"My Life" with Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman. Michael Keaton is dying and he makes a video for his young son, because he knows he won't be around to watch his son grow up. I was balling my eyes out.

Were You Happy That Jack Barr Of The GB Died?
by minimus ini read that some are quite happy that another gb bites the dust.. i think of my "faithful" elderly jw mother who helped many many families come into the "truth".
she's an intelligent woman.
however, she's blinded by her beliefs (being in a cult).

No, I'm not happy anyone died. But, not too many people live to be 97 years. I feel bad for his close friends and family though. He's one of the few Witnesses who everyone believes is in heaven now.

Wife & I were Without Electricity for 6 Days - Empathize with 3rd World......
by flipper ina massive storm from alaska knocked the hell out of northern california , giving us a foot and a half of snow , snapping trees like matchsticks , crashing multiple electrical lines in the sierra mountains where we live.
knocking electric out for 6 days ( thus my dissapearing act from jwn for 6 days ) - we had a 90 ft. ponderosa pine tree ( 3ft, around ) crash on the lower end of our acre we live on .
it's still leaning on oak trees suspended in time.

Sorry, you had to deal with that Flipper. I wonder if my brother had any problems. He lives in Northern CA too. I think I'll give him a call soon.

America's Most Wanted profiles JW Elder Child Molester
by out4good3 inlast night on amw, they profiled the jw elder child molester.
they detailed how he'd planned to be on the run by stashing money all around his house, how he quickly got a divorce when he was being investigated, sold off his assets in a race car business and disappeared.
one lady interviewed incognito, told of how he was a trusted member in the congregation with privileges.. did anyone else see this segment?

This is a good conversation starter with family that is still in,and it may get them to start thinking. I shared this with my mother who is a diehard Witness. But, this really upset her. And I even got in about the lawsuit settlements. I see the wheels turning.

Favorite Demon Stories
by Cold Steel inone of the most fascinating aspects of the jw religion is the profound fear of demons (evil spirits) it engenders in its members.
i just wondered whether it's something that is used by the leadership as a means of control, or whether it's simply a concept that grew legs and took off on its own?
first, i believe in evil spirits.

Yes, I also noticed demons aren't talked about as much. Of course, they still blame all their temptations, discouragement, and just about everything bad on Satan.
There still are a few that believe everything is demonized.

Is there a such thing as a perfect weekend when you're a Jehovah's Witness?
by miseryloveselders ini'm venting a little bit, just a smidgen anyway.
i might not remember this thread tommorrow, as i just popped the ambien, and i'm waiting for it kick in so i can hit the sack.
i wanted to post this before my brain goes haywire.

You definitely need to play hookie from all theocratic activities next weekend. If anyone asks tell them you were sick or out of town. Or maybe really go out of town.
I never go out in service on Saturdays, well, no other days either. lol. And I get maybe two Sundays a month in,I'm much happier since I've made up my mind to fade. Yes,I have off days where I question myself,or want the fade to go faster.
But, anyway, you should start picking some Saturdays and Sundays where you won't be doing any JW activities. You can sleep in,take a walk, watch movies, anything you want. It really is a sort of high in its own right. Trust me on that.

Woman I work with just asked me, "if you fall in love and get married, do you have to marry a JW?"
by miseryloveselders inyou wanna talk about a section in the office floor becoming as quiet as a vacant building in the middle of nowhere.
so she put her hand on her chin and said in more words or less, "if you fall in love, and get married, do you have to marry a jw?
i couldn't imagine people looking at me poorly because i didn't marry a jw!

Yes, I was asked this a lot. And I was a hardcore dub then. But, I could tell my co-workers figured that we feel we're better than everyone else.
But, it's strange how this was one of the big things that made me start to question everything. I think it's horrible that if a baptized Witness marries and unbeliever, they get "marked"and a talk is given to the congregation. Of course, not every body of elders follows through with this, especially if the one in question is an elder's daughter. lol.
