of trouble.
" although not mentioned this "trouble" was rutherford's "millions now living will never die" campaign with the watchtower saying armagedon was coming in 1925. most european congregations by 1926 lost whole congregations with only 3-10 "faithful " remaining {e.g poland, romania yearbook experiences} notice how the graph starts from the 1940's to avoid and cover up showing the flat lined publisher figures after 1925.....{notice also dips after 1975}.
however, check out the 2006 yearbook page 80. romania graph, and you see a flat lined publisher figure at 1926. the witnesses had to start from scratch.

I'm not sure they had such numbers George. The organization didn't put much weight on the numbers until about the 50s I think. Partakers specially didn't matter, because virtually every JW was partaking back then.

The JW's are coming back this Saturday, asking for your opinions and help...
by esw1966 inhi, i had a great conversation with an elder and his wife.
i am born again and the question i asked them was what scripture they hold on to on the day of armageddon when god looks at them and tries to determine whether or not he will let them into the paradise earth or not.
he never heard that question and had no reply... he was going to do some research on it for me... .

If you wish to reason with the JWs, your primary resource should be "Reasoning from the Scriptures" (thanks to yknot for the links she posted a couple of days ago in this thread - check there for other downloadable resources). JWs will refer to this book as primary resource when any question arises that they can't answer by themselves. Your JWs will surely discuss something along these lines.
Here's what the Reasoning book says on John 6:53, 54 :
Does John 6:58,54 indicate that only those who do partake will gain everlasting life?
John 6:53, 54: "Jesus said to them: 'Most truly I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves. He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I shall resurrect him at the last day!"
This eating and drinking would obviously have to be done figuratively; otherwise the one doing it would be violating God's law. (Gen. 9:4; Acts 15:28,29) However, it should be noted that Jesus' statement at John 6:53, 54 was not made in connection with the inauguration of the Lord's Evening Meal. None who heard him had any idea of a celebration with bread and wine used to represent Christ's flesh and blood. That arrangement was not introduced until about a year later, and the apostle John's report about the Lord's Evening Meal does not begin until more than seven chapters later on (in John 14) in the Gospel bearing his name.
How, then, can a person "eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood" in a figurative way if not by partaking of the bread and the wine at the Memorial? Notice that Jesus said that those thus eating and drinking would have "everlasting life!' Earlier, in verse 40, when explaining what people must do to have everlasting life, what did he say was the will of his Father? That "everyone that beholds the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life." Reasonably, then, 'eating his flesh and drinking his blood' in a figurative sense is done by exercising faith in the redeeming power of Jesus' flesh and blood laid down in sacrifice. This exercising of faith is required of all who will gain the fullness of life, whether in the heavens with Christ or in the earthly Paradise.

I want an excel spread sheet of the location of each member? Lady Lee Help.
by Caligula1 inlady lee,.
i'm impressed witht the map that you posted 5 years ago with the location of each member.. can you provide an updated sheet?.
with the locations, i will them pm each person for their email, and compile them in an excel spread sheet.. what i want to do is get the email of each person, then when i'm in that a certain part of the country, i will send an email to those in that area, as i love "our" conversations.

Lady Lee (or more precisely whoever endeavours to do this): nowadays it can be done with Google Maps, it would give a nice framework for such a project. Then you wouldn't have to worry with enlarging and such . Your main problem would be randomly dropping the members in their area, because Google Maps is just way too precise.

I finally did it
by doublelife ini told my mom that i'm not going back to the meetings.
i wasn't planning on telling her that but i've been going through some hard times with my husband and just got fed up with her hounding me.
so she asked if i'll still consider going back to the meetings and i just flat out told her no and that it wasn't up for discussion.

Well done. Watch out for the official hounders' visit though, I have a feeling it will soon come. Be prepared as to what you want to say to them. I personally refused to meet with them, but that's just me.
Oh and it's time to change your screen name to singlelife it's a much less stressing existence.

Still believe it's the truth?
by IronHill ini was speaking to a friend who has also disassociated themselves as a jehovah's witness.
the curious thing to me is that this person, although having some doubts, still has the feeling that the witnesses have the truth.
they get extremely uncomfortable when the subject of religion comes up, and have a hard time coinciding what they are doing now, and their thoughts on the jw religion.. it feels like the times i have talked about the witnesses (feeling we share the same sentiments), that wall that most witnesses put up, goes up for them as well.. i dont understand...why would they still feel this way?

Mind control, they haven't got rid of the WTs control yet. It's that simple imo. Get them to read Hassan's books, or something similar, it can help.
