I get relatively regular visits from a local older couple that my mother sicced on me. They're nice enough, but I try to make a point to not be home when they get here.

When Was The Last Time "The Friends" Checked Up On You? Spiritual or Social Visit?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini know of two couples who left the congregation i faded from, they two have never received a shepherding call, i was usually the one who came by with food or offered to help clean their homes.
most of you are beyond this like i am, this goes to the new members arriving here who might think the "friends" are coming to check up on them.
the elders in my former hall were too much into drinking and eating, average body weight was 265lbs with pumpkin shaped bodies.

Who plays video games?!!
by DATA-DOG inany gamers out there?
i love a good game.
to me a great game is like a great book!

I. LOVE. VIDEO. GAMES.
Personally, I play a lot of Pokemon (competitively or just for the fuck of it, depending on what mood strikes me). My fiancee and I are really looking forward to X and Y. We play a lot of other stuff too, and have between the two of us an NES, SNES, Wii, PS2, PS3, XBox, XBox 360, DS Lite, and 2 3DSes. Right now we're playing though Heavy Rain together, and I like the Elder Scroll and Final Fantasy series (as cliche as that might sound)/
Oh, and on the Zelda front, if you haven't already, you should check out 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's in homage to the original Legend of Zelda that's a lot of fun (and extremely difficult).

Is the grass greener on the other side?
by What Now? inhi all.... so my mom phoned me up this morning and said she needed to talk to me about something.
she asked me whether or not our (worldly) family thought that my husband and i were witnesses anymore.
one, someone in my family said to her, "i didn't know you guys wear short dresses like that" - commenting on a slightly above the knee dress i had worn to a family event.

The Witnesses are not special. There are many, many groups out there who behave morally as the JWs would define it [and on that note, as you are leaving the religion, you really need to discover for yourself what moral behavior is. Some things aren't all black and white].
Personally, my parents were pretty liberal for Jehovah's Witnesses. My dad was inactive for most of my life, and my mom was just struggling to raise two boys basically on her own. Despite that, though, I spent most of my developmental years terrified, depressed, and suicidal. The inundation of threats of death and destruction and fear which Jehovah's Witnesses get is not healthy for any child, and there is no sure way that you can both participate in the culture and protect them from those influences.
By the way, my experiences outside of the religion have been extremely difficult, but I have never been happier in my life even with all my problems.
Research other religious groups, and even religion itself. Make an informed decision, and don't let the "we're God's chosen people who are different than everyone else" mentality affect your decision.

Any successful musicians out there? I need some advise please
by WillowTrees ini've compeleted some songs that are extremely raw/catchy/and different.
you've probably heard it before, i'm sure as many people hear things like this before in the industry.. .
i need some guidance.
-
TheClarinetist
Not in the industry, but a thought: If you haven't done it already, post it on YouTube and sell it on iTunes. You still own the music, and it'll get your music heard, and possibly even bought.
Also, if it is already on YouTube, link please.

''Spiritual high(TM)'' after an a$$emb£y anyone?
by punkofnice ini remember having been to a convention or a$$emby for however many days and when i came back i didn't want to go back to work/school because i felt on a buzz.. what was that all about????.
any ideas?
anyone else get that?.
-
TheClarinetist
I think "high" is exactly the right word. Post assembly, your brain is bathing in a feel-good chemicals. Personally, though, I'll stick to marijuana. More feel good, less brainwashing.

Obamacare and how it affects JWs
by Rattigan350 inwhile i think that obamacare is bad for forcing people to get health insurance by penalizing them for not having it; it is going to hit jws hard.. so many brag on the assembly parts that they quit corporate jobs to pioneer, but they don't get insurance after that.. there are many that are pioneer couples or single pioneers that are just doing small jobs like cleaning that can't afford insurance, so they don't get it.
they will want to be obedient to caesar and have to get it next year, straining their budgets.
or if they don't get it, they will have to pay the penalty.. we will see how that plays out next year..
-
TheClarinetist
The penalty was struck down as unconstitutional by the supreme court, last I heard. You can pay it, but it's optional. EDIT: Can't find a source on that, so I probably just misunderstood something.
What I expect to hit the JWs hardest is, part time workers are being limited to 27 hours a week because any more and the company they work for has to pay for health insurance for them (that's what I was told by my boss, so may not be 100% accurate)

So, What Did You Get For XMas?
by minimus ini got a few items of clothing, candy, a brand new mattress and boxspring, tea scented cologne and tea scented soap.. what did you recieve??
(good or bad).
-
TheClarinetist
Lots of candy, new work shoes to replace my worn out ones, and just enough money so that my fiancee and I can actually pay rent and utilities for this coming month. Not too bad of a haul, considering.
