i just had an interview with a reporter that wants to do an article in the houston chronicle on our ex-jw meet up group www.exjw.meetup.com ==== she asked me some questions about my experience & the group & said she wants to do an article about us and take some photos at our next meet - up.
i sure hope we have a good turn out hey houston - i mean u!!!!!!

It is a very casual meeting. Usually different locations we vote for. We have been away different amounts of time & it's kinda interesting comparing notes on all the changes we've seen over the years. The group I have been going to only has a few regulars. But I really am hoping that more come. What struck me as the most interesting this is that almost everyone is a christian. I always look forward to it.

It helps me feel better talking with other ex-jw's and making new friends. I would love to see our numbers increase and the jw's decrease. I hate to see that huge assembly hall. Makes me want to vomit.

The best thing I found is reading posts ya'all share & stories of how we're grown. I know growing up knocking on doors was definately not a good time, but when I boil it down - it could've been worse. I hated the teachings from my teen years till I could get out the home. Now I have no family relationships, but I have done nothing that could ever warrant that kind of treatment. They are not about LOVE they are about FEAR. It kills me how they get all panicky about things like taking mega doses of vitamins, aluminum & getting mercury fillings taken out your teeth. Eyes rolling.....
Everytime I cruise in - someone posts what was on my brain -- How do you do that??????

just had to share that christmas was wonderful & my standing rib roast came out fabulous.
i always stress so much over everything being perfect and get going too many directions and get overwhelmed.

I had so much fun making lots of holiday cookies, cheesecake, & other all homemade traditions. I love decorating & going to look at lights. This year was not about me. For the first time my hubby & me exchanged only one gift because we are so happy together that we didn't need stuff to make us happy. It was just so wonderful. According to those annoying commercials unless you get a Lexus or diamonds you will not have a good Christmas. I will be so glad when those go away.

how do you feel about telling people you were a jw, does it make you feel like admiting you were a flasher or some strange perv?.
i told a lady the other day who asked about what i was doing for christmas, that i used to be a jw, but i had to make sure she knew i was brought up as one by my parents , just so she didn't think it was my choice.. she thought i was very brave for leaving though.
I always bring it up & every opportunity. My only fear is that one time it's going to catch up with me & that I'll be telling it to a current jw. All the pain I've recently gone thru has not been easy for me (even tho I've been away for 27years now) being shunned by my only parent is something I think everybody needs to know so they will slam the door in their faces & know it is an evil cult. The people I tell are very kind and understanding to me - sometimes I really need that.

They are all such hippocrates - they will always have their hands out and grab any gift & then they will tell you they don't celebrate so you understand that you will not be getting anything from them. I agree when I was a small jw I never got gifts all year long. If I did ask for something I was told I was being worldly & selfish.
Since there is nuttin happenin at work today - think I'll go shopping for selfish and wordly gift.

elswhere recently started a thread about shunning and i noted that at least ninety per cent of the posters to the thread were from the u.s.of a. and canada and they had had some bad experiences with the problem.. why should this be significant ?.
well it seems to me that the shunning problem in america is far worse than here in the u.k. i know of several persons who have been dissed but i am not aware that shunning is a serious issue for them.
can anyone tell me if shunning causes less of a problem here in the u.k. than it does other places in the world, and if so why?.
Isn't the whole attitude more laid back in Europe. It seems to be more open about nudity and mabie that translates into the jw's too. I was so shocked to see naked women on billboards for soap - if it was here the men would probably drive into the signs.
ok so i'm on the phone talking to my friend, when i hear a knock so light i wasn't even sure if it was a knock.... (the doorbell, lighted, works just fine).. i open the door.
two attractive young ladies in their early 20s are standing there, don't even make eye contact.
one reaches into her bookbag and pulls out the lasts watchtower and asnake magazines and proceeds to ramble incoherently for the next 30 seconds.

Thank you for being so brave to tell them the truth about "their truth". I always pity them when they come to the doors, especially the really young children since they can't make up their own minds yet. You gave them a lot to digest. I'm praying they can look at the jw teachings from a different perspective & get out now!
