A WTS prophecy that actually came true in our time...
by dozy ini used to have friends that worked in the department that dealt with news release at assemblies and we always had a chuckle at the press releases that were carefully scripted with the usual fill in the blanks (bethel speaker , attendance , number of baptised etc) for distribution to the local newspapers.. most responded by carefully filing the press release in the b (for bin) file , but some newspapers print the press release in full.
i couldn't help but laugh at the one for the 2009 district assemblies which helpfully includes the observation that the audience broke out in spontaneous prolonged applause at the conclusion of the assembly.
this does seem quite remarkable considering that it was written in a press release written many months before the convention actually took place.

For those who researched 607...
by AwSnap indid you use wt dates as well as things found from a secular perspective?
if a witness was researching the 607 dates strictly from watchtower info, would it still become clear they are wrong?
or does the wtbs *make* the dates add up...?

Awesome, thanks. I'm okay if I go to outside sources that tell me which WT literature to look at, but the jw I'm dealing with won't. So maybe I can check out the link provided, and act as if I just *found* it through the WT CD ROM
Iquit...I see why you said what you did (TRUST ME, I see what you're saying ). I guess the point is: do I want to have a , not even trying to discuss stuff like this and losing the ones I love the most ?
Or, do i choose to discuss according to their beliefs & have the self dignity and self love (not in a "i touch myself" kinda way) when they still choose to ditch me for their god? At least I will know I have tried. Of course, I don't want to go into it blindly. Hence, the reason I asked you all.
Like I said, I haven't even done the research for myself, so I like the idea of counting backwards, although I have a hard enough time counting forwards...or counting at all.

Interesting, thanks leavingwt. I think I have heard that before & can probably incorporate that info at some point.
Has anyone researched the 607/586 debate through the WTBS literature only and found that 607 is not supported?
(I typed that big & bold for the future people who want to comment, not to those who have already) I really don't want to turn this into a thread about which date is correct.
That's all I'm asking. At this point, any details will go totally over my head. I plan on doing it step by step in the future.
Ohhhhh, I see Psacramento, I see what you're saying. I think you & WT have answered my question. (I was hoping for a "yes", hehe) Thanks

Psacramento...I'm not asking for details. I promise
Ok, let me rephrase: Has anyone researched the 607/586 debate through the WTBS literature only and found that 607 is not supported? I'm not trying to get a debate going on who is right or wrong. I haven't done the research yet, but I'd like to with a fellow JW who will only look at jw official literature

Was that coming straight from the Society or did it come from one of Jehovah's Witnesses? I'm not sure that was the answer I was looking for if it hasn't come straight from the Society (however, I will read it). I don't think the Witnesses I'm speaking with are willing to look to the internet for help. They probably only want to use WT official literature.

If theres no God why the earth, the brain the universe? (Atheist and Agnostics)
by cyberjesus in(this question is directed to all the atheist and agnostics in the forum only).
i like most of the people here believed in a god who created us and the earth.
it was easy to explain the reason on many things like the degrees of inclination of the earth, the existance of water in our planet, the existance of an atmosphere, they joy in all the senses, the clear superiority of the human beens versus all other animals, the posesion of a brain who attempts to explain itself.

Christmas & JW objection
by Luo bou to injw's reject christmas because of its pagan origins.
it's not what it meant to people in the distant past that matters but what it means to us living today.

September 22, 2003, Awake!, page 24 , 'The Piñata - An Ancient Tradition' :
"We found that for many people in Mexico, the piñata has lost its religious significance and is considered by most to be just harmless fun...A main concern is, not what the practice meant hundreds of years ago, but how it is viewed today in your area. Understandably, opinions may vary from one place to another. Hence, it is wise to avoid turning such matters into big issues." -

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 12-27-09 WT Study (LOVELESS WORLD)
by blondie in--read 1 john 3:16.. comments.
q 18, 19. how should we view any counsel that we receive from a christian friend, and what example did the ephesus.
why not the david example here...david's servants and family had to know.. q 21. what will all of us do at times, but why is it vital that we maintain strong friendships in the congregation?.

I think the way you formatted this thread is a bit different than you have in the past...I really like the way you have it here. It was easier to follow and understand. I'm so glad you do this so that I know exactly what my family is hearing at the meetings. Considering the thought provoking things I've been able to mention to the fam regarding scary evil wordly friends who happen to be some of the most caring and wonderful people EVER, I really hope this lesson will help them think about their own lives. Maybe they'll look at the people they work with and see the contradiction with this article (I happen to know who my family works with and they are ALSO not scary or evil)

Pioneering !
by iknowall558 inquestion :.
why is 'pioneering' a 'privilege' when every jw goes out in ministry anyway.
even those who have lost privileges, or been disciplined, or been reinstated after being disfellowshipped are still expected to go out in the ministry.

you scared me....I thought you'd changed your evil ways to go back . That's funny you mentioned this because I was just talking with somebody yesterday who said this exact thing happened to her. She lost all her priveledges in the hall, but they told her she needed to be out in service. I've never experienced this personally, but can definitely picture it happening
