Jamiel, beards pretty much died with Charles Russell. Rutherford banned the beard and even shaved Jesus and other men of the Bible for a time.

My Kingdom Hall Beard
by Amazing inin mid-1975: i grew a mustache while i was a ministerial servant (california bay area).
i recall being asked to conduct the book study while my hair was growing.
several acted odd toward me because there was still an ongoing argument about whether having such facial hair was appropriate for men of good example.

The next big change... my prediction
by No Apologies inwith all the talk about the new watchtower format, i thought i would throw out an idea i had recently, on how the tower could solve its current cash flow problem.. .
its very evident that they do have a serious problem with declining income, and that the real cause of this was the switch to the donation arrangement.
although at the time, it seemed like a smart move that would avoid the nightmare and expense of paying taxes, its clear to see that it has had an impact on the bottom line.

Well, they could avoid the property tax too with that type of arrangement by outsourcing the printing. "Kingdom Publishing Company" could just be an office only that coordinates the printing while legit printing companies do the actual printing. That way they could charge the JWs whatever price is needed, pay the sales tax and be done with the rest.

km arrangement?
by carla inexplain the km thing to me will you?
why do they withhold it from some?
i would think it would help those 'weak' ones get their butts out there more, no?

Let them keep their stupid Kingdom Ministry. It is just one less thing you have to read if you don't get one. Hopefully the same will be true of the new Watchtower arrangement. It will drive down meeting attendence if the irregular members don't get their copy.

Will the change to the Watchtower be followed by a change to the meetings?
by yaddayadda ini expect that a significant change to the meetings is on the horizon, most probably in the form of a shift of the bookstudy from a weeknight to a condensed saturday morning version.
some congregations already hold bookstudy groups on saturday mornings.
a universal change to this for the whole organisation make senses as it would help resolve a number of growing problems for the society, specifically, meeting attendance is clearly diminishing at the rate of knots in the western world, many elders are burning out and resigning because they cannot cope with all the pressure heaped up on them that so many meetings in no small measure contributes towards, and magazine 'sales' are apparently down and such a change would work in very well with the upcoming new change to the watchtower magazine in january 2008. .

I can't imagine a Saturday morning bookstudy working. Locally, the Kingdom Hall has tried and failed repeatedly to sustain a Saturday morning bookstudy. The second problem is with Kingdom Halls with more than one congregation in it. The Saturday morning bookstudy would become a Saturday afternoon bookstudy and the brothers secretly complain now about when it is their turn to have Sunday afternoon.
Everybody likes their weekends, including JWs.
