Wanted to add my "Welcome" also! From the little you shared, it sounds like you've been a major pain to the Tower. I like you already!

freddie i asked you explain some of the cr#p you regurgitated earlier.. i'm still waiting for your answers.
aren't you able to defend your god the watchtower corporation against some simple questions?.
i'm sure if you went to the elders and told them some interested person you met on the internet wanted answers they would help you to make a good witness for the organisation.. why not ask them fred after all they are there to help you.
Hi again Fred,
Don't let these evil slaves (old light) I mean aposates (new light) bother you. They're upset because the Watchtower Society is praying that over 5 billion people will be murdered by a loving God for not selling Watchtowers. Larc is hiding in a bomb shelter to avoid execution because he sinned by wearing a beard, and not selling Watchtower magazines. Repent, and shave now larc!

guess what the response was.. those familiar with jw teaching will recognize some of the bad defensive arguments.. <hr>.
Hi Jeff, it's like the "good old days" having several friends back in one corner of cyber space again.
The purpose of the Bible is really not to comment on science. It is to demonstrate to the world what Christians believe about God.
You are a scientist who teaches at a Christian college, and your comments about the Bible and science are well put. Religion, be it Christian or non-Christian, is built on faith. Religious faith can help people struggle with the God question, why are we here, and what's next. Religious faith is not provable; if something is proven, it's science, not faith.
Many fundamentalist are "not familiar with how the Bible came into being," and they're unfamiliar with science as well. They see science as a threat and put it into the corner of demons. If scripture says it rained 40 days and nights after Noah built a boat to save the world as we know it, the fundamentalist will defend the indefensible at great cost to others of faith. Holy books demonstrate the faith of believers before us. They are not magic, and they certainly are not science. Indeed, science is a different animal than it was a few thousands years ago. Using faulty science to prove the Bible's authority only weakens it's place in Christian faith.
It's great seeing you here, Jeff!

Alan,
As always, your research and presentation is excellent. The True Believers in religious circles (not spheres, because they are not well rounded) believe their holy books are written by the most powerful deities, so they can't be wrong. Their world sits on a foundation of sand which erodes with the overwhelming waves of daily facts. Instead of viewing their sacred books as snapshot beliefs from people living at a time and place in history, fundamentalist try forcing their puzzle pieces into place with the dull blade of ignorance. Thanks for a great post!

i`ve never yet been snubbed by a jw.
the reason is that i refuse point blank to speak to them unless they speak to me first.
so, if i`m visiting my jw mum and jw visitors arrive which they often do i just smile, raise one eyebrow slightly, and look `em straight in the eye!.
Englishman,
This comes to mind: "Yes, I returned to Jehovah when I stopped worshipping the Watchtower Society. It's wonderful having a personal relationship with God--I didn't have that as a Witnesses."
As an Agnostic, that's the best reply I can think of before their eyes glaze into a TowerThink trance.

i was d-fed in may of 2000 for living with my boyfriend (now fiance).
we have a daughter who is 4 months old.
my parents both being jw's in fact my dad being po, will have limited contact with us.
Lolieworm,
I guess it depends on how much you're willing to swallow for the desired results. A question that comes to mind is, do you want your daughter exposed to a family who will tell her Mom and Dad will die if they're not good JWs? She might believe she will die unless you're good little JWs, etc. There's a price for everything we do, so it comes down to what are you willing to pay.
BTW, I see that you're new to the group--Welcome!

i'm thinking of daing myself at the end of april.
what things should i do during april?.
a) doing 70+ hours in field service?.
Reading larc's post made me think of something I did after the elders disfellowshipped me for the sin of voting. I had a t-shirt made that says in big letters, "I Survived '75!" I stood on the sidewalk in front of the KH when the JWs were arriving wearing the t-shirt, smoking a pipe. (No kidding.) For whatever reason it just made me feel better. I only regret not hearing the comments inside. BTW, I still have the t-shirt and pipe; wear the t-shirt occasionally, the pipe gathers dust.

Why give the Tower a second thought? DA yourself is a way of playing by their rules so they can slander you. If the elders want to meet with you, tell them you're not interested. You can put the elders on notice that you will seek legal counsel against them if you are slandered in any way.
