The strangest JW I have ever met was a man that never worked. His parents had money, so he lived at home with them. He never married. When they died, he got everything. Like me he was an only child. Now he is about 65 or so. Again, never had a job. Lives in one room of the house. (pretty good sized house too) He only heats and cools the kitchen. He sleeps on a cot. When he goes to the grocery store, he just buys sandwich stuff and milk. Also stocks up on any of the samples left out. He also drives an old car that is about to die on him. Did I forget to say all of his clothes are from the 70's.

3 meetings per week NOT FIVE!!!
by sawthelight inam i the only person ever to fall under the influence of the borg who can count?.
no offence all but jws meet three times per week.not five!
i consider the familiar statement about 5 meetings per week to be a good indication of just how indoctrinated a person is.

Dear Sawthelight,
To answer your question, yes. Certainly, bible studies left early, but so did baptised ones. And especially during the fall, because we wanted to watch Football. Everybody has their priorities!GO TENNESSEE TITANS !!!!!!!!!

Happily gone forever!
by Steve Josef ini was raised as a jw.
i do believe that what they call a religion is in fact, child abuse and mere brainwashing.
i have since left, but rements of this cult still haunt me today.

Hi Steve,
Almost 1 year ago, is when I finally quit going to the Kingdom Hall for good. Yes it is hard to find joy in holidays. It might happen in time. Do you have a signifigant (spelling?) other that was not a Jehovah's Witness? If you do, that might help. If you don't, when you do explain what happened to you, and ask them to be patient with you. I did, and my former girlfriend was very helpful. I agree the Society does cause mental abuse. Also, if you have any relatives, demand to be included in the various holidays they participate in. It may take some time, as I am finding out. But, independence day sure was fun a few days ago!

Hi Cam,
I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, well sort of. See my post for if you want to know what I mean. I can't tell you what to do regarding the Society. But I will tell you this. Recently I started going to the Central Christian Church. The pastor there gives talks strait from the bible, and it is not this is what the Society says. I swore off religion for about 10 months, it took me that long to cool off from my frustration. One day, I just had the urge to go to a church. My recomendation is pick a non denominational church, like the christian church. I agree it is easier to worship God with others around you. I think it is very good you want to go to an organized religion.
If you do become a baptised Witness, you are more or less stuck in it. Think long and hard about becoming a member! You can just never "walk away" they will send the Circuit Overseer over, and make you feel guilty for not going. Or if you ever wanted out after you join, the only way out is when they kick you out.
I don't know if any of my thoughts are what you are looking for, but I thought I should try to answer. Try posting this in the main board, you might get more responses. Then again, you might get too many bad ideas too.
Another thing to keep in mind, so many things the Society says are wrong. Please do your own independent research.

Hi sawthelight,
I guess you never have been to my Kingdom Hall. Several people leave after the public talk on Sunday. Including myself, when I went! Also, many times I left the Thursday meeting at half-time too. It was getting late, and I want to go to bed before 11:00. Now I know that meeting is supposed to end by 9:20, but by the time I got home and could calm down enough to sleep it was 11:00. So, for myself, there was only 3 meetings, if I went at all!

Hi one and all,
I wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome yesterday when I first posted. You made me feel very welcome! It is nice to know that I am not alone in my struggle to become a normal, thinking person. Instead of a person influenced by a cult. I am quickly making friends here and in life outside of the Kingdom Hall. It is great to know that people in general are not as bad as the Society make them out to be.

advice needed--please respond
by lisaBObeesa inthis is a question my df mother would like me to post for her:.
would it be morally right to go back to the jws, even though she doesn't feel it is god's org?
she would do this in order to speak with her life long friends and her youngest daughter, all of whom are quite emotionally distraught due to her dfing.

Just some more thoughts about your question. Sure, you could go back, but if you are not an active witness, (that is go out in service) her friends might not think of her as being strong in the truth. My experience has been, if you are not in service there is something wrong with you. Maybe you will have a different result, after all not every congregation is the same. But some might want to know why she does not go out in service. If that is ever brought up, she better have a good reason. I can't think of a good reason at the moment. Good luck with it.

Hi Tracy,
I just wanted to say thanks for the kind words.
Although time is relative, because I am young (25) I
feel like I wasted 20% of my live. (5 years) But at
least I got out before I had kids and subjected them
to the same pain I grew up with. I also studied for 4
years with them. But if you want to get technical, I
was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Only last winter
did I celebrate my birthday for the first time. I
will continue to look for your posts, and thanks for
considering my a friend.

That is a question I struggle with sometimes. I did have a few (very few) friends in the society. My only issues of why not to is:
1. You have to pretend to be with them. Easier said than done, I tried to do just that for my dad.
2. You will have to go out in door to door work. Again, easier said than done, especially if you know it is not the whole truth like the Society preaches.
3. If you meet somebody at the door that is receptive, you will have to teach what you know to not be the whole truth.
I am not sure this will help you out, but because of these reasons I am never going back. I just can't bring myself to pretend. I would be lying to myself. -

How do the anointed know they are?
by jayhawk1 ini have a question that no elder has given me a good explanation on.
how do the anointed jehovah's witnesses become that way.
i heard that somehow their spirit is born along with the holy spirit.
