Thee as in Thee Governing Body vs. the governing body in Jerusalem.
by miseryloveselders ini've had the book for well over a year, the bearing thorough witness publication, but like most wt books, i didn't bother to really look at it until time for it to be used in the congregation bible study.
another thread mentioned this before how they're capitalizing the g on the governing body.
however, they don't provide the same treatment for the same title when referring to those in the bible they label as the governing body.

I've had the book for well over a year, the Bearing Thorough Witness publication, but like most WT books, I didn't bother to really look at it until time for it to be used in the Congregation Bible Study. Another thread mentioned this before how they're capitalizing the G on the Governing Body. However, they don't provide the same treatment for the same title when referring to those in the bible they label as the governing body. I'm not an English, Linguistics, or Vocabulary teacher, so maybe some of the more learned amongst us here on JWN can help me out. Is there a reason why they shouldn't capitalize the G when they refer to the apostles and older men that they label as the governing body of that time? The title or phrase itself is not in the scriptures, and I believe they've even acknowledged this, but in the Bearing Thorough Witness book, they have multiple paragraphs with both the Governing Body and the governing body. I'll share a couple instances with you.
This is from page 101, the title page for chapter 13 of the book. "There Had Occurred No Little Dissension- The issue of circumcision goes before the governing body."
Page 102, the question for paragraph 8. "Why was the issue of circumcision taken to the governing body in Jerusalem?"
Page 103, paragraph 8. In the interests of peace and unity, the congregation wisely arranged to take the question to "the apostles and older men in Jerusalem," who made up the governing body. What can we learn from the elders in Antioch?
Page 103. paragraph 9. One valuable lesson we learn is that we need to trust God's organization. Consider: The brothers in Antioch knew tht the governing body was made up entirely of Christians of Jewish background. Yet, they trusted that body to settle the question of circumcision in harmony with the Scriptures. Why? The congregation was confident that Jehovah would direct matters by means of his holy spirit and the Head of the Christian congregation, Jesus Christ. (Matt.28:18, 20; Eph. 1:22, 23) When serious issues arise today, let us imitate the fine example of the believers in Antioch by trusting God's organization and its Governing Body of annointed Christians, who represent "the faithful and discreet slave."-Matt 24:45.
Page 105, paragraph 17. "The apostles and the older men" acted in a representative way for the entire Christian congregation, just as the Governing Body does today.
Page 107, paragraph 22. Today, too, when the members of the Governing Body meet, they look to God's Word for direction and pray earnestly for holy spirit. (Ps. 119:105; Matt. 7:7-11) To that end, each member of the Governing Body recieved an agenda ahead of time so that he can give the items prayerful thought.
page 107, paragraph 23. The branch, in turn, may write to the Governing Body if necessary.
page 107, question A, for paragraphs 22-24. How does the Governing Body today follow the example of the early governing body?
Is it appropriate to refer to the those who met and discussed the circumcision issue as a governing body per say? If so, should it not be capitalized as is the Governing Body of today? I don't think its petty of me to ask this question by the way, because every other article anymore refers to the faithful and discreet slave. I mean EVERY other article. It's like they're trying to tell us something, or maybe more appropriate, emphasize something. One might even say, remind us of something that we seem to be forgetting.

For those of you not in the know(lucky SOBs you!!), the Congregation Bible Study wrapped up the Come Be My Follower book last week. We're now into the Bearing Thorough Witness publication. I shouldn't be shocked, but you know it only took the first couple pages of this book to irritate me? In particular paragraph 9, on page 7. I paraphrased some of it in the thread title. Here's the actual paragraph.
9. An intriguing question to consider is, Why has no obstacle, not even satanic opposition, been able to stop the forward movement of the Kingdom-preaching work? To answer that question, we need to look back to the first century C.E.. After all, we modern-day Witnesses of Jehovah are continuing the work that started back then.
This paragraph seemed curious to me for a couple reasons. For one thing, "After all", came off so arrogant to me. Maybe I'm looking too hard into their use of "after all", someone adjust my impression if appropriate. The other thing that bothered me was how they insinuate that they're picking up where the 1st Century Christians left off at. They make it seem as if Christianity didn't exist from between the 2nd Century up until the first couple decades of the 1900s. However, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the WT and JWs wouldn't exist, had it not been for the Bible Student movement, right? The Bible Students wouldn't have existed had it not been for the Seventh Day Adventists. The Seventh Day Adventists wouldn't have existed if not for the Millerite movement. The Millerite movement wouldn't have existed if not for the Baptists. The Baptists wouldn't have existed if not for the English Dissenters. We can go on and on with the origin of these unique denominations, but you get the point.
What so backwards about their claim is, the WT's very existance is the result of the work done by other denominations for multiple centuries. How do they so conveniently ignore all of that history? It reminds me of something Terry posted some time ago when he asked, "If there's always been a faithful and discreet slave on the earth, why didn't Russell just join them?" I cram to understand how they just brush off so many centuries of history that ultimately gave birth to them?

