my wife yesterday was talking about how useless it really is to feed the hungry and provide cold weather shelters since the problem will not go away until the 'new system of things'.. i know that at one time jesus does state that there will be poor always, but a key aspect of his ministry on earth was helping the less fortunate.
how does the wts justify the discouragement of its rank and file from performing acts of community service, when the 'greatest man who ever lived' was so active in it?.
All the while ignoring the clear Biblical message:
15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? ( James 2:15-16 )
But then again, they're not "brothers or sisters", they're just bird food, so why bother? Of course the same applies most of the times to those who they do consider brothers or sisters, I witnessed one occasion too.
i met a jw who said he hated driving to the kh because satan always changed the traffic lights to red so that he'd be late.
this is so absurd, showing how paranoid some of them are.
what similar, equally retarded, reasoning have you come across?
Satan as scapegoat is a great way of shifting responsability, a JW is not guilty of anything, it's always Satan. It was his fault turning the lights red, not my lazy ass to start off to KH too late and depending on a rolling series of green light to arrive in time.

i wanted to get some opinions on this.. the last few years i was active as a jw, i thought that the door-to-door preaching work was the biggest waste of time.
you rarely got anyone home, those you did get home were rarely interested, and it seemed like a huge waste of resources.. in line with that thought, i was speaking with a gentleman at work the other day - he is a very active pastor in the community, and him and i have gotten to be pretty good friends - we have had a ton of interesting conversations.he recently moved his church to a bigger location due to past and expected future growth.. he was telling me that one of his big concerns was the fall-off of church attendance in our area.
he had a company actually come in and do a study for him with census information, demographics, etc.
I try hard to remember, but I can't recall anyone baptized in the last 10 years because of the door-to-door service. It happened before, but these days they're all either children of JWs or close friends, relatives of JWs.
As pointed out several times in this forum, if you ask complete outsiders what's the message the JWs want to share with people, they hardly know it. These things are in line with that study. Door to door is obsolete and ineffective.
Yet it will never go away, a cult needs to keep members busy.

True Sweeney. But some JWs are indoctrinated in such way, that they truly believe one has to have a full set of beliefs ready to fill the empty place. They quote: "Where would we go?" - forgetting the Bible said "To whom would we go", meaning to Jesus. So as a stepping stone, that site might have its place for some until they find the true freedom, as long as they don't push their doctrines in an unethical way.
there is a scripture that basically says we shouldn't let men or a group of men interpret the bible for us... anybody remember what it is?.

i left the wt 17 years ago and haven't looked back.. what have been the biggest changes, manipulations, doctrines,.
lies, etc., of the watchtower organization in the past 17 years?.
Inquiry: as I see it they're not intent on hiding them, but the separation of the two provides a very good control tool. The WT tries to walk a very fine line between appealing to the public, and tightening the grip on the followers. The separation of the public/study WT reflects this: they only publish the really heavy stuff in the study WT, but the public generally won't read those until they're mostly in. The possibility is there, but few use it; if you point out the cult-like secrecy they say it's not secret, yet as long as it's possible it's witheld from possible new converts.
today, i was hanging out with my girlfriend and we were bored and cold, so we went over to my mom's kingdom hall just to show her what a cult looks like.
i was demonstrating to her how the witnesses use vague, emotion driven speech to try to conjure up the strong feelings in their members so they could control them easier, but i didn't pick this tiny tidbit up.
we kind of listened to the beat of the kingdom melody and we noticed something very odd.... the kingdom songs' cadences are the same rythmic cadences a hypnotist would use to hypnotize a person..
you need to play them backwards .... they say "SIMON IS GOD"

Thanks for the comments. The title itself is deception - Be Honest in All Things - that "All" refers to anything that won't make the WTS look bad. As soon as it comes to protecting the Society, you are expected to lie and cover up things, lest you bring reproach to Jehovah's organization.
for arguements sake, lets say you walk into a hall where you are not known and introduce yourself as one of them, how easy would it be to pass yourself off as a fully paid up devout dub?.

I couldn't do it, I'm not such a good actor. Even in my latter period of active JW I had problems fitting in with them.
Once we were in an other country, and my wife made contact with the local JWs there, and after a couple of happy greetings, and "innocent" questions (what are my responsabilities and such) the JWs visibly grew cold to me, and focused their adoration to my devout wife.
