If I were the only black man working for NPR in broadcasting two weeks ago - I think I would have been fired for not being liberal/PC enough.
But I would be getting along very well by going over to FOX for more money.
LOL, you just had to get that dig in, didn't you?

How to prepare for a JC defense
by brotherdan inmany of you have heard this recording, but i wanted to post it again for some of you (bottleofwater) that will possibily be in jc's soon.
rick townsend does an excellent job (imo) of attempting to defend his position to the elders.
in nearly every category his arguments are stronger.. it is a bit frustrating to listen to because of the elders lack of reasoning ability, but rick is amazing.

One goal was to delay any kind of DFing until after a specific date, for personal reasons.
LOL I forgot about this. That post made my day. I felt like I was invited to the wedding and reception!

I guess when you think about it, the JC really is just another test of demonstrating your humility. By attending you may call it standing up for yourself, or defending yourself. However, you're really just playing a game thats been rigged for you to lose. The elders on the JC often enough aren't even aware that the game is rigged. They just follow the rules as layed out in the Flock book. Ask yourself, how many appeals have you heard of that went successful?

Does being 59 count? I've been unemployed for 18 months and one of the things I'm running up against is an attitude that they want younger people. Probably against the law, but how do I prove it? And who's going to want to talk to me later?
And I know, this isn't like being black, female or some other segment of society that has been put down for centuries.
Age discrimination is very relevent I believe. I believe I may have just discriminated against an older coworker. I saw her getting up to warm up her lunch in the microwave, and she's like 60. I grabbed my can of soup and plastic bowl and walked real fast through another row of cubicles so I could beat her to the microwave. She had to wait on me about 30 seconds, which is better than waiting on her for 5 minutes.

Syl, I'm not entirely understanding your question. I will say I don't feel particulary oppressed per say. Maybe systematically screwed over and slightly envious of those born into different situations that appear more attractive than that of my own. But oppressed, hmmm, nah.

It's OK Lurkers, Paranoid former JW's, and even you current JW's....
by AllTimeJeff init's ok.... to post here on the internet, on jwn, and other jw related forums.. first of all, as we all know, the governing body doesn't provide a forum for jw's to "associate" with their brothers and sisters.
i'm just guessing, and i could be wrong, that its harder to control the flock when they have free access to information and each other.
damn electricity and the technology it brings..... anyway, i realize that for anyone leaving, or for practicing jw's, to post is a nervous thing.

I remember the first time I posted.........wow. It was like killing a small fuzzy animal for the first time. Maybe thats not a good comparison, I don't know. All I know was that it was a tremendous hump. There were several times I came close to posting but my conscience plagued me so much that I couldn't do it. So many times I was gonna create a user acount but I just couldn't do it. I had spoken to disfellowshipped people low-key in times past out of sympathy. Certain friends I knew as a teenager that got DFd I talked to without others knowing. Hung out with a couple of them. I haven't really done that in years as you grow apart from people as you get older for the various reasons we all know. Posting here though, was an alltogether different experience though. We're talking about conversing with.....eek!!! Apostates!! You guys are the worst of the worse as far as former JWs go. I didn't know what to really expect while lurking. I wasn't expecting Satan worshipping kitten killers, but I wasn't expecting characters like Mouthy either.
I have to say, that first post and hanging around was one of the greatest decisions I've ever made in my life. Otherwise I'd still be mad as hell, and frustrated, and you want to know the worst part? I wouldn't have known why I felt so miserable. I had a feeling for a long time that something wasn't right, and maybe I knew exactly what it was years ago but got so caught up in the hamster wheel that I forgot. I assimilated and gradually forgot how to isolate and verbalize what things I felt are dead wrong in this organization. I had also forgotten how to do the same for the good things in this organization which was kinda of an unintentional result of posting, debating, and conversing here. Its like I'm reclaiming my identity, although the argument can be made that maybe I never had one. Been a heck of ride since I got that phony hotmail account that I'll never remember the password to ever again. Well worth it.

Why the JW's mental image of Paradise is a pipe dream

shortages, perfect weather, no pollution, no disease, and be.

Sometimes when breezing through the WT pictures of what paradise will look like I feel bad because I'm not exactly ecstatic about it. I feel really indifferent about it. Considering how we're trained to think everything is wrong with us, it makes me feel as if my heart isn't complete toward God or something. I'm more excited breezing through the Best Buy ads in the Sunday paper than I am looking at the little kids playing with animals in the WT. I think that the WT's view of what paradise is, is insulting to a degree. If I had perfect health, and a perfect mind with unlimited possibilities, I don't think I'd want to play with animals and drink iced tea all day while dressed in khakis with tucked in polo shirts. Not only that, but to be honest, when I think about the resurrection, I really don't care that much about what many bible characters have to say. I don't want to hang out with any Hebrew soldiers. I don't want to hear any stories from Moses or Jehu, or anybody for that matter. I've heard enough of these stories my entire life. I'd want to finally have a perfect body and mind and push both as far as they can be pushed without the hinderances of a faithful and discreet slave, and the hinderances of imperfection. To have perfection and waste it playing with animals, drinking ice tea and listening to stories of resurrected Hebrews doesn't sound like something to look forward to.

MLE,
Let me know if my jokes are getting old. Whenever the topic of birthdays comes up, I automatically wonder if I should take off my pagan pants. And when the subject of 607-1914 comes up, I start searching for new photos of the great pyramid of giza.
Your alright dude LOL. To think all these years we took all this bull shit seriously? I got all high and mighty defending my some eccentric weirdo's views on birthdays. I stuck my chest out and looked at my classmates and teacher and said, "I'm one of Jehovah's Witness! We don't celebrate birthdays!" The only thing I was, was a complete jackass LOL. Humor is the thing that makes it easier to swallow. So keep the jokes coming!! The day I stop laughing about what this loony religion has done to myself and others, might be the day I start investing in ammunition.
