Blondie -- Congrats for sticking it out for 4 years, and putting up with the lot of us!
I agree with EvilForce (but don't tell him) that I always click on a thread when I see your name on it. Lets hear it for Blondie -- "40 more years . . . 40 more years!" :)

Seeing how this thread has developed reminds me how many folks are still attending meetings, some MS and elders that post here. I'm also sure there are a large number of lurkers that can identify with many of the expressions posted that JWs can't share with each other. This is an on-line place to go until it gets too scary, they leave, pray and ask for forgiveness until the next urge of honest conversation strikes again.
Maybe that's where you are AFIN, I don't know, but it could be. As I'm sure you know, there are folks on this forum from nearly every background with a wide range of experience in and out of the Society. There is more collective help within this community than any forum of this kind. I was a pioneer and elder for many years, and filled in for the circuit overseer from time to time, and gave talks at circuit and dis. assemblies. Many of us work in the health field, engineering, farming, law -- you name it, and you'll find it here.
If you need some help or just want to let it all hang out--this is the place to be. -

a friend in need -- "Obviously" you're not a friend in deed. I just love seeing how helpful followers of Jehovah (or is it followers of the Watchtowers) are to others. ;)

Transference of delusions

the danger of destroying delusions.
this has been mentioned before, and i think it's worthwhile to have it's own thread.

It's hard to challenge a fantasy like living forever, when I believe it's not okay to challenge the fantasy.
Gary -- I really thought I was not going to grow old in this system of things, and would live forever. Challenging that delusion after exiting the Tower took a long time. The delusion that God has one correct religion, and it was important to find it, was another. I still remember attending a few churches and thinking this one's not correct because they use a cross. Talk about transference . . .
I've done a good deal of reading after leaving the Tower, and that's helped me deal with most of the Watchtower garbage that follows former members. Internet forums like this is a great service to newer ones leaving. That wasn't around when Gary and I left, and I think it's a blessing beyond words. Time is another factor in working through delusions. When looking into the mirror it's impossible to continue the delusions I won't grow old in this system of things. :) -

I am supposed to love being with the brothers at the KH. I do not. I CAN NOT WAIT TO POST ON THIS BOARD. I PREFER THE INTELLECTUAL EMOTIONAL STIMULATION OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD.
Stilla -- I haven't been to a meeting for over 20 years, but still remember how mind-numbing the last few years were at Kingdom Halls and assemblies. I used to fake illnessess to stay home and watch PPS programs on NOVA -- which were far more stimulating than anything at meetings. The only time I enjoyed some of the JWs was before and after meetings, but that became trying because you couldn't fully express yourself.
I can't imagine attending meetings today, but if I did it might be fun to have a wireless connection and send quotes to this forum during meetings. :) I would need something like that to keep the brain alive. -

An Observation About Life
by JamesThomas inbeing consciously present in this moment of life's expression, being open and meeting with this present moment of reality, being truly with what is actually here without judgments and mental commentary, does not seem to leave much room for beliefs in deities and their shenanigans.
in fact such imaginings only seem to steal away the vibrant aliveness of here.
so, perhaps, it is when we are not that much present with the truth of life, right here, right now, and rather lost in mental interpretations that we feel a need to become involved in the drama of gods and religion.

:: I mean, if we are not with Life right now, then we may not be very much alive, and it would make sense we feel a need to create a future life in heaven. ::
JT, I find the above suggestion about the need to develope a concept of after life interesting. I believe folks that have the least have the greatest need to focus on heaven because the present is bleak and unpleasant. The higher we climb Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, the more we can stop and focus on the leaf, the water, and still the chatter to experience the now. Maybe heaven is a defence mechanism of sorts to get by the unpleasantness of the now for many people.
Just getting to the top of Maslow's ladder doesn't in itself mean one is alive to the Life right now. Money, how to keep it, and get more of it, becomes the other heaven.
I'm approaching this from a sociological point of discussion, not from transcendentalism. I appreciate this post, and your observations. Thanks JT! -

Millions hope to earn heaven by doing their best. But the Bible says our best will never be good enough:
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags? Isaiah 64:6
I just clicked on this thread to see what was going on. Good night, it looks like it's the end of the month, and this poor soul ran out of her meds. EvilForce, you might not be on-call, but for the love of cyber space--please do something, STAT.
If doing our best isn't "good enough" for your god (I'm sure she's the only true god), then your god suffers low self-esteem, and needs others to crap on in order to have a good day. Thanks for the thread--sometimes I forget how crazy the Bible really is in the hands of many people. :(
Funky D -- great post, very well done! -

Did anybody see Tom Cruise on Access Hollywood today?

This was a 30 minute advertisement for Scientology.
Scientology is a very mean-spirited cult that goes after detractors with useless lawsuits to drain them financially. This cult also drains the pockets of their followers with various scams of enlightenment--more enlightenment means a lot more $$$$$.
Folks like Tom Cruise and other high-profile members get very special treatment from the group because it translates into free press and more members. The god of $cientology is money!

Isn't it maddening to hear JWs say they "have the Truth" and the Tower is "giving them meat in due season," when in fact they act like little kids. I'm sorry your mom is doing the victim act, and your dad is playing the game, too. It's not easy dealing with JW children, is it?

Explain you religion/beliefs in a nutshell
by devinsmom inlately i have been pondering my lack of a belief system.
i think that being a jw really turned me off to believing in anything since it was all crammed down my throat.. i have been feeling a need to believe in something.
i think i believe that something created us but not sure if it was one god or many.

I am reallllly uncomfortable with churches where people speak in tongues and cry and collapse and carry on.
Hey -- Why go to church and drop a few dollars in the plate if you can't see a show? Shake the rattlesnakes out of the bag and let the party begin!
