As already suggested by others, do whatever you feel you need to do. At this point in life, I would not play by the Watchtower rule of sitting there and taking their parting insult and abuse. Religious shunning is nothing more than a way for a few to control the lives of many. Why play that game? Anything one does to show they are not buying it, the better. Who knows, it might awaken a few up at the KH.

Anyone had a near death experience?
by holly inor anything similar???
the nearest i came was knocking myself out - my life actually did flash before my eyes.
it could only have been seconds before bumping my head and hitting the ground, but i flashed through scene after scene of life events, from childhood to adulthood.

"A couple of weeks ago on British TV there was a program all about this subject (I hope any UK posters who saw this will comment), it was quite balanced, and it looked at both sides of the argument." Qwerty -- What did the British TV program say about the other side of the argument? I find the topic very interesting, but life after the Watchtower has made me a skeptic. I don't wish to discount the experiences of others, but can't help wondering about others who had no such experience.

Farkel and others,
You're right, Fred Frenz's book started the 1975 ball rolling. During a talk at the Farm (in the early '70s) Fred stated that the end of the system would probably start in 1974. It's amusing hearing young dubs say the Watchtower never pointed to 1975--there is none so blind as those who refuse to see.

The end of 1975 and beginning of 1976 took on the sounds of silence in our area (Dayton, Ohio). The Tower did eveything possible to drum up activity from 1966 until the middle of 1975, and then acted like they had no memory of the frenzy they created (and benefited from). The meetings in 1976 took on the normal boredom as if the excitement about 1975 never happened in the first place.
The kicker came when the Tower started loosing members, and blamed the remaining ones for putting trust in the crap they spread! That was my turning point, not the failure of 1975, but the Tower's shameful treatment and attempted coverup. As most abusers do, the Tower blamed their victim.
Before 1975 I had full trust in the Tower. After 1975 the blinders were slowly removed.

Will the average age of Witnesses go up with time?
by JH in.
my parents go to a catholic church, and they say that the average age is in the 60's.. at the kh, the average age is about 30, if you calculate the age of the children too.. theoretically, the average age of witnesses should go up with time .
if less and less people become witnesses, the average age should go up, just like traditional religions....no?.

Can you really see the WTS lasting another 100 years?
If I was a JW during and a little after 1914 I'm sure I would answer "NO" to this question. Of course the Internet wasn't around at that time, and the playing field is different today. Yet, here we are 30 years after the huge 1975 failure. . . .

what a difference 6 years makes
by Goldminer in.
summer 1998. my wife and i, along with 2 other couples and a single sister spent a week-end at a cottage.we had lots of fun;swimming, hiking, telling jokes, playing music, enjoying meals together.all in all a very fun week-end(except when a few had a panic attack on sunday morning and absolutely had to leave to go to the meeting).anyways the rest of us cleaned up and went back to town for lunch.. fast-forward 6 years-summer 2004.
6 of those 7 are now inactive(the 7th might be,i'm not sure),2 are disfellowshipped, one couple is divorced, the other couple are having serious marital problems(separated for a while),the single sister got married and is now living a life of hell(married to a complete power-hungry freak).the only couple still together are my wife and i,me struggling to fade away from the jw's and her struggling to do more for the "truth".. anyways,my wife and i were thinking about that week-end at the cottage and saying how we could never be us 7 again there to enjoy another week-end like that.and to think,jw's are supposed to be the happiest people, you'd think this would have become an annual thing, not people leaving each other or just becoming more miserable as the years pass us by.. thought you might find this story interesting, and if you think about it,how many jw's can tell a similar story?

Living in a fairytale world works until you get to the last page. Stealing a weekend away from the meetings and door-to-door work, and being in the company of close friends was a pleasure. I'll always remember the good times while living the fairytale, but they don't endure. Fast-forward 6, 8 or 20 years, and one sees that the friendships, the mind set, and JW routine only continues while caught up in the story. Some return again to re-read the fairytale, but the magic is gone.
I found your story interesting, Goldminer, it brought back some lingering feelings.
