Sending good thoughts your way--how did it go?
Love,

today at 3 pm i will take donna to the hospital for her examination.she is putting up a good front but i can tell that she is really scared about the possible outcome.. being a nurse for years, one gathers up a lot of knowledge and she does know a lot about the body and its failures.. she is scared and i am terrified.
her three sons and family will be there also.
so i won't be alone.. my few children in this area are still jw's and do not give a crap about me or donna being ill.. so they won't be there.

tonight was the school/service meeting at the kh, and myself and dedpoet drove there at the end of the meeting to see the po.
we didn't go in the hall, we just waited outside the gates for the po to come out, then i handed him my letter, saying it was to get things over with and save the necessity of a jc.
he didn't ask what it was, i think he knew, especially when he saw dp give me the thumbs up sign, but asked me to reconsider, but i said my mind is made up, i am leaving, and i want it out in the open as soon as possible.
Congratulations, and welcome to the fun part of your life.

it is for me.
i find that when i tell a person exactly how witnesses think and why they believe in things the certain way they do, it feels good!
listening to myself express the craziness of the religion makes me abhor their practices and mind control.
Um, depends on the situation. It's frustrating sometimes to try and explain my upbringing to what I often call "normies," but it can have its good points.
For instance, last night we were all sitting on the porch with our jack-o-lanterns and a big bowl of candy, waiting for trick-or-treaters, when someone suggested telling ghost stories. I had none, but I did tell a few stories of instances when objects were "demonized" in my congregation--and my friends laughed themselves silly. I was a hit.
On the "therapeutic" side, I think any time my experience is confirmed as real by others who've shared it or a similar experience, it makes it easier for me to accept it and move on. It validates my experience, allows me to feel what I need to feel, learn what I need to learn, and get on with the rest of my life. So, yes, it's "therapeutic" for me to talk/share with other x-JWs.

tomorrow is my master's thesis defense.
i've been working on my master's degree in applied linguistics for three years.
i'm really nervous in spite of the fact that the defense has nothing to do with my grade.
Good luck, though the thing to remember is that you know this material inside and out. That's what I discovered at both my thesis and dissertation defenses. The whole point of spending all that time studying and writing is to become an expert, if only in that one small area (mine's Chaucer's Book of the Duchess).
You'll do fine, but I'll send warm thoughts anyway.

i grew up in a "divided household" and i was wondering how many of you had similar experiences to mine.. 1. i was always viewed as fatherless child as a kid.
i wasn't, i had a very involved father, however he was an unbeliever.. 2. i always felt the my decisions in life ultimately meant that i was chosing one parent over the other.
going to college i chose dad over mom.
I particularly resonated with the comment about feeling forced to choose between your parents. I feel like I was the bone and they were the dogs fighting over it. My dad was df'd when I was 8, so to the JWs, he was worse than an unbeliever.
And I was told, at eight, that I could not love both Jehovah and my dad. "A man cannot serve two masters" was the scripture quoted to support this belief. My spiritual life collapsed when I lied at this point; I told them that I chose Jehovah...but I still loved my dad in my heart. That meant I was definitely going to die at Armageddon, because Jehovah can "read hearts."
Fortunately, after years of therapy, I remember how painful this was rather than feeling it anew each time I think of it. And I have to say that I've got a much better relationship with my Dad than with any other family members; I feel like I'm making up for what I deprived him of when I was a child. Of course, my relationship with my mother is a mess.
What's more, they're still married--going on 48 years. I suspect she stayed just to punish him.

i just finished reading this book.
i was really great... and sad.
joy has a great command of the english language and writes beautifully!
Our local ex-JW journalist at the Sacramento News & Review reviewed this one:
In the Mix - Book The Truth Book: Escaping a Childhood of Abuse Among Jehovah's Witnesses |
Don’t let the subtitle scare you off. Joy Castro’s memoir of a childhood spent in an abusive, dysfunctional family is neither an indictment of an offbeat religious sect nor your typical “surviving a hellish childhood” screed. While Castro’s oblivious door-knocking mother, stepfather from hell and self-centered father come in for their share of criticism, the memoir concentrates instead on Castro’s journey from judgment of others to self-blame to self-confidence, and eventually to a literary life. Castro’s got a readable style and a great sense of humor, especially considering the subject matter. There’s enough blame to go around--and she doesn’t let anyone off the hook--but at least in Castro’s story, there’s also a bit of forgiveness.

i have a couple of questions for the research-bunnies on the board--there are so many of you who've spent so much time studying both the bible and jw beliefs, and it's an incredible resource for the rest of us.
i used to know the jw line on some of this stuff, but since i left in my late teens and am now moving into middle age, i've forgotten a lot.. first, i know that the nwt inserts "jehovah" every time the old testament uses the tetragrammaton (yhwh).
my question is, what is the basis/claim they make for inserting "jehovah" into the new testament?
See, I knew this was the right place to ask. You folks are great. I watch and learn.

Hi, all.
I have a couple of questions for the research-bunnies on the board--there are so many of you who've spent so much time studying both the Bible and JW beliefs, and it's an incredible resource for the rest of us. I used to know the JW line on some of this stuff, but since I left in my late teens and am now moving into middle age, I've forgotten a lot.
First, I know that the NWT inserts "Jehovah" every time the Old Testament uses the tetragrammaton (YHWH). My question is, what is the basis/claim they make for inserting "Jehovah" into the New Testament? Since the New Testament was written mostly in Aramaic, it doesn't contain the tetragrammaton, does it?
Second, I seem to recall having read somewhere that "Jehovah" is actually a mis-translation of "Yaweh," which would be what the tetragrammaton is with vowels added. Does anyone have any further information about this, or a suggestion about where I should look for more info?
Thanks in advance for your time. I'm just really curious about how "Jehovah" managed to take over the New Testament for JWs...
Best,
Jankyn
new awake!
magazine is about homelessness.
has the society ever promoted preaching to homeless people?
Here in Sacramento, the JWs who do street witnessing regularly hand out WTs and Awake mags to the homeless folks down on the K Street mall and in front of the library. Don't know why, since it's mostly used for toilet paper. Oh, wait, that's probably the answer.

for those of you who will be disgusted that i even attended the meeting, let alone allow my son to give his first public talk tonight, please, spare me the shouting messages.
i take full responsibility for what i experienced this evening.
yet, i feel the need to share this experience that has me enraged.
(((FindingMyWay)))
You're getting a lot of good support here. Bravo to you for keeping your cool and putting your son first.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: just when I think I've heard it all, the JWs find a way to surprise me. How twisted can they get? Apparently, more twisted than I thought.
Hang in there.
