It's already been said, but time is never on the side of an ends-time sect.

Former JW- new here....
by disillusioned youth inhi guys and gals....... .
i would just like to extend greetings to all those poor souls who had to endure the torturous childhood of growing up in a strict jw lifestyle as i had.
i didn't know that there were such forums on the net, and i was made aware of this by my sister who is also a member here, i believe.. i find this kind of funny really.

I have alot of bottled up anger and aggression torwards the 'cult' that ruined my childhood and still holds my mother as a hostage to it's silly sadistic beliefs.
Welcome to the great crowd. As you'll find out, you're not the only one with some bottled anger. Take the cork off the bottle, and enjoy the forum.

I don't care for the O'Rielly Factor program, but it's always good hearing about the WT getting a little press coverage.

GBL -- Yes, it really happened. The poor guy was elderly and had been a JW for years, but never gave talks in the MS. Several pressured him into taking an assignment, and when he got up to the platform, he froze. After a few minutes, I walked up beside him and thanked him for his effort. No one pressured him again about joining the TMS. The guy was smarter than the rest of us--he beat the system of giving talks in the MS. :-)

DocHayes -- That might have been me, I was the TMS before the elder arrangement. I really hated that assignment, and didn't give many Ws. Some talks were so bad, they were difficult to praise. I remember one talk where the guy stood up on the stage for nearly the entire 6 minutes and didn't say a word. He managed to wrap his one leg around the podium--that was interesting.

JW in Canada wins $30k for not wanting to place Christmas decorations

If I was an employer in Canada, I would be very careful who I hired. If I can be fined 30k for asking an employee to do something that my business does, then I should be able to say, Jehovah?s Witnesses cannot not be hired because they can't do the work others are expected to do.

Is Confession Actually A Bad Thing To Do?
by Englishman inwhen i make mistakes ( i do, i do!
) or do something really bad, the last thing i think about is confessing to it.. i apologise where appropriate, try to learn from the experience and generally file away the event so's to maybe profit by the experience.
sometimes i even feel remorse!.

Confession is usually taken as an admission of having done something wrong, and it?s usually voluntary. For example, if I hit your car in the parking lot and drive away, but feel bad about the next day and tell you what happened. I believe that?s a good confession. Telling a group of folks (e.g., elders) that I hit a car and didn?t report it to the owner, serves little purpose other than giving the elders power over me. I believe that type of confession is not healthy for most adults. A moral person would not need to do this.

Hill and tal ? Wow, you two are old! I remember that meeting as a final plea for interested ones to get off the fence and do something, and for the rest of us to increase our activity at all costs. Like Hill, I wish I had kept better notes from that period, but happy you ?graduated from high school,? because many didn?t?the end was coming. Tal, how far away did you move in ?74?

** >9. Every meeting is a holy, sacred occasion. Never be absent by choice. ** This jerk must not have gone to the same meetings I attended for god knows how many years. I remember missing some of these so-called ?holy? meetings and watching NOVA on a PBS TV station. The NOVA program offered more spiritual insight than anything I experienced at the ?sacred? KH meetings.

Question for the old timers: Do you remember the special Service Meeting held sometime around 1973-74 to announce how close we were to the ?end of this system of things.? We invited as many new ones and interested ones to that meeting in order shake they up before it was too late. I had a part on that meeting, and still remember the frenzy of activity before 1975. Does anyone remember that Special Service Meeting?
