Saw it last weekend, and liked it. Like most Bond films, reality took a back seat to showmanship. And a good show it was!

New James Bond Film: Skyfall
by leavingwt ini had an opportunity to see skyfall in the theater yesterday.
it's almost as good as casino royale, with some parts of it being even better.
the opening sequence was a real thrill, one of the best.

Badass Female Bible Characters
by Kudra inhi, this thread is inspired by the "bible characters trading cards" thread.... can we come up with a great list of female bible characters that were strong, decisive and inspiring?.
scully mentioned ja'el: drugging and driving a tent spike through the head (we all remember the awesome bible stories illustration) of the enemy general.. list yours along with a description of why they were so badass!.

Judith was a legendary bad-ass. When the male leaders were fearful and ready to capitulate to Nebuchadnezzar's general Holoferenes, she took matters into her own hands. She doffed her widow's garb of mourning and donned her finest clothes, went to the enemy camp "seeking refuge." There she enticed the opposing commander, and his drunken delusion he brought her to his tent thinking she desired him. Instead, she beheaded him with his own sword, returned to the Isrealite camp carrying his head as a trophy. Her taking of Holofernes rallied the Israelite warriors to rout the invaders.
For their mighty one did not fall by young men, neither did the sons of Titan strike him, nor tall giants oppose themselves to him, but Judith the daughter of Merari weakened him with the beauty of her face.

The area of Brooklyn east of the highway, including 124 Columbia Heights, is just beyond the flood zone shown on the city map. Here is a link to a photo of the water level across the river (it's too big to embed here).

Am I wrong for finding this upsetting?
No, not at all. It is upsetting. Parents should be supervising their children, especially ones so young (who should not be out knocking on strangers' doors at all, but let's stay on topic). Whoever organizes the car groups should ensure children have parental supervision, whether or not it is official Watchtower policy.

Need Advice. Quick.
by AwSnap ini apologize for being absent for so long.
i've got a jw at my house right now (unexpectedly) who is talking to my husband.
he keeps on bringing up that only jw's have universal love....that if you go anywhere in the world, you can mention you're a witness & you'll automatically be welcomed and accepted by fellow jw's.

Regarding conditional vs. unconditional love, cite Luke 6:32-36:
For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit [is] that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount.v But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful.

Important Supreme Court Case on Monday
by Hortensia inhttp://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/10/a-supreme-court-clash-could-change-what-ownership-means/.
could bring down ebay, and the selling of used books on amazon, and reselling goods on other sites.
book publishers who sell their textbooks for astronomical prices in the u.s. but much cheaper in other countries are suing entrepreneurs who import the cheaper but identical books and sell them for less.. at issue is whether you own the stuff you buy.

Libraries rely on the first sale doctrine to protect the practice of lending books (and periodicals, audio recordings, videos, etc.) without paying royalties for each loan. From the cited article (emphasis is mine):
"First sale" is the rule that allows owners to resell, lend out, or give away copyrighted goods without interference. Along with fair use, it's the most important limitation on copyright. ... Even libraries are concerned their right to lend out books bought abroad could be inhibited.

The latest attack against the "doctrine of first sale". This also has the potential to hurt public libraries.

I watched it on the little pay-per-view screen on the airplane. Striking out the side to clsoe it out in the tenth inning--what a great game--congratulations, SF Giants!
