A couple months ago I was in an elder's meeting, and couldnt wait for it to be over. It was going over two hours, which is one and a half hours too long. I was anticipating the COBOE to ask someone to close with prayer, when one of the brothers pulls out a list of inactive ones. He wanted to go over the list to see which ones we can make an attempt to reach out to. It had about fifteen names on it, some of whom havent stepped foot in our congregation for over thirty years. I'm younger than everybody else on that body, and a handful of the names on that list, I've never heard of. I thought to myself, I'm younger in years than the amount of years since these folks have been "spepherded."

Yay for Womanhood! Female Min.Serv's under consideration.
by cattails inthe "priscilla" deliberations.. gb subcommittees now re-considering role of women in the organization.. example of phoebe as "diakonos" revisited.. could women be appointed to ministerial servant positions in view of the need in congregations?.
what's your take on latest rumors?

An MS and his "wife" sit out back and work (together) on the sound system cabinet, she helps get things prgramed and adjusted for the meeting.
... another sister, a pioneer, helps out opening boxes of magazines and putting them alphabetically on mag. literature shelves for pick up.
... another pioneer sister opens up territories box and signs out territory when assigned MS is missing from meetings.
Why?
Well, it doesn't seem to mean that women are going to be assigned as MS, but it does show how they're sorely needed to get things done and and keep KHs running. But I guess the GB decided it was better to write a KM article encouraging to reach out to convert more men.
The saying "behind every great man, there's a great woman" reminds me of what you posted, and also whats happening in the Hall I attend. We've got a little more than a half dozen Ministerial Servants, and a few of them really would be lost if not for their wives. We've got a couple brothers who are on the verge of being appointed as Servants and they've got a few duties now like magazines. What stands out to me is that these men would be clueless without their wives. Their parts on Service Meetings depend totally on the preparation their wives do. I can tell when the brother is speaking that the words coming out of his mouth are not his style, but that of his wife. Then you have the brothers who might not be the must up front of men. They're almost bashful, shy, reserved if you will. However, their wives usually make up for what they lack in balls. Some of the pushiest women you could ever come across. They remind me of overzealous parents at their children's little league baseball game.
When it comes to preaching, its obvious women make up the bulk of those doing the work. I'd like to say its because their husbands are making a living, but reality tells me otherwise. There's several pioneers at my hall, and they're all single. Most support themselves. The single brothers at my hall, have no intention of pioneering, and barely make efforts to "reach out." The other night I was watching Sanford & Son, and the episode dealt with the neighborhood women wishing to use Sanford's home for their Bible Study Meetings. It was all women, and I believe that reflects society, at least in this country. I just don't think men are as inclined as women to perform religious duties.

I am having some reservations about Barbara Anderson
by JWoods inrecently, there was a very nice thread in which one of our posters apologized for having the temerity to challenge barbara anderson.. i thought it was very nice to see that they made up and put the personal stuff aside.. however, i felt the need to call it like i really feel it - i was very put off by the barbara anderson reply in which she plugged her new promotional meeting.
it brought back memories of that horrid little affair from a couple of years back when she kept posting up "the greatest new thing about blood which will bring down the watchtower society is just around the corner -- and i could tell you but then i would have to kill you, etc."..
just like another jehovah's witnesses prophecy about the coming of the lord in our time.. i am beginning to wonder if perhaps the siren song of self-promotion is getting a little too strong for real life.. ok. i said it.. james - and saying it was not the easiest thing that i have ever done.

JWoods said I started this thread (instead of a PM) because it was already a public issue.I knew that my viewpoint would not be a popular one. So be it.
I think it might be worth mentioning that a couple of weeks ago, yet another rumor has gotten started that "this summer a great revalation of new light on the blood issue will be coming out from the society"... we shall see if that happens, in due time.
My point was, and remains, that starting sensational rumors and doing constant self-promotion really does no good service to the exJW community.
Sorry if anyone is offended by my opinion.
I'm glad you put this out there because it needed said. There's a bunch of delusional threads on here. Every now and than its nice to see someone like you give people on here and lurkers a reality check. This isnt Dungeons & Dragons, or Warcraft. This is people's lives. To post over-speculative fantastic rumors does nothing but get people's hopes up only to be shot down with a canon upon realizing that all it was.......was a rumor with no foundation. Sensational nonsense I can do without.

