I just massacred and entire bag of Oreo cookies and quarter gallon of milk. My stomach is killing me. Ohh, I just want to croak right now. This is one of those, "God if you make this go away, I'll never do it again" moments. At least until next time anyway!

Are you serious? What kind of Christianity encourages suicide bombing and terrorism as a religious rite? What kind of Christianity would not denounce any nutjob member who did such things?
Ever hear of Timothy McVeigh, Christian Identity Movement, Hutaree Militia, William Pierce, The Worldwide Church of God, James Wickstrom, and even to a lesser extent.............Sarah Palin?

Would this include Jehovah's Witnesses? Please?

I'm about to put a note on my front door that says "Dear nice Jehovas Witnesses,
I'm sorry, I appreciate your persistance, but we simply aren't interested. You seem like nice people, but we aren't in the market for a new religion. Thanks."
Seriously, they've been by like 5x in the past 1.5 months. I guess I'm too nice.

In the past month alone I've had Mormons, Jehovas Witnesses, window washers, people trying to persuade me to change gas companies and a few questionable charities. I wanted to put up a NO SOLICITING sign on our door, but my husband thought it would be tacky.
I would welcome a "Do Not Knock" registry in our neighbourhood
And as always, a loyal dub makes their presense felt.........

The right to knock on door has been legally established in a recent Supreme Court case Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York Inc. v. Village of Stratton, Ohio, 2002. While whole towns do not have the right to legally bar door to door visitors, householders or residents are free to place signage or request that people not visit them at their door. Remember that this right is intertwined in this country with freedom of speech, which many want to use for themselves but sometimes do not want to give to others who they do not agree with

Question for Billy The Ex-Bethelite and others who had forgone college sometime ago.
by garyneal ini was talking with my wife today about college and i asked her about why the society makes such a big deal about witnesses not going to college.
in typical dub fashion, my wife tells me that they do not discourage college, but they do not encourage it either.
instead, they encourage placing kingdom interests first.. now i told her about you (billy) and how you were at bethel and are now starting college at the age of 40 (i think that is correct).

The city I live in has two major universities, and a few other smaller schools including a community college. Every year a couple JW kids from out of state or from out in the boonies stay on campus in the city, and they end up coming to the KH I attend. They get treated as if they're "marked." Sure, "the friends" will converse with them briefly but there's a weird suspicion directed at these young adults. The most bizarre part of it all is when we have parts on pioneering, or lessons in the WT Study with paragraphs on young people pioneering. Those lessons always include a paragraph or two discouraging higher education. It makes for an awkward meeting when you have four or five JW students from out of town and "the friends" are dissing college in their comments. Last year, there was a lesson in the spring that made me feel embarrased to be a part of the congregation. The WT study article didn't directly come out and say higher education was a sin, but by the time those commenting were finished with those paragraphs related to school, you would have thought attending college was tantamount to rape or murder. The whole time I was sitting towards the back, on the left side of the hall. From that vantage point, I could see the out of town students looked very uncomfortable being there. After that lesson, one of them who was a nice young gal, never came back after that lesson. That meeting disgusted me.
When I was wrapping up high school I made a mistake that I've regretted for a long time. I was in 10th grade, and a presentation was done about learning a trade at a neighboring school. They gave us a letter that summerized the program. I folded up the paper and put it in my back pocket. My mother who is an uber dub, 2nd generation pioneer, was washing clothes and pulled that paper out of my back pocket. She saw the word "trade", and thought, "well Jesus was a carpenter. A perfect carpenter. My son can learn a trade too!" So the course was set. From high school until my late twenties, I went from dead end job to dead end job. Eventually I went to a one year Medical based school that got me in a better position nowadays. But being honest, I've had a resentment towards my mother ever since, and lately I'm developing a hatred toward the WT Society. They shouldn't be able to have that much influece over our lives. They're overstepping their boundaries, and I hate them for it.

Virgina already has AZ illegal immigration law

It's VIRGINIA. Of COURSE none of the claims have been "substantiated."
I gotta kick out of this. I love how on the Best Buy ad in the Sunday paper, there are speed detectors. There is an asterix beside the product that states not sold or legal in Virginia. To me that says mountains about Virginia's law enforcement. I would't ever want to get pulled over down there.

Seems Michael Vick Can't Dodge Trouble

I don't think anybody ever expected the shooting victim to show up at the party. The guy that got shot was the very person who snitched on Vick. The audacity of this rat to show up at the birthday party of the person he snitched on is surprising to say the least. I really don't blame Vick too much for what transpired in this particular case.

The girl on the left, I'd give her about a 6 on a 1-10 scale. With the burger in her hands though, I'd give her a 9.5. If she personally feeds me the burger, she's official dime status.

I kind of look back on my whoopins as a rite of passage. I remember one time as a kid, my dad was furious about something I did that I'd rather not relate on here. At any rate, the only thing I remember was him coming for me, and then, the entire room was upside down. The carpet was where the ceiling should have been and the ceiling was where the floor should have been. The whole time he was holding me in the air by the ankle and spanking me with a belt in his other hand. He lit me up that day. The last time he spanked me was somewhat funny. He took the belt and did his thing, and I just looked at him stoically. It didn't hurt, I wasn't in fear, I was kinda numb to the whole thing. Him and I both look back and laugh on it now. Thats when he had to switch it up and put me on room restriction or take the Nintendo away from me. Taking the Nintendo away really hurt.
I guess there's a fine line between abuse and discipline. I don't believe I was abused, although I concede maybe my discipline could have been meted out better.

More Society cutbacks - Society says "screw you" to the publishers yet again
by sir82 inat our service meeting it was announced that there is a change in the manner in which magazines are now to be delivered to the congregations.. up until now, magazines were sent to each kingdom hall via ups.
in years past magazines were sent to each congregation po's home address via ups.. going forward, magazines will be sent only as far as the assembly hall.
it is the responsibility of each kingdom hall to send brother(s) twice a month to drive out there, pick up the magazines, and return.. this of course saves a little bit of money for the society - shipping larger packages to fewer addresses will cost less.. however, what about the expense to the local congregations?.

At our hall, it was that way for quite some time. Our assembly hall is about 45 minutes from the KH. At one point there was no one in the congregation willing to have the magazines delivered to their home. The body at the time didn't want the boxes outside the KH between meetings. I'm guessing due to the weather, unneighborly neighbors, and the KH gate being locked. I think with it locked, UPS would probably dump them in front of the gate. So we would rotate amongst several brothers and drive out to the assembly hall to pick up the magazines and literature. For the past couple years we've had people willing to allow the mags delivered to their personal homes.
Interesting developements the past few years. On a side note, I find it humorous that I find out about WT related letters and matters here before I hear it from my own PO or Secretary.
