A gem of hypocrasy from 1887 Watchtower
by Aussie Oz incame accross this piece from the 1887 watchtower tonight.... have a read... you can see russell criticising the protestants for how they are not allowed to teach anything that is not sanctioned by the church.. sounds mighty familier...and can be mirrored right back at the wt.. watchtower 1887. .
page 923 april 1887 (caps and italics russells and the wt).
nor should we ignore the assistance of any of god's children in seeking an understanding of the scriptures, but we should give attention to them only so far and so long, as they teach and explain the bible, in harmony with the bible.

Adoption...Is it for Christians?
by MinisterAmos ini was taking a stab at writing a wt style headline, so pardon the rhetoric.. anyway, the wife's sister has been a full-on jw and a pioneer since high-school.
her husband is 6-7 years younger than she is.
he was tapped at 25 or so y/o to be an elder, and is a frighteningly serious jw.

Adoption is in many ways the highest example of Christian love, it is the embodiement of Mattew 25:
PSac, well said!
Besides the moral calling to aid the helpless, any religion which opposes abortion (as the WT does) has the ethical duty to encourage adoption of children whose parents lack the means or maturity to raise them.

Im finally leaving my jw husband.
by littlebird insome of you know i have struggled with this for awhile.
i really do believe in marriage and the committment, however, sometimes enough is enough.. his endless preaching at me and calling me and my (adult) children satan has me realizing that this situation is not going to get better.
the other day he kicked my son out of the house for wearing a cap, in his car, with a skull on it.

Yes, get a good lawyer littlebird.
I hope you're finished moving, or will be soon, because he's acting like somebody you wouldn't want to be around any longer than absolutely necessary. If he hasn't been served with separation papers yet, get your move over and done with before that happens, if at all possible. Try to make it a clean break. The sooner you are leading your own life, the sooner healing can start.
Take care of yourself!

What did Jesus mean: "I Am?"
by wannabe inwhat did jesus mean "i am?".
one must marvel at the lack of fear, and respect, false religious teacher's display, today, as they twist and warp jehovah god's marvelous word of truth to support their obvious, warped versions of the truth of god's word.
trying to convince others that jesus was god jehovah in the flesh; while jehovah himself contradicted that belief, as did his own son.

There is much more in John 8 than those two key words, "I Am". This entire chapter is about Jesus' encounter with the scribes and pharisees in the temple. Jesus made several statements about who he was, until they finally understood:
[23] Jesus went on: You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. [24] I have told you already: You will die in your sins. Yes, if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. [25] So they said to him, 'Who are you?' Jesus answered: What I have told you from the outset.
[51] In all truth I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death. [52] The Jews said, 'Now we know that you are possessed. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead, and yet you say, "Whoever keeps my word will never know the taste of death." [53] Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? The prophets are dead too. Who are you claiming to be?'
Now the pharisees are waiting for him to overtly blashpheme (in their view). Jesus responds by quoting Exodus, knowing how the scribes and pharisees will interpret his words. Remember, the Jews did not utter the sacred name, they used circumlocutions to avoid profaning it. "I am" was well known as a reference to God.
[58] Jesus replied: In all truth I tell you, before Abraham ever was, I am. [59] At this they picked up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself and left the Temple.
The scribes and pharisees understood what Jesus meant, the same meaning Christian churches ascribe to Jesus' use of that phrase. He was claiming divinity, something blasphemous in the view of the pharisees. The pharisees reached for stones to execute Jesus for saying those words, "I am", because in that age, in that context, those words meant exacly what traditional Christian teachings ascribe to this chapter of John's Gospel.

WHO ARE THE FALSE PROPHETS TODAY?
by Dogpatch inwho are the false prophets today.
by barbara anderson.
in 1991, one of the watch tower societys senior writers, colin quackenbush, told me in the privacy of his office about letters which the society had received from prominent and credible elders, not apostates (thats exactly what he said), who were concerned about the increase in accusations saying that jehovahs witnesses were false prophets.

Back to topic...
Officers of the Watchtower Society have testified under oath that the Watchtower magazines are the direct word of God, per the court record quoted by the Institute for Religious Research:
Cross-examination of Frederick W. Franz in the case of Olin Moyle v. WTB&TS, 1943, Sections #2596-2597, p. 866.
Q. At any rate, Jehovah God is now the editor of the paper [The Watchtower], is that right?
A. He is today the editor of the paper.
Q. How long has He been editor of the paper?
A. Since its inception he has been guiding it.
Cross-examination of Nathan Homer Knorr in the case of Olin Moyle v. WTB&TS, 1943, Section #4421, p. 1474.
Q. In fact, it [The Watchtower] is set forth directly as God's Word, isn't it?
A. Yes, as His word.
Q. Without any qualification whatsoever?
A. That is right.
So, does the Watchtower claim to speak in the name of God (Deut 18:20-22 , Jer 14:14-16)? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you have heard the leaders say it, in their own words, under oath. We rest our case. -

You don't know who's who on this discussion board. If you think there are active JWs that are undercover apostates, you may try confirming this ludicrous non-sense.

by Gregor inlets say you are enjoying a glass of good red wine while preparing dinner.
you pick up your glass for a sip and see a gnat floating on top.

#2 if I'm wearing my glasses
#3 if not, because I wouldn't see the gnat in the first place
Also, like BTS said, #3 after the first bottle is empty!

I will be happy about not having to walk on eggshells around him anymore... But it still hurts to think 25yrs of marriage is essentually going down the drain.
Littlebird, I understand not wanting to give up after so many years. But when what you have is no longer a real marriage, and your partner shows no signs of wanting to put it right again, then leaving can be the only safe and sane option.
You will learn to live on your own and take care of yourself. It takes time, even for those who have lived independently for years before being married. You will need help: emotional help, legal help, and financial help. The way you're describing the situation, he probably won't be easy to deal with in the months ahead. It sounds like he's a highly controlling type. Now you need to assert your rights, not in the sense of being pushy, but rather not letting him control you any longer.
I wish you the best, Littlebird. There are no winners in this battle, the goal is to be a survivor and get on with the rest of your life. You can make it, after enduring this for 25 years you have more strength than you realize!
