Democrats WANT Babies to Die
by AwSnap inhahahahaha!....i heard this from a jw today!
they said, "i don't know which is which, but one of them is more conservative (i said 'i think that's republicans) and tend to do things more along the lines of the bible.
and then the other party (democrats) is kind of wild and pushes for abortions and gay marriage.

BTW, I set'em straight by saying that it's not that democrats WANT abortion and gay marriage...but they feel like it's wrong to take away an idividual's decision to do so. That's right.....right?

Would you call me an apostate?
by AwSnap in....or be worried that i was 'checking out apostate sites' if a scenario like this happened?....
let's say theres a birthday for a loved one in my jw family.
i have been out of the troof for a very long time but rarely make comments that disagree with their beliefs.

Thanks Palmtree! OTWO...I suppose I just have to say "so be it", although I may need an ambulance when this is done
There's just some things I can't let go, and having a precious child miss out on their birthday for no good reason is one of them. I feel confused because people say you're supposed to play on their emotions to get them out. I just don't know how to do that without bringing in doctrine or Bible verses.

I'm gonna send it. I went to my sibling's house this morning and the baby was Soooo happy to see me. I just couldn't help myself. I said, "hey could I see a bible for a minute?" After looking up 2 Kings 9:30, I asked who Jezebel was, a pagan or a follower of god? I handed the Bible over & ____ read it, then looked at me puzzled. I said, "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I've made a mistake. I sent ______ an E-birthday card and it won't arrive till Saturday, but it mentions something about this scripture." ______ was like, "okayyyyy"..... So now at least they'll think I'm remorseful for sending the card, but at least they'll see where I'm coming from; and yes, I could've deleted it, but I've decided that baby will be getting birthday cards from me.

The disconnect effect
by truthseeker inthis is kind of hard to put into words.
i have faded for over a year now and have moved on with my new life.. i still have friends and family who are jws that i care for very much.
i don't say anything to them about jws and they don't know i no longer believe and miss meetings.. i am in contact with them because they are nice people even though they would shun me in a heartbeat if they found out about me - but - this is where it gets tricky.... i find the more things i do that are in opposition to jw rules and regulations, nothing bad mind you, the more disconnect i feel towards my jw relatives and friends.

Can you give a good example of "chipping away at those areas" as jwfacts just said? I've been going through something similar, and hear 2 different things: "Don't argue the Bible with them" and "Don't argue the Doctrine"...but then I've also seen exactly the opposite opinion. Can you list some examples? Like, if they say "I love the truth for the fellowship", or "I love the truth for the structure, love, having similar beliefs with people, etc"... Where would you go with that?

What's Your View on Tipping?
by minimus intypically, i give at least 20% on my total bill.
if the service or the waitress is especially charming, maybe more.. i wonder, when you sit at a bar/restaurant and have a meal and drinks and then order a take out ( i do this for my mother quite often) are you supposed to tip on everything, including the takeout??.
when i stay in a hotel, i typically leave 2 or 3 dollars per day for the maid.

I couldn't agree more, LightCloud.

We're all entitled to our opinions, aren't we? I'm not calling anybody names....I wasn't calling anybody here a cheapo. It's just that people become waiters and waitresses for various reasons, mainly to make $$$. In my area, I think minimum wage is only $3 bucks an hour....
I see what you're saying about the entitlement thing, and I guess it sort of IS to an extent. It's a generally accepted thing to eat out and tip 15% if you receive good service. I was a kickass waitress and usually made 20% but never expected 20%....a person becomes a waiter, and hopefully does all they can to make the customer's experience awesome. Those are my keywords here...I never expected something for nothing...I was dedicated to my craft, and always heard "ohhhh you make such a great waitress!" <---eyerolling because, at the time, a waitress was all I was ever gonna be according to the cult...but that's a whole different thread. It just really sucks when 3 separate groups of people come in and decide it's just not their "thing" to tip well. I've had that happen before and it's really depressing, especially when you have a car payment or rent due and you KNOW you've done a good job. Know what I'm saying?
Sammieswife, of course I don't know you personally and wasn't trying to attack you ...I think there was a sentence that caught my eye that reminded me of MANY situations & started my rant. Apologies if I sounded like you were the reason for my rant.
last week while I was out, I got charged $4.00 for a cup of coffee - refused to buy another cup the next day and instead I ordered a glass of water. I did however leave an appropriate tip - even when the waiter disappeared twice and we had to ask someone to go find him twice just so we could get some service. Even when the waitress slapped my food in front of me and scurried away and I couldn't find her for another half hour as I wandered around the tables looking for silverware and salt. <---this would be a PERFECT example when a 10% tip WOULD be appropriate... $hitty attitudes do not deserve the customers hardearned $$$.

A question for all ex jws AND JW's here, btw I'm new too
by EndofMysteries inso far quite dissappointed from what i've seen.
this is very very important, first i"ll address the non/ex jw then i'll address the jw's (jw's scroll down if don't wanna see the first part).
i see so many who have concluded that it was not 'god inspired', a lot of what is being done, and their conscience told them that many things conflicted with jesus teachings and the bible.

you dress worldly, party like worldly people, drink like them, because 'everyone' is doing it. Not sure if you are trying to speak the jw lingo or if you really haven't escaped the cult mentality. Personally, I do not use the word worldly unless I am speaking positively of someone who knows all about and travels the world.
Oh, and check this out if you ever get the chance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNf-P_5u_Hw
