  R.I.P Daniel

  every time i hear the following song by elton john, i have to pull over and shed a tear or two or twenty and think of all the other people like me who lost a brother whose name was daniel.... my brother daniel would have turned 40 today august 6 (southern hemisphere time).. i sadly lost daniel when i was 5 and he was 4 .... i still have vivid memories and photographs, yet sadly due to the religion that is called the jehovahs witnesses have not yet fully grieved or coped with my younger brothers death in a road accident.

  i have never spoken to anyone outside my family about daniels death as i was raised up with the view that as a young person i would witness any day now the resurrection of my dear little brother.

  not a week goes by when i do not visit his gravesite at fawkner cemetary looking for closure or the fact that i may never see him in the new system.

  Dear Mattieu, I'm so sorry about your loss... Yes, it's hard when it hits you you may not see your dear ones ever again after decades of unshakeable belief...

  By the way, I'm flattered the Daniel of the song thought so greatly about Spain, having been born and lived in that country my whole life. It certainly is a beautiful place to live in...

  but i guess this is my first big rant.. this last year has been the hardest year of my life.

  my son tried to kill himself ( he did something pretty bad, got caught, and i guess that's the only way he thought to deal) i am also very close to actually hating my husband, and i do not hate people.

  and every decision that i make lately seems to be the wrong one.

  Dear Tammy,

  Having an 11-year-old myself, your story broke my heart. Just that one problem is huge enough to overwhelm anybody, how much more if on top of that your husband adds to the burden! Plus, as The Gladiator and other posters have pointed out, you are SUCH a sweet person his treatment is absolutely unjustified! I'm truly sorry you are going through that and wish I could do something active to help you. My heart and my thoughts are with you. I wish you lots of inner strength and wisdom.... Please give an extra hug to your son for me...

  At a loss what to do RE: JW family and my kids

  i have 2 small kids, ages 4 and 5 yrs and one on the way (via adoption!).

  my husband and i faded/suddenly disappeared last fall, never to go back to meetings.

  we outed ourselves and told our super hardcore parents/family members that we didn't believe it anymore, were choosing a different path etc.

  Oh dear! I'm beginning to be worried about myself becoming unforgiving or something. All of you sound so tolerant to me advising 2pink not to allow the grandparents to visit the kids without supervision, but to still let them see them with the parents around. I'd be much more radical in this case. This is how I'd plainly put it to them: "When you treat us, my husband and me, with the love and respect we are entitled to, you will have the privilege of enjoying our kids, of course with us present all the time, like normal families do. We hope you come to your senses. We really want you to. We love you, but we won't tolerate the insane way you are behaving towards us. We are a pack, and either you accept the whole lot of us or you can't have any".

  Dear 2pink, for goodness' sake, don't tolerate that behaviour towards you and your husband! You are too sweet to be treated like that...

  yesterday i was sitting here and all of a sudden realized i was humming one of those dreadful songs.

  i even remembered the words!

  <chills>.. so i sat here and started singing other songs out loud, which i normally don't do even though i live alone and don't have to listen to people begging me to stop singing.. so how do you get those songs out of your head?.

  I'm surprised I seem to be the only one who just carries on singing when I catch myself humming one. They bring back beautiful memories and it feels good to remember how it felt. Some of the words and tunes made me feel so full of faith and devotion! I even play a couple on the piano from time to time. And now, thanks to Snowbird and JediMaster, I can't get "An evening song to Jehovah" out of my brain. Ha, ha! Honestly, didn't you find some of them very moving when you were in?
