Understanding JW Recruiting Concepts Can Help Others To Leave
by AllTimeJeff inunderstanding jw recruiting concepts can help others to leave.
when i first left jehovah's witnesses (jw's), i was somewhat amused at the sheer amount of anti jw websites out there.
while websites like freeminds.org and jwfacts.com are great, (non hysterical sites that stress fact and presentation over emotional responses), there are at least 5 times as many other sites that act as if you should treat a jw at your door like you would a spreader of the ebola virus.. i don't disagree with the fact that jw's are somewhat dangerous and usually go for the low hanging fruit.

Paradise earth is promoted. Living forever is promoted. A loving brotherhood is promoted. The rest of the JW dogma, other then the basics, aren't consequential.
How true, Jeff! I encountered that when the Ex was trying to enlist me. She saw the brotherhood, the picnics, the assemblies, and the New System (tm) . She didn't worry about dying because of the blood policy or the hypocrisy of damning every religious organization (while being one themselves). She saw only a path to paradise, not the darkness I saw in the Watchtower theology and the organization's leadership.
So arguing about dogmas they don't really think about or attacking the teaching of an organization that constantly warns them to expect persecution is a dead end at best, and often downright counter-productive. It's better to be as good a living, non-threatening counter-example as you can be. Then when the time comes that they have questions and wonder "where else can we go?", they will know they can count on you.

Great game so far! I cringe at an empty net, it's a sign of desperation, but this time it worked!

A bit further north, there's a tsunami advisory for coastal areas of Washington state. The linked advisory for an area particularly vulnerable, because the Long Beach peninsula is long, narrow, low, and has only one two-lane road leading to the mainbland. The blue-and-white warning (in the linked article) is from signs posted along that road.

The Watchtower as morphine: this thread is just begging for a Karl Marx allusion!

Whos smarter, Catholics or J.W.s?
by wheelwithinwheel inas i was growing up my dad would always make a special effort to enlighten his catholic brother-in-law.
hed ask my uncle to get out his catholic bible and show him scriptures.
one of his favourite arguments was the doctrine of the popes infallability.

What is the smarter way to do missionary work? Do you take the time to set up schools, orphanages, clinics, and hospitals to see to the human needs, or do you just build the Kingdom Halls (churches) and a Branch Offices (Cathedral), then tell the locals to "wait on jehovah" to feed the children and attend to the sick? Do you try to make a real difference in peoples' lives, or only sign them up to peddle Watchtower Wares to their neighbors?
The RCC has not been faultless, but their attitude towards charity is a big reason I still respect the Church (and may return some day). Seeing the Watchtower's attitude towards charity is a big reason I will have nothing to do with that organization. Which organization is following the smarter policy?
