I think this is why they are pushing foreign languages so hard now. My mother is taking a Hindi "class" at the Hall, and I know they're offering a lot of others as well. In addition, a lot of young couples have recently be reassigned (against their will) to Spanish, Portuguese, and French congregations in our area. I think the days of it being a predominantly English-speaking religion are numbered.

COs always seemed to love getting involved with drama, at least in my experience. They seemed to actively seek out the juicy stories in each congregation and then try to insert themselves into them so they could look like heroes. It's really bizarre, though, that he would side with one family so publicly. My first thought when I read that was, "Well, they must have been the ones with the most money."
One night at the meeting an elder got up and read and article from better homes and gardens from the platform as a local needs part. It was an article about the witnesses sure but he just read the whole thing...
Not to get off-topic, but I would love to find that article. Internet is failing me. Anyone have an idea?

Would taking the Harp book from the KH library be stealing?
by EndofMysteries incan anyone verify, but aren't those supposed to be trashed?
there are no pre 1950's wt in there anymore.
i saw that book there though, wondering if once an elder realizes it, will it be trashed or not?

Until your congregation pays off its loan to the WTBTS, you're technically a part owner of it, right?
I would normally be absolutely opposed to something like this, but they're literally trashing a huge amount of history. I say, preserve it.

Like others have said, JW friends are just a drain when you're fading. If you can't get rid of the JW friends, which sounds understandable based on your situation, try to balance them out by adding in some new non-JW friends. If you don't have any, I suggest getting involved in some community organizations or doing volunteer work. If you work in an office, have some co-workers over for dinner or go out with them for drinks. It makes it SO much more bearable and gives you visits and nights out you can actually look forward to.

Standing Room Only at Tulsa District Convention
by darthfader inmy parents were to attend the dc in tulsa, when they arrived, there was no parking and no seats available.
is this because there are more people in the area or fewer locations and times?.
any ideas?.

This has been happening at the DCs for my circuit periodically over the past few years -- not because the interest is so great (attendance stays pretty stable), but because the society is so cheap and keeps renting places that aren't big enough. Even when they rent large facilities, they only pay for the first level, so if they get any overflow, they can't go past the dividers into the second level. They've also been skimping out on renting folding chairs for the floor seating area because they don't want to pay to have enough set up.
Also, the overall size of the facilities used in my area has been steadily decreasing since I was younger, and they've been moving farther and farther out of the major cities. For example, went went from a large civic center in a metro area of 700,000, to mid-sized civic center in a city of 124,000, to a university basketball hall in a town of 35,000. They're saving money by going farther out and renting less space, but it makes for cramped quarters indeed.

OMG They are doing commercials now!?
by flower ini just finished watching martha stewart and after it went off there was a set of commercials before the news came on and i swear i just saw a commercial from the christian congregation of jehovahs' witnesses!.
it was about raising your children with knowledge and love.
it showed a teen girl on the internet in a chat room with a person who had become her best friend and wanted to meet her in person and they said something like if it seems too good to be true it is..'love builds happy familys' was the slogan or something.. .

The links are not woking...
Do a Torrent search for the PSA titles. That's how I found them. Maybe they will put them up on JW Media soon?
I wonder why they took the old ones down, especially since they left up articles about them.

Sorry to bump up a very old thread, but perhaps this is an update!
My father was on a fishing trip recently in upstate New York and swears up and down that he saw a JW commercial. I showed him the clips someone had linked here I found through another link (sorry, juggling too many tabs :)) and he said this appeared to be an updated commercial. He said it was very clear about being from the Jehovah's Witnesses, not some other group with a similar name.
Anyone know anything about this? Is it possible that they're back to doing them?
Interestingly, he was in the same area where a large group from my old congregation will be travelling next month to do seldom-worked territory. I wonder if they're doing targeted ads in areas with low activity? That could explain why most of us haven't seen them.

Dedication of JW Buildings
by Incognito ini have seen witnesses make a big deal over attending a dedication ceremony at a new kingdom hall, assembly hall or bethel branch.
i have attended a few myself.
as a witness, i had always understood that this ceremony is to dedicate the building's use to the worship of jehovah by 'true christians'.

Witnesses would make little nasty remarks whenever we drove by the place. In their eyses it went from a place of "life" to a place of "death".
Yet they'll never acknowledge the fact that they sold it to those people, right? That they profited off their "death"? As OnTheWayOut noted, if they really cared and didn't want them used by other groups, they'd knock them down and sell the land only.
Two of the three Halls I attended growing up have been sold to other churches now. The Assembly Hall I attended was sold to a Chadisic group and immedialely torn down. The new Hall in my town had a huge dedication service, with a massive price-tag attached, but I'm sure it will end up a church of some other kind down the road, assuming the WTBTS lasts long enough. It's all a meaningless farce.

Research shows Jehovah's Witnesses grow faster in less developed countries
by slimboyfat inpeople have often commented that much of the current growth of jws is taking place in developing countries.
social researchers studying the growth of jws, mormons and seventh-day adventists have confirmed this observation in a recently published article: .

Aw, c'mon for goodness sake! Most, if not all proslyetizing Christian-based religions flood poorer countries with their missionaries and simplistic messages. Even within developed countries, they carefully concentrate on poorer districts because that's where there's greater likelihood of misery and hence interest. Sad but true, Christianity is a religion that thrives on desperation and hopelessness. Anyone with half a decent life would not be so attracted to a religion that, in one form or another, despises human nature and longs for rescuing from personal responsibility.
Countries with large populations with little education, often poor quality education provided by religious organisations, are always vunerable to proselytising. Ignorance is essential for religion to of all sorts to grow.
I see more truth in the first assertion that the second. It's not that people in third-world nations are "ignorant"; it's that they're desperate. That's the same target audience the JWs seek in every area. They seek out the weakest and most stranded in society and then offer them hope for a better life. That's how you end up with many truly bright people in the JWs in developed nations -- they're not dumb, but they want the babysitting and rides to the grocery store.