Greed & Blood Transfusions
by Alfred inif this doesn't make you angry, nothing will.... you say that "at a blood transfusion the person receiving the blood is in great need of it; the transfusion is not undertaken because he is greedy for it".
for when a doctor tells a patient that he must have a blood transfusion or else he cannot get well and live, what does the doctor create in the patient but a greed for the blood of another human creature?
-watchtower may 15, 1950 page 159. so, according to the wt, people who accept blood transfusions (because they want to live and be there for their children) are greedy!
-
miseryloveselders
Wow, that's just ludicrous. Isn't there another article where they get Sci-Fi with it and insinuate that if you recieve a blood transfusion from a criminal's blood, its likely you'll exhibit the criminals behavior? You'll start robbing banks, and raping people.....

Is it Fight Club? I'm straining not to Google it. That sappy New Jersey romantic coming home movie seems to be in harmony with that line too. I can't remember the name of that movie.

That stuff is crazy. I've struggled with sleep for a long time, even as a child. As I've gotton older, its become worse. I can't stop thinking about things. Constantly agitated, mind racing, and waking up from the stupor of this religion only contributed to my anxiety and insomnia. I can't speak for all men, but we're probably more notorious than women when it comes to seeing a physician. My doc was concerned about my blood pressure and anxiety, and possibly mild depression. So she put me on Paroxetine which helped tremendously on the anxiety end of things. Then she wanted to really focus on sleep. So she put me on Alprazolam(Xanax) which helped a little, but it still didn't knock me out like I wanted. Plus I'm kinda leary of benzos. So she tried Zolpidem(Ambien), and at first it seemed to work, but it still didn't do much. So I figured I'd give it a helping hand with a little Svedka. The rest is history, or at least Google Cache history along with some assistance from the Mods. I apologize for what I posted as it was completely inappropriate and dispicable. I wonder occasionally if what I posted is a reflection of whats really in my wicked heart? I ain't never been any good. Who knows, but that stuff is crazy with alcohol. I was waking up in the bathroom like how the heck did I get here?
One morning getting ready for the meeting, I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and get a shower. I looked in the mirror, and my white tee was covered in blood stains. I'm wiggin out at that point, but for whatever reason I felt the need to smell the blood. So I did, and it smelled like buffalo sauce. So I ran into the kitched to see the garbage can, and there was a styrofoam container with the remains of chicken wings. I ran to where my Dockers were from the night before to check the pockets, and sure enough there was a reciept from the pizza shop down the street. The kitchen was clean, no dishes or anything. I'm thinking in my Ambien w/Becks stupor, I cleaned up with my white tee shirt. Crazy stuff. I've never touched that stuff since. I didn't remember a thing from the night before. The evidence didn't lie, same with the threads I posted here. The only bad thing is I've gone back to another poison. I sometimes go to CVS, or Walgreens, and get a bottle of Diphenhydramine(Sominex/Benadryl) 50mg capsules, and I'll take a handful of them. It does the trick, but my liver is probably looking like Papa Smurf as the capsules are blue. It leaves my mouth dryer than your average crack or methhead. But it does the trick, I think more affective than benzos or sedatives like Ambien/Lunesta.

Philadelphia & its 21 priest scandal.
by Peaches1978 inbelow is a story that is going on here in philadelphia with 21 priest that have been accused of raping and molestation of children, now my question is if the media has made this so out to light for the public.
why can't they do the same for jw's and their issues with pedophile.. archdiocese facing numbers crunch, toonewtown square, pa. - the archdiocese of philadelphia is dealing with a major image problem.. four people are accused of sexually abusing children and a monsignor is accused of covering up abuse.. cardinal justin rigali continued his meetings with priests this week, heading to newtown square on tuesday.. however, he was carefully escorted out a back door to avoid our cameras.
and the cardinal's driver even went the wrong way down a one way street to avoid the media.

So for every JW pedophile, there are 10 Catholic pedophiles.......interesting. I wonder if the ratio is still 1:1 considering the difference in the amount of Catholics vs JWs?

by flipper inthis is a non-study article in the witness only version of the april 15th titled " do you discern the evidence of god's guidance ?
" essentially in this article the alleged " faithful slave " is telling witnesses that to be approved to survive armageddon- they will have to recognize the " faithful & discreet slave's " authority in their lives.. notice these direct quotes from pg.
4 , " jesus christ is the assigned leader of the congregation.

I'll be honest with you, I've said this before, but sometimes I wonder if they're purposely doing this in an effort to sabatoge their own credibility. It's like they're trapped themselves by the organization's history and teachings and trying to instigate a schizm of some sorts. I'd like to know how often the faithful and discreet slave was mentioned in years and decades gone by. Maybe someone with the CD Rom handy can find out for us.
Someone may be able to help me, but didn't Sam Herd once make the statement about another issue that if enough JWs had prayed enough about whatever matter he was referring to, that it would have caused the GB to act sooner? I can't recall what it was. That statement told me that even some of them in positions of authority aren't capable of spearheading any positive change in this organization. Its like they need help to force the issue themselves. Thats why I wonder if with every mention of the F&DS, they purposely put another straw on the camel's back in the hope that something will give. They can't reverse the blood policies, or even the shunning policies too drastically as they may set themselves up for potential liability. However they can make the religion become so suffocating and outragous that enough people along with prominent heavyweights will support a major schizm.
I know I'm following Alex Jones too much, and I probably need some rest. One last thing, if its not a calculated effort at sabotaging themselves at least with the major players being aware of it, there is at least some active moles in powerful positions up there. That "Nobody Should Be Forced To Choose" article couldn't have gotten out the doors without multiple people raising an eyebrow.
