I hope you're feeling better this morning. Nibble on some fruit and veggies, fiber will help to clean out the remains of last night's excess.

Excuse me but I think this whole "test drive" attitude is very shallow and disappointing
I agree. The "test drive" attitude is disrepectful to your partner, and smacks of conditional love: "I want you only if you're good in bed, otherwise forget it!" What's next? "If you love me, buy a bigger house." "If you love me, you'll do what I say to do." Love isn't about what somebody does for you, it's about who they are and their value as a person.
I don't expect today's youth to understand any better than I did at their age; having a teen-aged daughter to worry about brings an amazing clarity to this issue!

Has anyone ever asked a Catholic if they hate us like we are told they do?
by life is to short inevery since i was a little kid all i have heard is how the catholic's hate us, how they persecute us, even beat us in some third world country's.
they insight their members to hate us and pelt us with rocks, tar and feather us, on and on.

Are you asking me now?
The answer is no, I don't hate Witnesses. I think they follow a false, harmful religion, and I hope they will wake up and stop allowing the GB to run their lives. I wish them well, I don't hate them.
I admit that I have no use for the organization and the way it uses and abuses the followers. That "hate" applies to the organization, its teachings and policies, not the people in it. "Love the sinner, but hate the sin."
Witnesses are trained to not make these distinctions. "If you disagree with the WT doctrine, you hate God. If you don't follow the organization, you hate those who belong to it. If you're not with us, you're following Satan and will be anihilated at Armageddon."
I hope they come to understand us, those who see them with the eyes of a parent-of-teenagers: I don't hate you, I'm just worried about you!

When you are debating with a Witness...

you ever stop in your head and say:.

It is as many have said above, a waste of time, can be fun though, and you never know, something may stick.
It may not stick with your opponent, but when the argument is on this forum many lurkers read it, too. Speak with the wider audience in mind, not just the active participants. Stay with sensible reasoning, stay on topic, and be as civil as possible; resist the lure of flame-bait.
(note to self: follow own advice! )

Please do. I hope he's doing OK, I know things were pretty rough for him last time he posted.
Thanks Jamie!

My mom opened up for the first time.
by NomadSoul ini could write paragraph after paragraph to explain the situation, my leaving, my influence on my mom and siblings, etc.. but i will keep it short.. my mom is inactive and she has always liked having conversations with me about almost any topic.
for a long time though she would not touch the subject of the watchtower organization when i brought it up, i could tell she still believed that talking bad about the organization was a sin.. but last weekend we were having our usual conversation that we have now and then.
the topic of religion and god was brought up.

I've read that book. My impression is that it is as much about the author's beliefs (evangelical Christianity) as about Watchtower teachings. I agree he missed the mark, exaggerating the WT position to make his point. That weakens his own argument. It would have been better to simply quote the WT publications, that is much harder for the WT apologists to deny. I understand his motivation, but the presentation isn't as convincing as it could have been.

Language Hijacking and the WTBS
by gubberningbody injehovah's witnesses - this is a claim, not merely a label.
i reject those who adhere to the wtbs as having any legitimate right to that claim and as such this is an example of a language hijack.. .
please add to this list..

Galileo's case was more politically motivated than doctrinal. The heliocentric theory was introduced by Aristarchus (for which he was accused of impiety by the Greeks). Copernicus, who was a priest as well as scientist, published his version about a century before Galileo. Galileo's observations supporting the heliocentric theory and subsequent dispute with Fr. Orazio Grassi of Collegio Romano made enemies of powerful clerics, leading to the inquisition for "vehement suspicion of heresy." Galileo had a public dispute with the powerful, Copernicus was one of them and did not: that explains how publishing the same idea produced two different outcomes.
