Jotham Article for Children...
by losingit ini am disfellowshipped, separated from my husband, and have been "lurking" for some time.
only because i was so unbelievably lonely for being disfellowshipped, i was missing my "friends" terribly, did i even bump into this site.
i googled "lonely and disfellowshipped" and a stream of experiences appeared on the screen.

Welcome, losingit!
That would make it very hard for you, wouldn’t it?
That sentence is important because it is a logical fallacy [links to pdf], a version of "begging the question". That fallacy relates to questions that presume their own answer. They are presenting the Watchtower's opinions (a parent who "stops worshipping Jehovah" is bad for the family, anybody leaves the Watchtower organization has turned against God, "apostates" should be avoided, etc.) as undisputed facts.
Seeing this manipulation as what it is an important first step in vaccinating yourself against the mind control.

Have You Given Up on JW Friends or Family Ever Seeing The Light And Getting Out?
by minimus ini'm always hopeful but mostly doubtful that they will get out of her..

I've learned to realize that their value as human beings depends on who they are, not what they are. Whether or not they leave does not make them "good" or "bad" people. Whether or not they leave does not make them more or less deserving of love and respect. So I haven't given up on them, but I have given up making their WT status more important than my family members.

My mother wants to see my kids
by mrsjones5 ini decided to call my mother more often at the request of my brother (the parental units have been driving him crazy and my calling more hopefully will decrease the craziness my brother has had to deal with).
so i called her last tuesday and the first thing that pops out of her mouth is she recovering from a weekend of babysitting her "substitute grandchildren" (her exact words and actually my nonjw cousin's children) since she doesn't get to see her own grandchildren.. wonderful .
there are reasons why i don't take my children to my mother's house.

When I asked if she would like to participate in my oldest son's football fundraiser she said she doesn't do charity.
You can't say it any better than she did!

Russell and the Miracle Wheat Scandal
by Wild_Thing inhe truly was a crook, wasn't he?!?
i found this article on the brookly daily eagle website reminiscing about this scandal.
evidently, the newspaper outed him on this scheme and printed a cartoon of russell and his miracle wheat, and so russell sued them and lost!

This BBC article reminded me of the "miracle wheat" incident. Unlike Russell's snake oil, this will be tested before it goes on the market.
British scientists say they have developed a new type of wheat which could increase productivity by 30%.
The Cambridge-based National Institute of Agricultural Botany has combined an ancient ancestor of wheat with a modern variety to produce a new strain.
In early trials, the resulting crop seemed bigger and stronger than the current modern wheat varieties.
It will take at least five years of tests and regulatory approval before it is harvested by farmers.

"Shunning a myth":
- It's a myth that a disfellowshipped witnesses wouldn't be invited to her brother's wedding (the invitation would be sent shortly before the event, so if the DF'd sister can afford a next-day plane fare and can find an available seat on a busy weekend, she might even be able to accept that invitation on such short notice).
- It's a myth the disfellowshipped sister wouldn't be allowed into the Kingdom Hall if the last-minute travel arrangements came through. (She could enter moments before the ceremony starts, sit in the last row to avoid stumbling others by scandalously sitting with the rest of the family, and is expected to leave promptly the moment the ceremony ends).
- It's a myth that the disfellowshipped sister would be completely ignored at the reception. There could be some "urgent family business" that would allow at least a moment of interaction. (Accepting a gift, for example: a wedding being one of the few times Witnesses are allowed to give and receive presents.)
Watchtower-sanctioned shunning is not mythical, it is legendary!

JULY 15th Study Watchtower - NEW LIGHT IS FANTASY
by The Searcher inthe july 15 study watchtower uses all 4 study articles to try to inculcate into every witnesses' mind that the governing body is indisputably god's sole channel of communication on earth.
to do so, it uses a multitude of scriptures along with seriously flawed un-inspired reasoning.
the foundation stone of this watchtower's blatant agenda is the claim that when jesus used only a few to dispense the physical food to the many, he was setting a principle which would be applied to the distribution of spiritual food after he returned to heaven.

I dont get the article, because its circular. Its an article that tells you to read articles from them about artciles written by them about reading artciles from them...
Citing your own work as supporting references is a sign of poor research (as in "none") and shoddy scholarship. The only time I heard my ex-brother-in-law give a talk at the Kingdom Hall it was hard to keep a straight face; the entire outline was a series of quotations from other Watchtower articles and talks.
