So so true! Our lifetime has seen much change. Lot of fantastic technological and scientific advances....but sad deterioration of appreciation for true art, nature and ones fellow man. Education is going downhill...the dumbing down of society in general...and love...romantic love....falling in love. People hook up for personal gratification and couple based on convenience....and they miss out on one of the most awesome human experience.

I am now 73 and the road has been filled with wonders
by Terry ini appreciate all my friends who stop to read what i write and post.
you help me more than you know simply by being there as a sense of 'family of friends' for me to talk to and 'share' thoughts with.i guess if i didn't have stories left to tell or people to listen, i could pack it in and join elon musk in a colony on mars.january 15, 2020. .
which world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.everywhere you found telephone booths!

PIMI relative complains about convention venue.
by joe134cd ini have just got of the phone with a relative complaining about the convention venue.
as far as my relative is concerned wt can do no wrong, so for him to say what he did it must of been bad.
the venue where the convention was held was described to me as a “tin shed with no air conditioning”.

Pressures from world is like wind
by road to nowhere inthat lesson for today likens holy spirit to wind.
any sailor knows you have to sail across or into the wind to get someplace.
the wind will shipwreck you.

Maybe they should skip the sail/wind illustrations...they usually are completely ignorant...

Circus Assembly Jaw Dropper
by Slidin Fast inthe co got on his hind legs for the public talk and repeated twice "tolerance promotes division".
then backed it up by saying that if one group march for some right, another group will march for the opposite.. so jws are intolerant and proud of it.
f@@@k me sideways.. may explain that the baptism tally was 0..

Tolerance promotes division. Examples please?
I am a meat eater. I tolerate vegans. I am a vegan. I tolerate meat eaters. Respect for the freedom of choice of my fellow man. How is this basic concept deemed divisive?

After the death of a spouse, how long did people wait to get remarried?
by RubaDub ini was on the phone with a long-time friend from my original congregation north of new york city and she told me that the 'shit hit the fan' when a brother (long-time elder i know well) got remarried about 6 weeks after his wife died.. he was about 60 and his new wife (a pioneer that i also know) was about 50 and had never been married.. it became a huge issue when the co came.
due to all the talk and chatter in the congregation, he even included in one of his talks without naming names, that marriage is something sacred and that when and how people get married is a personal matter as long as it conforms to bible standards.. anyway, it shut everybody up.
any similar experiences in your current/former congregations?.

One I know of....elder...wife suddenly passed in her sleep. He was in early 60's I think.... He latched onto a young woman in her late 20's...divorced with a child. His words and I quote " when your old dog dies, what do you do? You get a nice new puppy". I was appalled. This was maybe 6 months after the death.....
Two others I know of wasted no time either. One around 80 snapped up a 60ish year old sister who had been taking care of his ailing wife. They "dated" with a chaperone. How sad is that!!
I was widowed awhile ago and the last thing I want is to remarry. I had the best possible man for me and my marriage to him is forever.

A Song to Jehovah's Praise - rejected!
by Terry inas an obedient little jw at age 20, i was serving time in federal prison in the late 60's, and the 40 brothers inside seagoville prison decided to stage our own assembly.i was the music servant.
(we didn't have elders back then.
)the theme of the assembly mimicked the free world assemblies being held outside.long story short:i composed (what i think and everyone else thought was) a very good song titled:following the fine shepherd as the end draws near.we rehearsed it (bros who had instruments) and the consensus revealed it was a winner._____excerpt:"jehovah god above, we owe you all our love; you are our shepherd and we follow you.though satan demands, that we must compromise; we'd sooner face death than be wrong in your eyes.now and forevermore, we fear not satan's roar;you are our shepherd and we follow you.

Vietnam was horrible all around....given the mental and emotional status on return of way too many that served there, the incarceration experience may have not been much more hideous a circumstance. Those guys came back with ptsd.....drug and/or alcohol addictions and I know several suicides.
However, the religions stance and subsequent lack of concern for their faithful young men is incomprehensible. You are a survivor, Terry.

Sad....you guys were faithfully giving heart and soul and were getting stomped on. Back in that day we were idealistic...hopeful....loyal....but we learned reality soon enough. Some sooner than others....me...took a long time.....
Thankfully it is reduced to reminiscences at this point....

My Grandmothers Funeral
by Enrique Tomlinson 1 inmy beloved grandmother has passed away and her funeral is next week at a kingdom hall.
she was a loyal jw, and unfortunately i am not understanding of the funeral procedures.
please could you kindly explain what what will happen in the funeral?
-
tiki
The funeral at the kingdom hall is pretty simple. The speaker typically relates some facts about the deceased, emphasizing their religious preferences and involvement. Then the main topic of resurrection to a paradise earth is presented, with bible verses used. At the end there is a song and prayer. Only the elder speaking is at the podium...no family or friends share in the presentation. Whatever arrangements for burial and/or gathering subsequent are announced. That's it....I wish you peace and a comfortable adjustment to your loss....
