Is Believing in God Immoral?

a recurrent theme thrust forward by many theists is that morality is unattainable without belief in god.

the idea seems to pervade that thinking, that without god-restraint, fear of lost eternity, man would run seriously amok, freely plundering, murdering, and bringing general havoc upon the innocent.

might there be some logical points to counter such thinking.

Perry brother, why do you attack Jeff? Attack his arguments and show us where how and why you think is wrong. otherwise your statement is an ad hominem fallacy that belongs to the watchtower magazine.

Borg court: 1st session

record of committee meeting #1. after prayer, proverbs 28:13 was read: "he who is covering over his transgressions will not succeed, but he who is confessing and leaving them will be shown mercy.

" the need to confess to jehovah was emphasized.

as jehovah's representatives, the elders said we therefore needed to confess to them.

Ok, so after reading your comments this is my opinion:

1.- you did nothing wrong, clean your conscience.

2.- to their eyes and your wifes you fornicated and covered it. But YOU dont have to tell them anything else. Only what your wife knows and thats all. Dont give them any ammunition. You can handle the next meeting on your terms.

3.- If the "sin" happened more than 3 years ago and nobody knows and you show "repentance" they wont Df. If what you want is to avoid Df and fade later. Remaining a JW will give you some leeway with your wife and the opportunity to at least try to de-program her.

4.- You will be good what ever the descicion of the JC. If they keep you in, that gives you time to regroup and plan your escape. IF the kick you out then they made it easy for you.

5.- Finding dishonesty is not apostasy. Apostasy is leaving your religion. If you want to be DFD then avoid the apostasy issue. let them have you for the fornication 3 years ago. That way you and your wife share the "sin" together. That gives you more weapons.

you are in control, not them.

Actually it would work if you think of it! Maybe that will be "new light" and if its printed on the Watchtower the dubs will believe it.

today i saw something interesting, and eye opening.

a street lady(atleast i think she was) came in today to the store and asked for $2 for gas, with some sob story about a relative being dead and having to get somewhere but not having enough gas for her vehicle (an old lady)....coughing like she's smoked cigs her whole life.

a witness working at the store paused and got up to give her $2, but before giving, reached for one of the new wt material pamphlets.

JWs... You are not unique! take a look at this. My research

in my research i have decided to go waaaay back.

so, one of the first things i did was look at the beginnings with regard to charles taze russell.. while this may be old news to many, this is indeed new to me.

and i want to tell this to the jws that are no doubt on here too.. you are an adventist sect.. without posting the expanded (very long) version of my research, i will post the basics that lead me to this conclusion.. how unique are jehovahs witnesses?

I think my sister finally got it...

a couple of years ago we got into this huge family argument because i didn't believe jehovah was going to destroy 99.9% of the population at armageddon.

elders were involved and i almost got d'ffed.

i didn't talk to her or my parents for 4 months.

We never lead anyone out. They do it themselves. we just facilitate the tools.
