  I enjoyed your posted photo, Englishman! I've hosted a few gatherings of former JWs at our home; it's great fun.

  Like many on this forum, I've been out for over 15 years, and was active on splinter group called "philia." It started when a few members from "jesus-witnesses" started e-mailing each other. When the cc list got too large, it turned into a listserve that had between 50 to a 100 like-minded folks. The philia list serve is still up, but months goes by before seeing a post. Folks do move on . . .

  What Is Your Biggest Regret Because You Were a Jehovah's Witness?

  growing up as a witness makes it nearly impossible to deal with the "world", as a child.

  constant pressure is put on witness kids to conform.

  most lead a "double life" out of necessity.

  I recently attended my 30th high school reunion; and although many remembered me ( you are the kid who did not salute the flag) I had no real friendships to rekindle.

  There is very little for me to connect with from my past.

  This reply hits home for me, too. While in grade and high school I made some friends, but didn't get to involved because they were not "in the Truth." My closest friends were a few kids at the KH, but we all know what happens to these when a JW questions the Tower.

  I believe our disconnect from the past is a reason why this forum is so active, in that it's a way of connecting as best we can. Most of us didn't know each other as JWs, but our common history brings us together, and is a substitute for our ghosts of the past. It's easy to forget or leave the Tower, but the friends and shared history leaves a void. This forum helps fill that void, somewhat.

  Did you read the book "1984" of Georges Orwell?

  this book is one of the best book i've ever read.

  it describe well the technics that the watchtower use to manipulate their jehovah's witness.

  WHAT IS THE LAST TEMPTATION YOU REFUSED?

  Going to church. Why--well, why do that again? Actually, it wasn't much of a "temptation," but it was the first thing that came to mind.

  What if potential convert sat in back of K.H. and talked w/ shunned j.w.'s?

  i've been hearing a lot about shunned j.w.

  's having to sit in the back of the kingdom halls when they go to meetings.. so, what would happen if a new bible study person went to the kingdom hall for sunday meeting, (or whatever) and sat in the back of the hall, and talked to the shunned j.w.'s?

  also, are there always shunned j.w.

  I left the KH and I regret that I never had the chance to apologise for my own part in her treatment, albiet it was a minor one as I was only a kid.

  FF -- I too wish I could go back and apologise for the harm that was done when I was a JW. Treating others as less than human is always a shame, and doing it in the name of "love" is about as unloving as it gets. I'm convinced that religion and love don't mix, in many sects; the Jehovah's Witnesses being a good example.

  This happened to me when I was coming in and the DF'd person told me that they couldn't speak to me right then and to ask the person studying with me to explain why.

  I bet that made the person who studied with you feel a little weird having to explain why this loving group of people treated others like they have leprosy.

  It's been a long time since attended meetings, but new ones are usually love-bombed by the rank-n-file, with little chance of them sitting in the back of the KH by themselves and thereby talking with shunned Witnesses. The few shunned Witnesses who attend usually arrive a little late and leave early, thus the congregation as a whole avoids eye contact with disfellowshipped folks.

  When you think about it today, only spoiled brats and cult-like religions act this way.

  Name Silly Reasons JWs Get Disfellowshipped

  i know an argument can be made that any reason is unjustifiable but i'm thinking more of the dumbest reasons.

  for example, if 2 "witnesses" saw you buy a lottery ticket, you could be df'd for "greediness"......any others??

  FallGirl -- Good for you! Now don't forget to vote. I was turned into the body of elders by my JW spouse when she found out I voted. Go figure, if I had sex with a little girl they might have tried to cover it up; but voting is really bad.

  I'm sure there were many JWs disfellowshipped for having oral sex with their spouses--I know of one in our congregation. Voting is a big NO NO--I was kicked out for that crime.
