  God's will or free will?

  i've heard many people tell me about bible prophesy.

  if the bible can predict future events then it stands to reason that those events are predetermined and man has no choices in this world.

  think about all the choices you've made in your life and how different life for you would be if you had done things differently.

  This thread is an example of what a good discussion board can do. Thinker, thank you for starting such a thought-provoking topic, and thanks to everyone for adding their comments. Topics like this ALWAYS brings intense feelings to the surface because it allows and encourages us to question everything. I can't imagine intelligent parents being upset with children who question; surely a higher power can do no less.

  I have nothing to add that hasn't already been posted except to express my personal thanks for ALL willing to go beyond the safe zone, and into the unknown. That's new territory for many of us, and it takes courage. For any who have not read all of these posts from beginning to end, do yourself a favor and enjoy the ride. Bartender, whatever larc is drinking, I'll have two!

  wow, looking at the post list i can hardly believe my eyes.

  looks like the list of names from 'old' h2o!.

  i just found a site where david yoder describes the amish culture in great detail.

  it is fascinating to get an inside view of their world.

  I've spent a few hours pouring over some of the information on the Amish Web site. It's outstanding! I'll post some comments when I finish reading it.

  As a side note, I know a crisis worker at one of the area hospitals. She has had some dealing with Amish clients (they seek her services without the Amish community knowing). From what I understand, this Web site is "spot on," to quote Simon.

  Really, I didn't take offence at all, and laugh at my spelling and sentence structure when reviewing drafts. I'm not as careful on cyber space as with hard copy, and many times it shows. I started taking college courses after leaving the Tower, and was diagnosed with dyslexia. They helped me to work around this, but when I'm not careful or rush, some crazy stuff comes out.

  Thanks for the encouragement, Brother larc. I'm giving up job and family for Lent, and am fasting on chocolate and beer for 40 days. I'll take a look at the Ohio Amish thread; thanks for the info.

  It looks like the Norwegians have invaded this discussion board. We better hide the liquor keys before Norman and Kent get to the bar.

  Any group believing Jesus would return in 1914, and a few years later told Jesus did return, but we just couldn't see it, would buy the Brooklyn Bridge or anything else coming from that end of town. Good post, Norman!

  The Masons rent their temples out to groups all the time as a way of earning extra income. The Dayton, Ohio Masonic Temple is awesome for school graduations and the like. They just don't build structures like these anymore.

  However, I wonder if the Tower ever rented buildings from other religious organizations besides the Masons? Did anyone reading this attend JW assemblies held in other religious buildings?

  You old Norwegian buzzard--nice seeing you here! Of course you know why the Tower uses apocryphal writings; it's because they ran out of "respected professors" at non-accredited universities no one ever heard of to quote. At least when they quote "Maccabees" it sounds better than Professor Nuts at Clown College in Oz.
