hey buddy, I learned ttatt at 50 years old and it took 2,3 years to clear my head and decide how to use my life. If you choose, know that there are many, many wonderful people whom you haven't met. Some are amazing, talented, we'll balanced FEMALES without watchtower cobwebs in the brain.

Naturalism is Dead - Why Are Believers Stuck in the Past?
by Perry insigmund freud, karl marx and charles darwin are considered the pillars of modern western thought.
they differed in many ways but had one thing in commonthey were reductionists who claimed that all higher realms of existence could be explained by lower natural causes.
they were the pillars of naturalism.. but their ideas were tested during the twentieth century and found wanting.

Are you as critical of higher education and science as you are of religion?
by EndofMysteries ini am beginning to see a complete unbalanced shift from one end of the spectrum to the other.
i'll use jw's as the example but this would apply to any religion and any person.
if you just accepted the jw teachings unquestionably from the governing body because you felt they were the highest authority on the matter and 'trusted' them before waking up to ttatt you may shift to the other end of the spectrum.

Science is limited by the progress of knowledge to this point. It is moving that barrier, sometimes two steps forward and one step back. For the most part, I have found science to be honest. At least people are free to challenge it, to expand their learning. The fact that theories are tested, challenged, mocked....then eventually demonstrated or shot down is what is important. The right to question.
Religion can't progress.....it is stuck in old documents that old guys interpret and expect others to trust...."we said so"

Governing Body Running Scarred and 12-13-14 "Might Be the End"?
by RottenRiley inthis went bad, i hit click before i could post my thoughts about the fear factor going through our crazy kingdom hall.
the title of this thread was aimed at asking why the governing body is becoming so afraid and demanding the elders and rank and file to put their trust in the dukes of the kingdom hall.
(pslams 146:3).. .

I personally knew this family. This guy was a frequent assembly speaker big shot.
Notice his excuses.
Trouble is, this family are all still "in the troof"

Will this Bible provoke more intense Bible reading and studying or collect dust?
by SanLuisObispoTruthSeeker in.
who read's their bible and actually allows it to speak for itself instead of allowing the masters of the universe to interpret everything.
i am talking about brothers who read what they claim is god's word but have no time reading it..

My Favorite Scriptures When I'm Fearful
by Perry inisaiah 41:13 esvfor i, the lord your god, hold your right hand; it is i who say to you, fear not, i am the one who helps you.. .
proverbs 3:5-6 esv trust in the lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.. .

I want to be as repectful as I can here, but I think Perry inadvertantly described the situation well.
FEAR , fear of bad, fear of death, ....the wish that somebody who cares is watching over and will make all things better.
It certainly is understandable. Fear drives people to religion and then religion uses fear to control people.
The Bible writer claims to quote God 'FEAR ME'

Help needed: JC standards/questions for "Drunkenness"
by respectful_observer ini'm hoping those of you in the jwn community may be able to help me out.
an acquaintance (of legal drinking age) may soon be sitting for jc under the charge of "drunkenness".. to those of you who have direct experience either serving on a jc, or being the subject of a jc related to the misuse of alcohol:.
- could you provide a list of questions that were asked of the accused?.

The tactic largely depends on if you want to stay in the Borg.....I'm assuming that is the case.
Blood Alcohol content is not necessarily considered relevant. The definition of drunkeness is a matter of BEHAVIOR. (Behaving in a drunken manner) Medication could be a factor.
This heavily relies on witnesses, or maybe a DUI, maybe even published in the paper. Several family members saying they repeatedly saw a person drunk is quite different from one person saying that someone was drunk. Absolutely he can face his accusers.
In the end, be cooperative but shocked that anyone would say such a thing and that you will be happy to settle the matter with the offended person. You would never want to give Jehovah a bad name ....blah, blah, blah
