There's no way I could do it. Maybe I could for the first couple of times. I have no problem faking it with people who don't have my best interests at heart (ie- elders who'd jump at the chance to df me). But as soon as I got close to anyone, I couldn't fake it.

How easy is it to pretend to be a spirtual JW?
by highdose infor arguements sake, lets say you walk into a hall where you are not known and introduce yourself as one of them, how easy would it be to pass yourself off as a fully paid up devout dub?.
i reckon i could do it even now, pull out a doudy dress, look misarble, say all the right things and thanks to jwn i'm in the know about all the most recent developments.

Yesterday's WT
by WalkTall inthe whole wt yesterday, which was supposed to be about love, actually centered on how we should react to 'persecutors'.
it was horrible to hear the audience comments...calling 'worldly people' everything from 'they are unkind and mean' to them being 'hateful and unneighborly'.
i sat there and thought about how this 'us vs. them' mentality is the very thing that is contributing to the divisive and separatist world we live in.

I appreciate your sharing this. I am currently in the process of *trying* to show my jw that "worldly folk" are not terrible at all. Or evil. I've asked my jw to look around at the people at work. and their neighbors (who are VERY sweet). and ME. And people who do volunteer work to help hungry people find food.
While the jw keeps coming back to me with silly retorts, I pray that the harsh/hateful things they say at the meetings will one day ring a bell. I hope one day, love will be the winner.

That would be funny if he started posting on here one day...."hi. I'd like to introduce myself. I was a postman who delivered gazillions of apostate mail to this one lady...she really got me thinking with all those postcards sent to her & now I'm out of the cult!" Its nice to dream, isn't it?

Holiday time were you sent to the library or not?
by restrangled inthere are many generations of xjws here.
i'm curious as to what happened to you in school.. were you sent to the library during festivities, allowed to stay home, or allowed to participate?
enter the years if you can and the number of jw's with you.. mine: mid 1960's to mid 70's.

I had to go to the library during birthday parties and any other festivities. During Valentine's Day one year, I came back to find about 20 Valentines on my desk and I felt guilty for not participating. In high school, my father was the in-school disciplinarian and I had to go to *his* classroom for things like pep ralleys. There was one other jw in school with me & I was so embarrassed to be associated with her. She was the type who'd go up to the coolest boy in school and say "Now if you were driving and your car starting make a loud, unusual sound, would you turn up the radio and keep driving or would you find a solution to the problem?"(do you remember that analogy?it was s'posed to lead into jw talk, but I cant remember how)

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?
by DubR inhiya guys and gals.
im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

go on and share the lie of Santa Clause to their little ones? That just seems messed up. (yes, I know I took a portion of your sentence and you were just asking instead of stating this as your own thoughts)Try going into the children's section at the library...its ALLLLL about fantasy and *false* characters. It expands their imaginations. I believed Cinderella, Superman, and Wonder Woman were real when I was a child. When I found out they werent I wasn't traumatized. In fact, I felt proud that I was a *grown up* (at the ripe old age of 7) and didnt believe that stuff anymore. It's part of a small child's life to be filled with imagination and fantasy.
Someone else pointed this out above and I agree: While Christmas may have been rooted in pagan practices (which I no longer think is scary either since pagans are simply people who are not christians) , that isn't what is means today. In fact, Xmas means different things to different people. For me, its a time to spend with family who understands the meaning of unconditional love. "Why not do that everyday instead of one day a year?" some may ask. My answer: its not realistic. My family lives all over the U.S. ....why fight it? Slip on your pagan wedding ring, take the pagan pinata hitting stick outta your a$$, and put on a Santa suit.
