  i just finished a marvelous book - "life after death" by dinesh d'souza.

  he is an articulate and clever christian apologist who comes up with creative argumentation against atheism and nihilist thought.

  while i do not agree with all his conclusions (and i wonder if his reasonings on life after death are a better defense of buddhist ideas rather than christian), i do highly recommend his work.

  The JWs are on the trail end of almost everything... I'm amazed when I think about how thoroughly a lot of their arguments have been debunked.

  Sarcasm versus irony

  for years i have tried to understand the difference between sarcasm and irony.. sarcasm is "the lowest form of wit", some say.

  but irony is funny, or intellectual, somehow superior?.

  recently i began to really understand sarcasm and why it is so very ugly.

  Irony is not a form of humor. Something can be funny because it is ironic, but not all things ironic are funny.

  It can be debated that sarcasm is a type of irony. Sarcasm can actually be quite funny at times. This sign is both sarcastic and hilarious.

  Stephen Hawking has never been very religious as most theists would view it, and at worst could have been called deist, pantheist, or agnostic. This statement really isn't a major reversal for him.

  Meeting topics that cover sex

  occassionally the mr will say that "some visitors are shocked because we will talk about sex, even with children in attendance.

  " what exactly are they talking about in these meetings.

  things like "don't masturbate" or things like if you position yourself like this, and your woman like this while having sex, then you're fornicating?.

  They haven't completely ignored child abuse... There IS the (very) occasional Asleep! article and one must not forget the local needs talk about the sexual predator lurking in the congregation and how you need to be careful, but things had been "handled within the congregation".

  There was this one sister in my old hall that would get this pinched look on her face when talking about oral sex, emphasizing the words with a disgusted tone and making a cupping motion with her hands. It was kind of disturbing.

  back in the 1st century, when iraneus said that many words can equal 666, including latinos and titan, that spending much time to get them is pointless until it's actually taking place, and it will just serve as a 'confirmation'.

  they also didn't have computers and could spend forever trying to come up with every possible scenario.

  we can easily, with the right resources do that fairly easily.

  Where are you going to get your dictionary? A lot of the combinations will be completely meaningless, and it might be faster to go through a dictionary sequentially. Also, why English and Greek, and not Hebrew, Latin, Aramaic, or Italian? What if God mispells a word?

  If you get a dictionary, what format will it be in, and are you planning on going through the words recursively or have different functions for every word length?

  What type of characters are you using? Is it perhaps possible that the number 666 is based upon the unicode for the characters, as opposed to normal numerology? Or perhaps the offset from the beginning of the character set which contains the alphabet.

  yes witness theology claims that 2 people {regardless of sex} left alone in a room will start bonking.....does this happen all the time in real life???

  maybe in a penthouse magazine!

  i have never heard of two people say, stuck in an elevator or broken down bus getting so hot and bothered that they start bonking....it's completly nuts.

  I think it might... It took me a while outside the Lie to realize that women didn't want sex the second they were alone with you. They tell you so much that you're expected to have sex when you're alone with someone that eventually that's exactly what happens.

  will the recent km counsel prohibiting the circulation of personally taped talks make posting them on youtube a violation of "fair use"?.

  No, it wouldn't be covered by fair use... not that that should stop us.

  The Washtowel organization is the sole owner of the copyright for their outlines and control the dissimenation of said outlines. You might, however, be able to get an exception if you yourself give the talk from a legally obtained outline and then record it for some sort of online "christian ministry". Also, you can reproduce parts of it for criticism.

  The thing about fair use, though, is it only protects you AFTER you get sued.

  Speaking as a music major myself, the purpose of music and similar degrees where you don't necessarily need a college education is not so much to give instruction as it is to give experience. To get into a college of music or conservatory, you have to already be a proficient performer, and the degree doesn't represent the knowledge you've gained so much as the fact that you have a lot of experience in that field. Said experience is virtually impossible to get outside of a school setting.

  Hospitality and Tourism, on the other hand, confuses me... Though I once had an interesting conversation with someone that was majoring in eco-friendly tourism for her Master's degree.

  Also... why would anyone major in Spanish? You would think it would be better to take get a minor and maybe study abroad in Spain...

  Music Majors for the win.

  Some of these seem a bit biased. For instance, Elementary Teachers and Social Workers should be paid more.
