Poster Vs. Person
by minimus insometimes we treat people here like our friends and sometimes we treat them like crap.
and we may often view them indifferently.. i've often said here that i very much doubt some individuals would talk to me face to face like they do here.
in this forum you can get away with a lot because i think we tend to view the people behind the keyboards as merely "posters" -- not real persons.

I know sometimes it's hard to differentiate between a poster and a person but it can be done.
This post reminds me of people who are quick to throw up a middle finger at other drivers behind the safety of their locked car with windows rolled up. I've often thought to myself, there's quite a few people who don't realize how much of a blessing it is that I'm a JW. Believe me when I say it, there's quite a few people who I wouldn't have had a problem dumping their body where nobody can smell them if not for conscience. But that's a different story. There's definately some wreckless posters on this forum who conveniently hide behind the safety of a anonymous message board and IP Addresses. The stuff they pop off about in here, they wouldn't dream about speaking like that out in the open. I guess thats what makes the internet beautiful though right? You can be completely honest without repurcussions. On a personal note, I think its somewhat therapeutic too as I occasionally look at some of my old posts and am surprised that I hit the submit button. Can't deny it though that it was me, and it just exposes more flaws I need to work on I guess.

The Governing Body has openly declared war on the individual. No focus can be shown to any person, ever (unless they were in a Nazi concentration camp or their name is changed, so you can't verify the phony story). A birthday party is all about the individual. All focus is on them that day. A cake has their name on it. A song is sung in their honor which also contains their name.
We can't have that, because everything is hive-minded. No independent thinking or actions are permitted. No independent study or even Bible reading is encouraged. Everything has to be OKed by the leaders of the group. Every thought and action has to be identical for everyone in the group or the group members will turn you in to the leaders of the group. Think of a flock of migrating birds, flying in formation. No deviation or individuality is allowed. You aren't a Christian; heck you aren't even a Jehovah's Witness anymore. No, you are "one of Jehovah's Witnesses", because you are not a person, but only a part of a group. You are merely a minuscule cog in the collective who would not be missed if you disappeared. The "Organization" grinds on to Paradise and you can ride its coattails there or you can go off on your own and die.
Meanwhile, the Governing Body can demand adoration, praise, and worship. But it's okay, because none of them are mentioned by name. They are a "class" and no individual is promoted.
One of the realest pieces I've ever read in my entire life.

Ohh yeah, and another thing too, like others mentioned, the 607 date given as when Babylon sacked Jerusalem amongst other doctrines is bothersome too. The WT isn't interested in dialogue or research and correction where necessary, they're interested in power and mantaining the status quo as Carl Olof Jonsson and Ray Franz's interactions with them illustrated. The same way the Pharisees, Scribes, and Sadducees in Jesus' day felt threatened by God's Son, and did whatever they could to stamp out the threat to their way of live that He posed, the WT operates much in the same fashion. What they lack in humility, they make up for in excessive pride, and paranoia.

I'm still very much in, but as far as my heart goes, I'm pretty much gone. My reasons for this is the lack of love towards nonJWs. There's always this Us vs. Everyone Else mentality that disturbs me. Within that mentality, there's an underlying bloodlust that the WT encourages through their literature and JW meetings. They really cannot wait until everyone excluding them is destroyed. When Jesus' disciples were anticipating the end of that system of things, it was understandable. The Jewish religious leaders made life difficult on Christians, not to mention the Roman occupation. You can liken it to Iraqis under Saddam, and then later US Infidels occupying their land. As far as JWs being persecuted, with the exception of Russia and some other oddball totalitarian countries, JWs are not getting persecuted. Particulary here in the States, JWs are a nonfactor in people's lives. As a born-in, to have been taught my whole life that all nonJWs are wicked and going to be destroyed very very very soon, only to discover otherwise as I got older, was a tremendous credibility killer for the WT.
Another thing is the repetative cycle of formalities peculiar to JWs. These incessant meetings, neverending field service in apathetic communities, the neverending references to the Faithful and Discreet Slave, literature that can arguably be labled propaganda which continually seeks to elicit emotions out of the reader which are simply not present. It's like enough with the exclamation points already. I guess to ball of that up in a nutshell, I'd say faith cannot be regimented. Faith and the works behind it have to come from the heart, however this religion seeks to motivate or one might say manipulate works, through fear and ostracism. Once a person dispels the fear portion of it all, such as losing Jehovah's favor and possibly being destroyed in the near future, they've got one more obstacle to deal with. Which is, the almost certainty of losing their family and loved ones via disfellowshipping, disassociating, or even marking. I can only imagine how many JWs have contemplated, or have successfuly committed suicide because of trying to live up to some unscriptural measurement, but realizing that they simply cannot. Lord knows I've been suicidal at times. This religion just isn't healthy.
One last thing I feel needs mentioned, is the class distinctions found within the WT. A perfect example is this 30 hour Auxilliary Pioneer initiative for this month only. The word pioneer is not in the Bible, nor is there any word with a meaning that can be stretched to match up to the word pioneer as we use it today. Fact of it all is, we don't know how many hours Paul, or Jesus spent in the ministry. Yet, the WT will encourage people to live up to some imaginary bar of 50 hours, or 70 hours, or for the month of April 2011........30 hours. Consider how that sounds. If you signed up for the 30 hour initiative this month, they're going to read your name off from the platform, and announce that you're an auxilliary pioneer for the month of April 2011. Now next month if you decide you're going to get another 30 hours in the ministry, well thats fine and dandy, but you're not going to get your name read from the platform. You were only special last month. Its arbitrary nonsense like that has really left a bad taste in my mouth in recent years.

Everyone comes into the room, Jaracz recently resurrected from the dead by Satan himself commences the meeting.

That would be a heluva mindstate. Sheesh, being a born in JW is hell enough, and then to pepper it with some Jihad fundementalism. ..recipe for disaster. I find it interesting that after being raised JW, he was most comfortable making the transition to a radicalized Islam. My father spent time as a young man with Muslims, of the Farakkan types before becoming a JW. I love him, but he's crazy sometimes too. Very angry at the world, and praying Armageddon comes at any moment so that as he puts it, "all these people get theirs." There's some similarities in the vitriol between the WT and Islam. Or heck, any fundamentalist religion.
