You need legal advice for that question, sorry to say. The time that has passed and involving a foreign country makes it a complicated case.

Summing up the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Knowsnothing inif you could describe the jehovah's witnesses, in a sentence (no run-ons please) what would it be?.
.
jehovah's witnesses are mostly harmless; just don't join 'em..

If you quit your job to knock on doors for hours on end, do everything we say, and never complain about it, then you might be eligible for second-class salvation.

Undercover apostates...
by Maze ini've observed some forum users here that claim to be active witnesses (even claims to be ministerial servants or elders) while duplicitously supporting apostates online.
my contention is this; why attend meetings and/or participate in the preaching activity when the second you divulge your apostate thinking into the congregation, you'll be disfellowshipped?
while this action taken may seem to be harsh, the outworking of events wouldn't be much different in one of christendom's churches.

While this action taken may seem to be harsh, the outworking of events wouldn't be much different in one of Christendom's Churches. If I used a Catholic Church as a platform to proselytize I'd quickly be shown the door and asked to leave.
Undercover is not the same as "subversive". The vast majority of undercover "apostates" aren't going to the hall to "proselytize", they're there to be with their families.
If you mind your manners and don't create a disturbance, you're more than welcome at our parish's church. Every Sunday there are unbelievers in the pews, most with their families but some without, and that is no problem. They are not "shown the door", they are not shunned, they are not pressured or treated differently from any other person in the congregation. I hope the same applies at your kingdom hall.

Songs that remind you of your Mum . . .

Today's WT Study Stupidity About Df'ing
by metatron inin today's watchtower study, towards the end, you had one of those typical comments by a former df'ed witness expressing appreciation for being shunned.
these comments always remind me of a stalinist show trial in which the accused enthusiastically accepts being executed for the greater good (probably to save his family).. after this kind of nonsense is expressed, you will get a flurry of self righteous comments emphasizing how important it is to shun your disfellowshipped relatives, so that they can come back in the "truth".. oh, really?
do any of these people raising their hand realize that, if the "success" of disfellowshipping depends on your shunning, then the "repentant" person is "coming back in the truth" for the sake of their relatives -and not because of fearing jehovah !!!???.

They had his DNA on file?
If they had DNA samples from his parents or other relatives, that would be enough to show it was really him and not a look-alike security decoy.

Introducing Myself
by StandFirm inhello to jwn!
this is standfirm.
i mainly post on the topix jehovah's witness forum, but i decided to give it a try over here also.

So, I read a large amount of opposing and apostate material on the internet, a lot of which was here on JWN ... So, it is with this that I introduce myself to JWN. I come here as I came to Topix - to keep my knowledge of the Scriptures and of the organization strong and my defenses the best they can be.
First, Welcome to the forum. Since you have been reading this forum you know what to expect and, I presume, enter willingly. I can't speak for everyone, but if you keep it civil and show respect for others I will do my best to reciprocate in kind.
I appreciate your honesty, saying up front that you are here to be a defender of the Watchtower, rather than playing the part of the naive curious newcomer. That's a good start!

Will you attend the Kingdom Hall for a funeral of parents who are still JW's? If not, do you tell them beforehand?
by ThomasCovenant ini was recently talking to an ex witness whose elderly parents, and in law parents, are still witnesses.. as shocking and incomprehensible as it may seem to both sets of parents, this ex witness believes that, just like every other human throughout human history, they are going to die.
now this ex witness has expressed to me that he won't ever step foot in a kingdom hall again.. he is in a dillemma as to what to do about their funerals.
he does not want to attend any service held at the kingdom hall as the service will be heavily controlled by the seven members of the governing body that reside in brooklyn and who don't know his parents at all.. he is quite willing to stand outside the hall, or attend the crematorium or gravesite or funeral home and also any wake that takes place afterwards as people are more free to express themselves in a less formal setting.

What does the WT tell a Witness to do for a relative's funeral in a church? Stay away!
Watchtower 5/15/2002 p. 28, Questions From Readers:
Q: Would it be advisable for a true Christian to attend a funeral or a wedding in a church?
A: Our taking part in any form of false religion is displeasing to Jehovah and must be avoided. So what is the right thing to do? Go to the KH funeral, show respect for the deceased and sympathy for the family. That is how you show compassion and human decency, regardless of your religious differences.

It is interesting and informative to go back to what was being printed and reported about the DEAD SEA SCROLLs when they were finally in the hands of scholars. THE IRON GRIP of the Catholic church sought to cut off any flow of information to allow them time to spin it--lest they be found caught in an historically indefensible position vis a vis the facts.
That makes no sense, because the Catholic church did not control the scrolls. The Jordanian Department of Antiquities and Israeli Antiquities Authority were the ones controlling access to them, until the Huntington Library made their phtographic copies available to any qualified scholar in 1991. The controlling authorities were upset at this, but once the copies were in circulation further resistance was futile.
“I maintain that what we’re doing is no more than other librarians are doing ever day – collecting, preserving, and providing access” -- Willaim A. Moffet, director of the Huntington Library

You don't have to be female to be offended by his classless act. Preacher man, before you pen another of those sermons, remember this: it isn't all about you! How much of that talk was about glorifying yourself? What happens to "He who exalts himself"? What "cometh before the fall?"
