What Drove Me Here

*disclaimer* this was posted on a 2 year old thread and a friend suggested i start a new thread with it to introduce myself.. .

i discovered this site by accident when i was actually looking for a site to date ex jw's (probably because i know that we could relate and if they were as repressed as me growing up, they would be as horny and kinky as i am if not more so - yumm!).

i also believe that he will take care of all things in his own way.

Thanks Cyberjesus. For clarification, Crisis of Conscience was written by Ray Franz, and the book brings clarity and positive vibes. ....maybe not so much for team jw's....but helps you along in your journey.

Combatting Cult Mind Control & Releasing the Bonds were written by Steven Hassan. The first one mentioned helped me see that the Witnesses are not unique at ALL, and showed me just how similar they are to other high control groups. Whether you are comfortable calling the JW's a "cult" or not, it's a must read...and it's interesting that Steven never even mentions the jw's in Combatting Mind Control; so the similarities are even MORE astonishing! (he didn't realize the jw's fit into the 'cult' category at the time of the 1st book)

I just finished this http://www.foodincmovie.com/ movie. I can't say I'm shocked...but it definitely reinforces the way I feel about this topic. I did learn some new, interesting facts. And when I say interesting, I mean disgusting & repulsive.

I try to focus on positive literature nowadays that encourages positive thought patterns. I read many business related books,and have written a few myself. I figure I have released the bonds and no one controls my mind anymore except myself (and I am LOVING it). That's an awesome outlook.

I am (oBviously) far from being a Bible scholar. I asked the question in case I ever brought it up to my jw. You all have very interesting viewpoints...not sure I agree, but it's definitely marinating.

I think everybody gets screwed up one way or another. We all suffer and we all have our traumatic stories...we just have to figure out how to get over it. But this video was seriously a blast from the past and made me want to vomit.

hehe...you need to be more careful with the limited posts you have. Interesting story. Have you read Crisis of Conscience or any of Steven Hassan's books (Combatting Cult Mind Control or Releasing the Bonds)?

i have debated about doing this for a while (i still don't even know if the pics will show up good enough) coming across sir82's "insider" notes got me looking through my stuff today, and i thought i would share a few of the letters with you.. i also do this for another reason: i know occasionally, that "trolls" (so called) come and go, and people here get worried or upset.

i don't worry at all, i personally think they aren't here to "save" any potential lurkers, they just come here to tick us off.

but i also realize that some authoratative information might help to ease some concerns.

I meet with my non-jw aunt today

we meet for lunch and i told her i didn't want to be a jw anymore.

she already suspected that this was the reason i wanted to meet with her.

she was very supportive and even invited me to thanksgiving dinner.

you have taken a very big step...following what you know is right in your heart . I had a similar experience with an aunt and uncle...they opened their arms and hearts to me 8 years ago and it meant the world to me. You did the right thing (but, of course, you already know that ). You'll be on this journey for the rest of your life...best wishes!
