The JWs in my neighborhood sold the KH to the Seventh-Day Adventist, and I haven't seen them in the area for a few years. No new tract in this part of town. Doesn't selling a building to "false religion" help support "false religion?"

Yes, I remember you -- I'm not that old! :)) Well, maybe I am but it's nice seeing folks from the past and hearing how they're doing.
Great hearing from you. -

Our neighbors have a Beagle puppy, and it’s a hoot watching him play with about anything he finds in the yard. Can’t help but smile every time . . .

Did Noah preach the "good news"?
by M.J. ini've heard it a hundred times.
"noah preached, so we preach.
" but is that what the bible indicates?

The Noah story never made much since to me when I was a JW, and today less so. Folks didn’t have much contact with other people outside of their location. They also didn’t understand what caused floods, and other disasters, so they chalked it up as the gods must not be happy. They thought that a sweeping floor in their location must mean that the entire world was flooded, too. It’s little wonder that we see floods and fires mentioned in many religious myths from early times. The idea that Noah could have reached all of humankind to warn about the coming flood is even crazier than the Tower’s suggestion that they, and they alone, are God’s spokesman warning others about the modern-day flood called Armageddon.
It just seems that the constant assertions by the WTS/JWs that Noah went out preaching, in the manner that JWs do today, rests on some pretty flimsy/nonexistant scriptural support.
You're right M.J., the Tower is standing on flimsy/nonexistant support albeit from scripture or from the knowledge we have about such things today.

Three of us had a talk at a district assembly several years ago, and were given the manuscript. We didn’t talk from notes; we talked from the Tower’s manuscript. One of us put in a little comment that didn’t change a thing, but got reamed out backstage for the error. I wasn’t the one who added the comments, but today wish I could do it over again.

I joined the downtown YMCA over 4 years ago and go religiously 4 or 5 times a week. I usually go in the morning before going to work. Weights and the treadmill take about an hour, followed by a shower and off to the office. I’ll be 60-years old this year, and figure I’ll live longer working out at the Y instead of sitting on my butt at the KH 5 or more hours a week.

Why do so many show such anger towards JW who post here? What might help?
by Lady Lee inwhy do so many of us show such antagonism towards jw who post here?
we know they won't listen.
we know how it feels to have religion forced upon us.

Most of us have had similar histories in that we were JWs, but that’s about where it stops. Folks posting can carry JW baggage, hurt, anger, hate or embrace religion, different social and economic backgrounds, etc. It’s an open market of minds and places, and all in all I think most behave fairly well. It’s true that some posters get ganged up on if they have JW filters in front of their glasses, but that’s going to happen in any group that was spiritually raped by a cult. Stuff can boil over quickly, and it’s easy to jump into the fray.
You’re right, it might be better if that didn’t happen, but look from wince we came. -

greetings from another newbie
by lost_sheep inwell... i've finally worked up the courage to get an account & start posting on this site.
i've been lurking for a couple of months now, voraciously reading all the, mmm, "delightful words of truth" i've found here.
i'm currently deep in dubdom, so i have to be pretty ambiguous about some personal details, (i'm really paranoid, hopefully that will pass :-/) but my story in a nutshell is: i was born into this religion, baptised in my mid teens, happily married to a wonderful (& thankfully, somewhat open-minded) jw lady, & now, several years later, i'm starting to seriously question some of what i believe.

Welcome to the forum lost_sheep, and to the world of honest discussion. Since you’ve been lurking for a little while, you already know more about the Society than most lifetime JWs. It’s good to have you here, and I look forward to your thoughts on some of the many topics we kick around.

Repairing The Soul After A Cult
by Lady Lee inrepairing the soul after a cult
the previous year i returned to the united states after having spent almost four years in exile abroad, where i lived the most serene life on an island in the mediterranean off the coast of spain.
if someone had told me that within a year i would be deeply involved and committed to a cult, i would have laughed derisively.

No, I had not seen your paper using the term "Social Death." Thanks for listing the link.
BTW, the paper is very well done. I hope the prof appreciated the work you put into it. I've often thought many shunned JWs go though the same steps of "Death and Dying" that's outlined in the Kubler-Ross model. Your term (i.e., Social Death) is fitting. The bright side of a Social Death within groups like the JWs is the possibility of a rebirth that's much better than the last one! :)
