Dieselman, I'm sorry if I didn't make my point clear (I have that problem often). Let me try again:

You say the ethiopian needed help to understand the Bible. If someone tries to understand it without having someone else explain it to him, then he thinks he's better than the ethiopian (your words). So does the GB receive some help from someone else, or do they interpret the Bible alone? Version 1: they interpret the Bible alone = they are better than the ethiopian.

Version 2: they get help from someone. Who is that they are getting help? Is there some other group of men who teaches them? That would just lead to a circular logic (as in who teaches those people? etc.) I assumed your answer would be they get help from the Holy Spirit. Good, that's a good answer - true Christians should get help from the HS. Now, you said the HS is not the propriety of the GB - that's great news (I think the GB disagrees with you, but I don't want to open that can right now).

So if I read the Bible alone, if my motives are pure the HS will help me, and I arrive at the correct understanding of the Bible, without ever reading any so-called Bible-based literature, or having someone (else than the HS) explain it to me.

This is 'sola scriptura' - scriptures alone. Is the WTS promoting this course of action, as outlined above?

If you think you are better than the Ethiopian then go ahead and come to your own understanding.

Is the GB better than the ethiopian? If not, who teaches them to interpret the Bible? You say Holy Spirit? Right, and who did Jesus promis the Holy Spirit to? Why do you think the HS would help a handful of men come to a correct understanding, and the vast majority of the people just have to rely on those to interpret the Bible for them? Is that not a following of men in fact?

a few months ago i read an article about this in discover magazine.

as i realized the implications it gave me a sick, eerie feeling.. in short, suppose memories of the deceased are collected and downloaded into a program?.

what you are about to see is a prototype program for what i suspect may be robotic construction for the near future of resurrecting loved ones who have passed on.

This has bothered me while in the cult too. I worked out for myself, that no matter what the JWs say, we must have a part of us that survives death - although to conform to JW "truths" it's a non-thinking part. The other option would be just way too dreadful to contemplate - like this video shows. This robot is indeed in fact a resurrected person per JW definition - JWs look at your future.

A conversation with a JW on the Generation change

i don't post here much, so hopefully i put this in the right section.

if not, let me know.. i've emailed my aunt about the new generation change, just to see her reaction to it and what her mindset is.

i tried to keep it simple and not attack her personally as she has a heart of gold and has been a jw 40+ years.

Her argument about the generation is a backward one: the end hasn't come yet, so it means the generation hasn't passed yet per Jesus' words, so we must look for a definition of the word that allows 100+ years for one generation. The thought doesn't even occur in her mind that maybe the whole concept of the end time starting in 1914 is wrong on itself. Incidentally that must be exactly the thought process of the GB too.

this was posted in the men's room stall, i hear the instructions in the womens room was more detailed.. this was in addition to having a "bathroom attendant" handing out 1 paper towel per person.. i haven't felt so childish since i was in grade schooll, i had to wonder if all the tall people around me were really grown men and women.. .

I'll never forget the time I walked into the KH bathroom during the Sunday meeting and there was a little boy about 9 sitting in the urinal taking a shit.

Maybe this will sound too weird, but I swear it's true: once in a DC I saw an old man wash his hand in the urinal. He was an old country folk, I didn't talk to him except show him where the faucet is - I didn't wanted to embarrass him any further, but I guess this was the first time he ever saw a urinal.

I had to walk around all day with the word "Restroom" on my chest. Not "Restroom Attendant," just "Restroom."

How do you put that rofl smiley? I really need that right here.

i was just wondering.... why do we jw's make such a big deal about jesus dying on a pole, as opposed to a cross?.

the original word, albeit, can lean either way.

and seems in favor of a pole rather than a cross.

Yep, even the Uncyclopedia article acknowledges the huge importance of this, under the "Unclean Things" subheading:

The cross. Reason: Jesus did not die on a criss-crossed pagan cross. Jesus would absolutely have refused to die on a pagan symbol, so Jesus took out the horizontal beam and die on the phallic symbol instead.

WT Video game ideas

i wonder if anyone on this forum can design simple games?

i was thinking it would be funny to have some out there.

such as instead of "paperboy", could make "watchtowerboy", flinging watchtowers at people, etc.

Here's one more: a meta game with all the ideas from this thread (future posts too). You start by making a weekly schedule sorting the mini games you wish to do on every game day. Some would be fixed (like the meeting based ones) - you can only enable or disable them, but disabling automatically decreases the global score of 'spirituality', so it's a strategic decision, only disable those to put some mini game in which you're very good.

Your available time would be limited, so you have to select those in which you are the best. After every mini game your score affects the global score of your "spirituality". If the 'spirituality' decreases, the difficulty of the mini games automatically increases.

If the score reaches zero, you get the special bonus round of JC - it could be a reflex-based mini game, where the Committee members throw some accusations at you, and you have to catch them. If you pass successfully, your spirituality is restored to a level depending on how well you did in front of the JC. If you fail, game over.