Moral Question ...
by sacolton inwould you use the handicap stall that is big and roomy ... even if other smaller stalls were available?.

Since we're on the subject of moral questions, I've got one in a similar vein, I don't think this is hijacking, ..................At Best Buy, there are parking spaces designated for pregnant women. I've spent my fair share of time at Best Buy, and rarely do I ever see pregnant women there. My question is, is it wrong for me to park in those spaces? Its not like I can get fined for doing it, like you can if you park in a disabled section. There's never any pregnant women there, so would I be wrong? Every time I go there, there are several available spaces I could use, but can't dont cuz I'm not preggers.

I do. The floor I'm currently on, used to have someone disabled working in a different department. I would use it, but would do so cautiously because of him. Fortunately, his department got moved, so now I use whenever I want with no reservations.

When I was a MS, they had a couple day school for MS. They had it a local assembly hall. This was in the winter time, and the city I live in, our team was fighting for a Wild Card. This was right when phones started getting more advanced where you could see the news or latest scores. Brothers were going to the bathroom every half hour, or taking notes, while having their phone underneath their notepad quick viewing.
On a similar note, the hall I attend shares with another congregation and we rotate back and forth between the early meeting (9:30), and late meeting (1pm) anually, and I have to say I HATE the late meeting during football season. After football season ends, then the NBA heats up. I always end up missing the early games. Currently I'm at the late meeting, but even the early meeting has its drawbacks as you're expected to do field service after the meeting. If its not my turn to take the group out, or feed the visiting speaker, then I'm going home.

Possible Blood Doctrine Change: A Hypothetical Conversation with all JWs

I still think you guys are deluding yourselves. This thread is pure fantasy. Calling it Hypothetical is just adding vanilla icing to what is really brussel sprouts. Reality check folks, ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!! I'm not trying to hijack this thread, and if it comes off that way, I apologize. I hate troll activity. However, this thread is doing nothing but getting your hopes up, and getting lurkers hopes up too. This isnt Dungeons & Dragons. Stop fantasizing.
A month ago, we had a part on updated DPA's. Field Service Group Overseers passed out the new forms to those in their groups. This didnt happen in every state, only about a dozen or so states with specific laws. I'm not 100$ sure what the legality in regards to the specific states this happened in. Fast forward, to last week at the Service Meeting, for the local needs part, they reminded those that hadn't filled out the DPA and presented a copy to the Secretary yet, to do so. They emphasized not to delay. I can't see the reasoning behind emphasizing this, only to rescind the policy several months later. Chalk this up with lowered Pioneer hours, Circuit Overseer elimination, Elder's School, etc..

"When armageddon happens, I want to be able to SEE the people dying"
by jambon1 insaid to myself & others by a jw elder.. i always recall this as a sort of .
when this elder was pressed on the matter, he replied that it was because of all the years of laughing & sneering & mocking that he had put up with, quoting the scripture that goes along the lines of 'where is this promised presence of his'.. i realise now that this person is not loving.
and yet, i would hear similar sentiments from others such as 'just wait until the end' or 'i wonder if they'll be saying that when jesus comes with his big sword'.. even as a jw pioneer, the thought of such a thing happening to people repulsed me.

This morning a similar thought crossed my mind. I'm on the bus, and this little kid turned around in his seat and looked at me. I'm not a people person, nor am I into kids. But when he looked at me, I couldnt help but to make faces at him, and do things to make him smile. When he started giggling it made me feel good. That's when the JW side of me kicked in, and I thought to myself someday he and everyone on this bus are soon to be destroyed. If not for this religion, the word "destroyed" probably wouldnt even be in my vocabulary. The apostate side of me kicked in, and I thought of how ridiculous my thought process has been all these years.
Similary, there are times I go over my folks pad, and watch the basketball game with my father. When watching the game, my dad will make the comment, "they're getting their reward now, but soon we'll get ours." To the average person that doesnt sound like much, but to JWs, what he said really means, "Jehovah is going to destroy all of them, for not accepting our message. Then we'll be in the new system forever." Thoughts like this leave me uneasy anymore. I feel awkard when I hear comments like that, or other thoughts similar, like you mentioned Jambon.
