Clergy /Nazism photos provided by WTB&TS

i was looking through some old photographs the other day,my wife and i are not that organised with photo`s,we have boxes of them that we never put in albums,and we have been married nearing 50 years ,so you can imagine we have a few.in the early 60`s when i was converted their was an article in a watchtower dealing with the clergys involvement with nazi germany during world war 2 .being newly converted i had some long discussions with my brother inlaw,who was a catholic, about religion.so when this magazine came out i wrote to the branch office in strathfield enquiring whether i could obtain the photos proving this.not long after i received 4 photo`s from the branch office in strathfield providing this evidence.at the time i didn`t think to much about it.but now 50 years later i think why would they give a newly baptised person this?

(i know they would look for any opportunity to bag catholics then and now ) i have the original envelope from strathfield to me but the postage stamp is missing however the return adress is clearly identifiable.on the back of the photo`s is some information presumably in german and english translation.1.new years reception by hitler 2.hitler greets lutheran reichs bishop muller,3.papstliche gcandte nuutius vasallo di fowegrossa( papal representative)4.on return of saar to germany r.c.bishops von trier and speyer giving nazi salute.has anybody else ever had a similar experience,being given documents from the society,that years down the track ,think,why would they?.

Thank you for making that point, Outlaw. While I have no love for religion, I'm always amazed by how many ex-JWs, especially ones who convert to other forms of fundamentalist Christianity, continue to loathe Catholics or believe in Catholic conspiracy theories. It's one thing to be critical of the Church's organization and its various problems, but some people definitely seem to take it a bit too far.

smiddy, I would definitely hang on to those materials. Sounds museum-worthy (really). You have to be one of very few people in possession of personal correspondence from a branch office, especially from that time period.

Can you recommend any films? Expanding my collection

hey guys, i'm compiling some hard drives full of films and tv series.

i've come to a bit of an impasse.

i've got hundreds of films, with all the obvious choices.

Some really great older comedies:

It Happened One Night -- Claudette Colbert and Clark Gabel, directed by Frank Capra...this is pretty much the original screwball rom-com
The Court Jester -- Danny Kaye...legendary musical comedy, inspired many comedians and actors, tons of allusions to it in modern comedies
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World -- truly epic treasure hunt adventure comedy that, like The Court Jester, is frequently referenced on film and TV
Modern Times and The Great Dictator -- Charlie Chaplin at his best, and the visuals (especially in the former) are incredible for the time

Some great foreign films:

To Live -- absolutely beautiful Chinese film that follows a family through the various stages of Chinese history since the '40s
The Last Emperor -- another gorgeous Chinese film that should resonate with anyone who knows what it feels like to be trapped in life
Cinema Paradiso -- touching Italian film that celebrates, among other things, a love of film!
Elevator to the Gallows -- stunning French film noir that launched Louis Malle's career

Are most JW's window washers?

i have read this on this site and know some that do this type of work.

if most jw's are window washers, what other occupations are considered the type of jobs that a witless would have.

The most popular jobs for the women in my congregations were definitely house-cleaning and CNA work. We also had a number of women who worked weekends as servers for catering companies. Very few did any of that full-time, of course. The more professionally-oriented women tended to go for bank teller positions or low-level jobs in the insurance industry, which is very big in my area.

For men, we had a lot of landscapers, contractors, and HVAC technicians. Manual labor was always the big thing. They would often brag that their work on quick-builds helped get them good employment opportunities.

At the same time, we did have quite a few people in white collar jobs or middle-management, especially among the elders. But for the rank-and-file, the jobs and pay were pretty crummy, comparatively speaking.

i've been dreading this week and now the nightmare is starting to unfold :s the co just called wanting to know how i'm doing.

You're not required to answer the phone or the door!

I live by the following policy: if the number calling doesn't come up with a name on caller I.D....it doesn't get answered.

Take control...... they only have as much control as YOU give them.

Hiding from them actually gives them more control. Actively confronting them and saying "No" takes your power back.

So I don't wanna be rude, but I definitely DON'T wanna talk about my feelings with him because I feel that it will lead to sumething ugly. I'm not ready to DA or be DF'd....

Any ideas on how i can avoid this "shepherding" hell?!?

"Thanks so much for your interest and for checking on me. I've checked my schedule and it turns out that I really don't have time free to meet with you or do another phone conversation during your visit. If I have interest in meeting in the future, I will let you know."

A fun trick is to call him and leave him that message during a meeting. That way, you know for a fact that he won't answer, and you can just leave the kiss-off on his phone. It also lets you say "Don't call me, I'll call you" in a less confrontational way.

Also, if he asks you about your psychological issues again, you can say something to the effect of, "You know, I'm working with a really great psychiatrist right now, and I feel like I'm getting all the help I need, but thanks for your concern!" He's not a health professional; don't inflate his ego by letting him think he is.

some helpful suggestions include the head of the household putting an agenda on the fridge door a few days ahead for the family to "build excitement and anticipation" (i kid you not.

) the provision is compared to the sabbath arrangement as a gift from god.
