I'm reading somewhat positive reviews for this film. There's a cynical side of me that I just couldn't supress after watching the trailer. A movie about owls? LOL, are you serious? Any of you go, or take your kids to see it? After seeing that trailer I thought to myself no wonder kids are obese and getting soft.

Why do some expect the WTS to one day end? It's simply not going to happen folks........
by jambon1 inin my anger as an ex witness about 4 years ago i really wished that this would happen.
although the glaring errors, hypocrisy & downright badness of the wts was finally evident to me personally, others whom i had expeced to eventually leave the org have not.. i think it dawned on me around 1 or 2 years ago that my wife will never leave the witnesses.
having presented in both heated & reasonable debate every kind of logical argument against the religions teachings the conversations would get to the point where she would simply refuse to answer my questions.

I agree they'll always be around in one shape or another. I rarely post on the "wishful thinking" threads as I feel its a waste of time, and all it does is gets a person's hopes up, only to be shot down. IF you keep a crappy disposition, you're rarely dissapointed.

Could They Dump The Assemblies?
by metatron inmy theory continues to be that the governing body will be forced to break down the organization piece by piece.. so, i wonder: could they dump the assemblies?.
it is clear - that they are having some problems in this area.
they are selling off assembly halls in some countries, they have moved some district assemblies to assembly halls (to save money on rent) and the pleas for donations from the platform have not let up.. while zombie witlesses may drag themselves to meetings and out in service (with whatever literature/magazines the watchtower manages to afford) indefinitely, i watch this area with interest.

But then, I didn't think they'd dump the Congregation Book Studies like they did. Those were always supposed to be so important for when gvt. turns on religion, the Halls are seized, and dubs have to meet secretly in private homes for survival. I guess Jehovah changed his mind about all of that.
This is one of the things that got me thinking too!!!! Fast forward to September 2010 and the sheeples have forgotten how important the book study was to be in times of emergency!! They even changed the name of the conductor to the Book Study Overseer to add extra umph to the arrangement. All of that is a thing of the past.

Interesting Watchtower quote on Jeremiah 29:10 - Seventy years FOR Babylon.
by nicolaou inanyone familiar with the society's tortuous reasoning on the whole 607b.c.e - 586/7b.c.e debate knows how, and why, they consistently render jeremiah 29:10 as;.
"for this is what jehovah has said, in accord with the fulfilling of seventy years at babylon i shall turn my attention to you people,.
however, in the infamous book 'from paradise lost to paradise regained' on page 114 we find the following;.

Seventy years of servitude and tribute to Babylon, vs. seventy years of exile in Babylon.

Child beating
by Quillsky insome posters here still attend jehovah's witness meetings.
my challenge to you is..... next time you see a parent beating a human child in public at the kingdom hall, when there are two witnesses - you and one other - call 911 or the police, and report the parent by name, for child abuse..

Why is it ok to pull down a childs pants and spank his butt and it would not be ok to punish an adult this way?
Fair enough. It does happen to adults, upon their conviction in a court of law and they're sent to a prison where upon arrival their pants are pulled down..............and well you get the picture..........

We taking bets on how heated this thread is gonna be? Every couple months this kind of thread appears, and it always fascinates me how heated it becomes.

Some of these kids need their rear kicked. It might prevent them from breaking in your house when they reach teenage years.

What silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?
by 3Mozzies inso what silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?.
back in my early 20's, i had a pair of comfy old jeans that started to tear in about 3 places on the leg.
it was the fashion at the time so not only did they feel great to wear, they also looked 'in', not that i cared for that, but it was a bonus .

When I was younger as a Ministerial Servant, the Elders and my dad jumped on me for wearing a sports coat on a Sunday meeting during which I was the chairman.
I got counseled on violent video games. I had games like Doom and Duke Nukem. Plus your Street Fighters and Mortal Kombats.
When I still lived at home, an Elder called the house looking for my dad. I picked it up, and we spoke briefly. He asked what I was doing. I told him I was watching wrestling. Not real wrestling, but WWF, Vince McMahon, etc.. He told me that was violent and we shouldn't watch that kind of entertainment.
Mom always went through my music collection and tossed all that she deemed inappropriate. Zoiks, funny you mentioned The Cure. I had and still believe I have their Pornography CD. Mom never bothered with that because she was so intent on finding my rap collection that she didn't realize in an effort to get away from listening to rap I branched out to other kinds of music. If she would have seen the title of that CD I'm sure she would have tossed it. Great dark album by the way.
Nowadays my dad still respectively counsels me about watching boxing and MMA. He recognizes me being my own man, plus he likes boxing too although he's better than me at turning it off. I love boxing, I always have, and I would have liked to have tried my hand at it. I know its wrong, and I have to force myself not to watch it. Even now when I work out, I incorporate shadow boxing in my routines.
Funny you guys mentioned the colored dress shirts. Depending on the CO and DO and their peculiarities they might give the thumbs up on colored shirts, or thumbs down requiring you to wear white shirts. I love my colored shirts. Kenneth Cole, Geoffrey Beene, Nautica, etc.. Those shirts look good when paired with the right suits.

I don't regret missing out on playing sports in school. Any temporary satisfaction I would have gotten by playing sports would pale in comparison to the joy I've experienced in spiritual pursuits. The time I spent on quick builds and auxilliary pioneering were priceless moments in my life. Not to mention the friends were better association for me than spending unneccesary time being unevenly yoked with unbelievers. I have fond memories of Christian gatherings when we played Bible Bingo and Bible Costume Parties. In the near future I look forward to playing with animals. To miss out on playing with animals in the future because I wasted my time with organized sports would be tragic indeed.
