I don't know if you've got any Watchtower magazines around, but that should put most to sleep in less than a minute (if you don't get upset first).

How Many Hours Do You Work?
by Englishman injust curious.. todays "times" says that americans do most things one hour before the brits do.. americans, it says, start work at 8am, brits rarely before 9 am.
american lunch is at 12 noon, the uk is 1pm.
american dinner is at 6pm, uk eats around 7.. but how many hours do you need to actually work?.

Englishman -- happy to see you're back in the land of better health.
I think Corp. America has taken lessons from the Watchtower. U.S. workers can't seem to do enough, and if one is not careful, the job might be shipped to a 3-world labor market (careful or not, it still happens). Many need to work two or more jobs in order to eke out a living, with no health insurance, etc. Under the best working conditions, U.S. workers are happy to only work 40-hours a week. Many are expected to work 6 or more days a week, thus their work week might be over 50 hours on a regular schedule.
I work in a college setting; 8:30 to 4 or 5:00, four days a week. However, I'm doing an evening class this semester, and don't leave campus until after 9:00 P.M. one evening. But again, my schedule is atypical for most American workers.

What grammatical errors bug you the most?
by poppers infor me it's the use of : .
it's as a possessive - it's means "it is", so if you don't want to say "it is" don't use the apostrophe.
there are others that bug me but this one is the worst.

"I seen it" gets to me.

I have an iMac and iBook. I've been a Mac user for about 2 years--don't think I'll ever go back to the dark side. :-) The adds for the new G5 look great, however, I'm getting along just fine with my G4-flat screen. My iBook is a G3, and it's a nice little workhorse for photos and e-mails while sitting on the couch. The wireless connect works very well throughout the house, and the yard.

Years ago while doing some pre-convention work, I was brought into a discussion about the latest "new light" from the Tower. As an elder, I remember thinking I didn't have a clue about the so-called proof of the topic. I could go to the ?Index? and read the party line, but truly understanding the ever-changing nuances and flip flops wasn?t something I spent time doing. Thinking about it today, I don?t believe the majority in most religions can go beyond the surface of religious dogma in their denomination. However, as a member of ?the Truth,? we held ourselves to a higher standard, and should have been able to prove our status. The fact is we did or couldn?t, and that worked to the Tower?s advantage. Like most JWs, if the Society said it, it must be true; why bother with the details? I guess I was a number 11, too. Michael

The Watchtower vs The Clock - where are they headed?
by truthseeker inafter reading janh's 1914 generation post (under the best of section), i was impressed by the amount of research he had put in.
one thing that sticks out while reading it, however, is the sneaky way the watchtower kept extending the length of a generation every few years.. all those oldies who've been around for decades, patiently waiting on jehovah and the society for that long promised paradise are already passing away.
metaphorically speaking, their "spiritual tongue" is longing for that drip of cold crystal clear water from the rivers of paradise.

truthseeker,
I appreciated your post and this topic. I'm not very active on this forum, but scan for topics of interest. Indeed, "The Clock" is not on the Tower's side, but in fact, it hasn't been since 1914, 1918, 1925, 1950s, 1975, and 2000. As you pointed out, the Internet (and forums like this) has been another major problem that wasn't a factor during the 1914 to 1975 failures. The Society has a history of spinning failures into other dates, but the Internet may be the one thing that pulls the plug on the Watchtower's-ever-changing clock. Thanks again for the post, truthseeker!

How long would you like to live?
by JH inwe think that 70 or 80 years old is quite old, but some think that science will make man live much longer.
http://www.helenair.com/articles/2003/08/13/opinions/a05081303_01.prt.
do you think science will eventually make man live to be a thousand years old or even more?

The topic question of "How long would you like to live" caught my eye. As a JW, I would have said forever. I'm fairly sure most of us would have given the same answer (high-control groups always look and talk alike). Without going into science keeping us going until whenever, I believe I would like to live until life is no longer interesting/fun.
I don't know when that period will arrive, but I'm fairly sure physical health is a big factor. Indeed, if I had my health and lived to be 200, I'm sure I could find interesting and fun things to do. I hope to have 80 plus years of good to average health, but don't wish to spend years in a nursing home while others feed and wipe me.
