Anticipating a barrage of "dislikes"..... They hacked into the system in 2016 and are working on the same for 2020. And the current potus has no problem with that. It serves his dictatorial interests.

Unwritten, congregational 'rules'
by Thetruthhurts inwhat were some of yours?
the big one in our hall was no frontal hugs!
these were generally thought of as inappropriate, only side hugs should be given between sisters and brothers.

Reminded of yet another....regarding the resolutions..when the question who seconds this motion was asked ...only an appointed servant could do the honors. I recall once when my husband (a non titled brother) raised his hand to second it and was called on...and then the bro on the stage asked for a second one to second the motion and got a titled one to do so. Idiots.

Evil Wind Chimes
by Sea Breeze ini remember going door to door in the late 60's with my mother as a 5 or 6 year old.
one time she caught me looking at the wind chimes on a porch.
she told me they had pagan origins, were evil, and were somehow connected to demons.

Oh yeah....I remember the gift giving one. No little card attached to indicate who the present was from.
Also toward the end of my cult incarceration a dear relative died. I sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers to the hall where the memorial service was to take place. When we arrived it was nowhere to be seen...I questioned an elderette I knew and she went panic stricken, ashen...gasping that we don't have flowers in the hall...some WT directive that they were banned at funerals because historically they were to keep decaying corpse odor muffled and demon possession somehow figured into this. The beautiful bouquet sat out in the hot summer sun parking lot. I was appalled. A funeral with no flowers......

Alas...not having set foot in one of their "temples" unfamiliar with current unwritten rules......do females always have to be in skirts or dresses still or do they let people dress as they like? Men still have to do the suit thing, jacket and all?

Who’s The Best Actor/Actress? Who Is Overrated??
by minimus inone of my favorite actors is robert de niro.
some of his later movies were so so but overall i think he was outstanding.
meryl streep, i just never thought she was anything exciting yet people say she’s the best actress of all time.

Meryl Streep was fabulous in the Bridges of Madison County. Other than that I accept she is a talented actress but I find her self-aggrandizing and kinda frumpy. Odd she and Redford got together...he just seems so much more interesting a person. But what do I know....

Top three males:
Ralph Fiennes
Anthony Hopkins
Al Pacino
Top three females:
Helen Mirren
Angelina Jolie
Hhhhhmmmmm.....Reese Witherspoon is good but not in the above league.....I do like Margot Robbie and I think Saorise Ronan has fabulous potential but needs more development.
And Bradley Cooper is too damn handsome to leave out.

People Were More Ingenious in the Past
by Simon inok, you'll have to bear with me with this one.. i want to talk about toasters.
a) a toaster you can buy today, any brand.
b) a toaster invented in 1948. for a bonus, how long do you think a toaster purchased today will keep working?
-
tiki
It's a corporate ploy called planned obsolescence.....we had a toaster from the 70's that lasted until about 2017ish....I bought an expensive good name brand one in hopes it would last a good long time....it went maybe 2 years then the wire stay hook or whatever went and the thing went caput. So much for getting your moneys worth. So next I got an $18 Wal-Mart one. I got about ten toasts out of that one and it went. I have given up on toast.
We had a dishwasher that lasted from 1971 to sometime in the 2005 range. The one I currently have is maybe ten years old and unless dishes are completely rinsed they come out scabby and filmed and need rewashing. The top shelf doesn't clean at all. Utter wasteful of resources society....cheapen goods, hike prices....keep the hamsters on the money wheel.

Why Does So Much Intellectual Innovation in the US Tend to Come from the East or West Coasts ???
by RubaDub inthere are many good universities in the central part of the us but why do so many innovative things, i.e.
silicon valley, seem to happen on one side of the country or the other (california, new york, massachusetts to name a few)?
even what is considered the most high tech area in the center of the country, austin texas, is a huge liberal bastion.

We liberal-minded intellectuals prefer living within driving distance of the ocean. It is conducive to creative thinking and critical analysis. The very thought of being surrounded by cornstalks and miles upon miles of flat plains is devastating to our collective souls.
Seriously, major universities are the hubs of innovation....and they are mostly located on the coasts. The fine arts abound in such areas as well....drawing curious minds. Progressive thinking is encouraged and enhanced.
