A JW--Mormon Alliance? WT and LDS Merger?
by cameo-d infirst, there is a disclaimer on the webiste that it is not an "official" lds website.
however, what appears to be promoted is mormon based.. .
why would a mormon based website title itself "upon the watchtower"?.
-
EmptyInside
Well, that's sounds a bit far- fetched to me. There would be a mass exodus on both ends if that happened. That would be the final straw for me. I do know a former Witness who became Mormon. But, she was the type that made everybody say good riddance, they can have her.

How fast can you "prepare" a Watchtower lesson?
by Open mind inover the last 3 years i've gotten much faster at making a wt article look "studied".. .
how fast can you get one ready for inspection by snoopy elders and microphone handlers?.
.

I never realized anyone noticed stuff like that. And I really don't care what anyone thinks if I appear to have studied the lesson or not. Actually, you are supposed to look up some extra info. in the Insight book or reference Bible. They give some crazy comments at my hall though. It's pretty entertaining.

I pretty much was allowed to stay home if there were holiday parties at school. But, if there was a test earlier in the day I'd go to school. Someone would usually pick me up and I'd leave school early. The worst time was when noone was able to pick me up, and I had to sit with the principal in his office. And the flag salute wasn't an issue for me in the 80's. Most of the other students didn't take it too seriously. It was usually a time to goof off. My first grade teacher actually used me as an example as to how to behave during the flag salute, even though, I didn't salute the flag. And I had a really cool art teacher who let me pick my own art projects. But, I was afraid of my music teacher. And I didn't tell him I couldn't sing holiday songs, so I just mouthed the words. There were other times when I was extra nervous. It seems like everything in school was centered around holidays, or patriotic celebrations. And I always felt guilty for being too shy in school and not witnessing to my classmates. But, now, I realize that is a lot of extra guilt to put on a kid. But, for the most part I really didn't care about the holidays. The only thing I wanted to celebrate was my own birthday. And I did, sort of in kindergarten. But, that's another story.

What can a divorced woman in her forties expect if she stays in the WT?
by dgp inpeople, another question from me.
i thank everyone in advance for their posts.. i know this is a difficult question, and perhaps one no one can answer.
but, let me post it anyways.

That's a good question, since I'm approaching my forties, but never married. If she wants to remarry,as many already stated, the pickings are quite slim. Most women in the organization in that situation learn to be content with their status. They keep busy with theocratic activities and hang out with other sisters in their same situation. And dream of finding the perfect man in the new system. Because as each year passes, you kind of give up any hope of finding a marriage mate in the organization. It is quite depressing. It's the big reason I am here and questioning everything I believed to be true.

Did you Have One " Power Controlling " Elder in your Congregations ?
by flipper ini believe many congregations had one, if not 90 % of the congregations i attended.
there seemed to always be one elder that dominated over the other elders and incredibly - in spite of the arrangement being called a " body of elders " many times it seemed that one elder would arise and take control over the other elders.
the other elders would roll over and bow essentially to these power elders.

Well, I don't want to get into too much detail here. But, in one congregation I attended, the presiding overseer pretty much called the shots. He and another brother were always at odds. It caused a lot of problems in the elder body so much that they had to call in brothers from other halls to handle the matter. It resulted in the removal of 4 elders, including the presiding overseer. But, it seems like there has always been problems with the elder body in that congregation, because of a couple of strong personalities. But, before my time, I heard of an occasion where one elder went to punch another one in the face. I don't know how far that went though.

A Sad Situation
by EmptyInside ini know of an elderly, pioneer sister who has a disfellowshipped son with a terminal illness.
and until recently, she has had no contact with him.
her son doesn't really have much longer to live.

Lime, I know this story is true, because I've known this woman all my life. But, I think this is an extreme example, I hope anyway. On the other end of the spectrum, I know others who still visit with there disfellowshipped children, but they keep quiet about it. But, I know no one in the hall is against this sister seeing her son. But, someone who spoke with her today related her feelings to me , and I just shook my head in sadness.

I know of an elderly, pioneer sister who has a disfellowshipped son with a terminal illness. And until recently, she has had no contact with him. Her son doesn't really have much longer to live. And she has travelled to see him, despite her poor health. But,she actually feels guilty and wonders if she's being unfaithful to Jehovah for visiting with her dying son. No matter how you look at this situation, it is just heartbreaking. All these years apart, and only together now, because he's dying. And the poor sister thinks Jehovah will erase all her years of faithful service, because she wants to say good-bye to her son.

Were You Joyful When A Meeting Had To Be Canceled?
by minimus ini was never thrilled to have a meeting during inclement weather.
if it was seriously snowing and the weatherman suggested to stay in because of the conditions, i rarely went to the meeting.
why take a chance, right?
-
EmptyInside
Yes, I was usually relieved. But,if the weather was really bad, it didn't matter whether or not the meeting was canceled, I wasn't going to risk it anyway. I know a brother, when his hall and others around him canceled their meeting, he found a hall that didn't cancel that Sunday, and went to their meeting.
