This has been a favorite of mine for almost four decades. Sung by Emmylou Harris, with back-ups from Neil Young, Dolly Parton, and Linda Rondstadt.

Just quit quietly - the law is on your side!
by Ajax infreedon of religion guarantees any individual the legal right to abandon any religion at any time for any reason.. if you are a citizen of a country which champions human rights, then your government doesn t care what religion you join, but they will uphold your freedom to join it, without interference, coercion or persecution.
your countries human rights legislation will conversely uphold your rights when it comes time to abandon any religion you so choose.
those (elders) who incite others interfere, coerce or persecute those who have left will be in transgression of the human rights statutes.. a person is only obligated to ecclesiastic law if he exposes himself to it or transgressed it while still a member of a religious community.. when your time comes to abandon the jw-wt cult, do it while still in good standing, be proactive - be decisive -put it in writing!..and do it before the hounders set sights on you.. write a card or letter with as much or as little explanation as you one day might wish to share with pharisees and lawyers.. take this card to a notary public to have your signature witnessed and have the writing overstamped in several places with the date.

Don't get so preoccupied with the DA letter / JC/ DF situation that you neglect something important. See my comment in this thread.

What laws are on your side (in the U.S.) so you can leave quietly
by oppostate inin another topic "just quit quietly - the law is on your side" there was a lot of discussion about how to leave quietly without getting tagged publicly as "no longer a jw".
here are some legal cases that could be used to show support for leaving quietly.. you have to first send a letter saying you're leaving that specific congregation, and that you don't want them to keep records of you.. if the boe says anything against you here are some court cases that make precedent for bringing a suit against them:.
baugh v. thomas (1970).

Opinion: I am not a lawyer, etc.
Don't let the Letter of Disassociation and Judicial Coucil sideshows distract you from attending to the genuinely important business.
Update all hospital and medical records which indicate you are a Witness and follow the "no blood" policy. Those need to be fixed, in case you must be treated while unable to make your own decisions. You don't want the Hospital Laision Committee telling the hospital what medical decisions you have made, and you probably wouldn't want a bedside visit from the elders either.

Want to hear something funny ?
by troubled mind inmy husband just won the city wide holiday light display for christmas i am so proud .
just a few short years ago i was the one that put a strand of white lights around the porch railing ,and a couple of lighted deer in the yard ....that brought the elders around real quick (after three years of silence ) at that time my husband was still holding onto the notion his faith was not bond to a cult .
it didn't take long after the 'loving sheparding call' for him to see things in another light.

Do the witnesses baptize in Jesus name?
by runForever inhttp://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/are-jehovahs-witnesses-christians/.
the third bullet point there claims they baptize in jesus name.
i know the baptism questions never mention jesus once.. .
-
GLTirebiter
No, they do not baptize in the name of Jesus. Nor do they, nor would they, baptize in the manner He taught (Matt 28:19):
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Bicyclists
by poppers ini'm wondering what sort of biking shoes and pedals you are using.
i'm a road biker, so i enjoy speed and distance riding, and am upgrading my shoes and pedals.
anyone have experience with specialized road shoes with the boa stem?
-
GLTirebiter
I used to have those straps that fastened your feet to the pedals and made you lean against lorries at lights.
I left the toe straps slightly loose for city riding, so I could pop the cleat off the pedal at stops. With my first set, there was also the problem of finding a cobbler to install the cleats on my shoes, and who was careful to not nail them on crooked (yes, this was long ago!). Clipless pedals and shoes are a much better solution.

2 Faced JWs and Thanksgiving
by minimus inmany jws enjoy turkey on thanksgiving day and are often discreet about their indulgences.
why be two faced?
why try to excuse it?.
-
GLTirebiter
As the UBM, I was a convenient excuse for having Thanksgiving a big dinner. I bought the bird, and I prepared it and the pumpkin pies (though she did the dressing, potatoes, side dishes etc.). Just don't utter the "T" word, and don't invite the relatives.
As usual, they are willing to "partake" of the superficial holiday trappings, so long as they deny any and all spiritual meaning for the occasion. They can be the most sort of worldly people during the holidays!
