Just because our deity uses a hammer doesn't mean that we do as well. I prefer to meet my opponents with my bare hands or an axe.

Oh those Thor-worshippers and their hammers . . . .
by cedars inas i've said many times on this forum, the fictional character of thor is a dangerous and violent person who clearly does not know how to handle a hammer safely or responsibly.. to set the record straight, here is an instructional video on how to use a hammer safely.. i feel it's important to spread this information in order to raise awareness that hammers are intended as tools for making things, and not as weapons with which to bludgeon your foes to death.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5ogimmz8uw.

think i'm becoming an atheist
by rather be in hades ini was just thinking about how often i prayed when i was going downhill.. now i subscribed wholeheartedly to the 'don't pray for bullshit requests' concept, so at first i rarely prayed.. starting around middle school, 9/10 i prayed for friends.
didn't really pray to stop the teasing, my fists did some of that and besides...racism isn't/wasn't jehovah's fault anyway and i can't pray for that to end when he allowed the witnesses to suffer in ww2.. through high school, same issue and then when i started pioneering and hanging out with some of the other witnesses, those prayers prayers for friends intensified cuz they were asses.. but they were dominated by the prayers to love god starting around 15. i didn't want to read the magazines, despite how much i love reading.
didn't want to stdy the lessons, didn't want to plan my presentations, though i did enjoy giving the talks and crafting them.

Congratulations... Though you may want to read up on the subject. There is a lot to read about the question of whether there is a God or not.

YOU have the power to eradicate evil in the world. How would you accomplish this?
by jam inyou alone have the power to eradicate the evil in the world.. where would you start?
you get rid of the lowest of scum in.
the world, mass murderers, child molesters, rapest, anyone that.

If I had that amount of power, I would offer universal health care, legalize drugs and prostitution, make sure everyone has access to adequate food, lodging, and education. That would eliminate almost all "evil" in the word. Legalization of drugs and prostitution would destroy the drug and sex trades. Adequate food, lodging, health care, and education would drastically decrease crimes related to poverty. You could also remove the profit motive for white collar crimes by going to a completely socialist system, but the risks of that solution would be greatly outweighed by the benefits.
People generally turn to crime for profit or necessity. If you eliminate the motive, you eliminate the crime.

Jerry Springer & Shows Like His
by minimus indo you ever watch it?
have you ever been on a show like that?.
where do they get these people?
-
TheClarinetist
Who/where are these people??
Well, I personally know someone who slept with a mother and her daughter at the same time, someone who's son attempted to seduce her, someone who ran away at 15 with a 30 year old man who had threatened to kill his girlfriend if he didn't dump her, someone who lost their virginity at 9... and that's without including the prostitutes, strippers, and/or drug addicts I knew from High School.

They get the people from all over... That's why they can find such weirdos. Power of numbers. LOL. Its not all weird, though... There's a lot of coaching that goes on. I can totally believe some of the crazy stuff that they headline, though.

Anonymous Message to Watchtower
by jwleaks inhttp://www.bit.ly/jwleaks-anonymous.
hello citizens of the world.
we are anonymous.. dear brothers and sisters,.

TheClarinetist
I don't know... Anonymous deals more in cyber attacks and demonstrations... Getting that list would take infiltration and espionage. Still... I expect we'll see something in a couple years from this... possibly. Probably not anytime soon.

Are we completely sure Trans people don't just have a mental disorder?
by Lore inso i thought i was a pretty accepting person.
sure i grew up in a bigoted cult who hates gay people.. now i'm an atheist who has no reason to care about anyones sexual prefferences.. .
but i've watched inverviews of trans people.
-
TheClarinetist
Yes, it is a mental disorder... but that doesn't necessarily mean that we should prevent people from getting gender reassignment. For that matter, I don't see a strong argument against amputating someone's hands, except to the extent that it prevents them from living as a normal human being...
...actually, that's probably the important part. Transgender people can function normally in society, and aside from their gender identity, are perfectly normal individuals. Therefore there is no reason to deny them their desires, desires which only help them to function better.

Atheists: Lowest Retention Rate Next to JWs
by breakfast of champions inarticle found here.. .
those who grow up in an atheist household are least likely to maintain their beliefs about religion as adults, according to a study by georgetown university's center for applied research in the apostolate (cara).only about 30 percent of those who grow up in an atheist household remain atheists as adults.
this "retention rate" was the lowest among the 20 separate categories in the study.. there were 1,387 atheists (weighted) in the survey.
-
TheClarinetist
Actually... it didn't take very much to show that the article was wrong. According to their source, 70% of Atheists change denominations. That's where the 30% number comes from. However, another 20% change to other types of non-religious, which would put the retention rate up to 50%.

I've downloaded the data set and am looking into it, as I believe the source from the article is biased.
EDIT: Finding software is going to be a b*tch, so I may have to give up... But I'll at least make a valient effort.
