Not sure what you tried to add, but the page on JW has a whole section called Criticism and controversies, also there are several wiki pages detailing criticism on JWs. I would think the reason for reverting your edit is that it wasn't neutral enough to be accepted.

Boyzone, is there a copy of that material somewhere? Would love to scan through these "not burdensome" laws.

So I went to vote yesterday...
by teel inguess i'm bird food now, huh?
it was quite an impulse vote, didn't really know any of the candidates, but i have a small interrest in not having a government change, so i went with that one.
mostly it was just to show myself that i can .

As I said I barely knew anything of the candidates Not for WT, but I'm not really the kind of guy who's into politics. The effort it takes to have a well founded decision in these matters seem not worth it to me. Maybe when I'm older or something So I would say... content, although when I read your question I still wasn't sure who won, had to look it up.

w96 9/1 says that the law of Moses had many decrees - more than 600. So, Christ did away with more than 500 laws, leaving only a couple in place, but heightened them to encompass our lives, and draw moral and acceptable actions from them.
cl 152-3 (Draw Close to Jehovah, ch 15 para 10 - sorry for not being able to quote, don't have the english CD with me) condemns the phariseans, because they decided for people what is considered work on sabbath, and that raised so many new questions, like if you kill a flea, is that considered hunting? That gave rise to even more laws.
I think the GB feels the trap they set up for themselves by publishing the way of the phariseans, and they are trying to soften things. They weasel their way around issues, not laying down actual laws, like the phariseans did. However the truth is the life of a JW is dictated down to his smallest step by a "brotherly reminder". "...No, it's not law, we would never burden our brothers with laws... a mature christian knows that he can't be faithful and yet [insert any of the couple hundred laws of WT]" Because of all that, I believe the actual number of WT laws is indeed higher than the number of mosaic laws.

The phrase "The Truth"
by lepermessiah inso, i am curious..... how many of you have a hard time getting that phrase out of your vocabulary?.
i have been conscienciously trying not to use it at all, so now when i am in a conversation with a jw, its amazing how often they use that phrase.
i look back and wonder "god, did i say that that often?

I was only 10 years "in the truth" and even when in, I felt some kind of aversion to using that phrase to describe a religion. Not that I didn't believe that it was the actual truth, it just felt so... cult like. I wonder why?

However even as I'm keeping myself away from the WT washing machine, I still try to make moral choices, to avoid the pitfall ofdoing something just because the WTS tells me not to do it. Even though I accept God as the final authority, and Jesus as the one to whom we must obey, I feel it's not a conflict to choose a mortal leader too, imperfect and maybe even immoral as he is. In comparison, say at my workplace the boss puts together a team, and tells us: "You guys know each other well, decide who will be the team leader". I think no JW would object to "voting" with the guy who is the most knowledgable in the workfield. Politics voting is the same, except the scale is much larger.
That said I am still officially a JW, and would like to keep it that way for the sake of my wife, so I actually looked around me while going in My congo was just at the meeting at that time. I thought about the prospect of "getting caught" and I was thinking in that situation maybe I could get the elders to say that they as religious authorities forbid me to go to voting, all the while secretly taping it. Now that would be quite funny - forbidding to vote is quite a serious offense, with at least a couple of years of imprisonment. I would not actually put them in jail, but a nice little scare would do them good. And maybe a bit of a wake up call for them too, since the first thing they would do is to contact JW legal department, and I'm sure the legal would just brush all responsabilities, and leave the elders on their own.

Names of the Angels
by KingAgag inhi all, this might be a silly question but i am honestly thinking about it.
i don't believe in god or angels but i am still curious as to this: the bible says that the stars are too many to number but that god knows them all "even by name".
logically then he would know the names of all his myriads of angels, right?

teel
Yes xeracia, that's the trick. See, the names had meanings back then, and when needed, they could be changed. For example Abraham's wife was called Sarai for a while, then renamed to Sarah (princess).

did you find the dubs were always late?
by highdose ini found the higher up the socail rank the dubs got, the more tardy they were for everything, meetings, ministry.
and of course when you invited them round.
so many times i can remeber the food spoiling/burning and 45mins to an hour later they would decide to finaly turn up!

That is a valid point Patient. I was about to say that too The obvious seems to be lost on my wife too, who never gets it why she has less time than the people around her. No, it's definately not the 20+ hours that goes weekly into slavery of the org... it must be something else! We also were often late, and the crammed lifestyle does have a big role in it. Highdose, you mentioned this worsens as one climbs the corporate ladder; the higher you are, the more work it's demanded of you.

Yep, it's up there, and I read it Now I'm butting in too, to aggree with Hillbilly, I recognized parts of so many of the Kingdom songs as being copied. Just the other day I heard the national anthem of Australia? or don't know what country, and there was a couple of measures that was almost exactly like one specific Kingdom melody.
The funniest ever is the song that started with the Looney Toons melody Can't find which one was that, even though I went through the songbook.
